【G8 Field Trip】体味水族文化,寻找“义”的意义 | I-EP中学(IB认证)

In Analects of Confucius, it said, "It is cowardice to see what is right and not to do it." As the IB students with international vision, what kind of things should we do and how should we use fraternity as our strength to stick to the justice when facing the difficulties? In order to expand students' horizons and teamwork skills in practical, from October 18 to 21, 2023, I-EP G8 students went to Sandu Shui Autonomous County, Guizhou Province to conduct an field trip to look for the meaning of "Yi" through the carrier of Shui culture.


子曰:“见义不为,无勇也。”见到应该去做的事情而不去做,这是怯懦的表现。作为拥有国际视野、心怀天下的IB学子,我们应对什么样的事情前仆后继?面对困难,我们又该如何以博爱为力量,将心中的正义坚持到底呢?实践出真知,为了全面开拓学生视野,发展学生团队合作的能力,2023年10月18日至21日,I-EP八年级学子们踏上了前往贵州三都水族自治县的旅程,开展户外探究学习,以水族文化为载体,寻找“义”的意义。





 高硐村

 Gaodong Village 

# 我的双眼里是满眸的绿 #


After a morning of traveling, we have first arrived at Gaodong Village in Duyun, Guizhou. After putting down our luggage, we were already in an ethnic minority village far away from the bustling city, surrounded by mountains, rivers and reeds. Led by local guides and villagers, the students went into the fields to experience the joy of catching fish with their bare hands and picking fresh vegetables. On the untouched field paths, we learned how to identify edible vegetables, pick the ingredients we need for our own dinner by touching every inch of soil and asking for the local farmers.

经过了一上午旅途的奔波,我们首先到达了位于贵州都匀市的高硐村。放下行李,我们已然来到了远离繁华都市,被群山,河流和芦苇包裹着的少数民族村落。同学们在当地向导和村民的带领下走入田间体验徒手抓鱼的快乐,感受采摘新鲜蔬菜的喜悦。未经任何修饰的田间小路上,我们通过每一次呼吸,接触每一寸土壤,感受大自然的魅力,蹲在田间地头向当地农民了解如何识别可以吃的蔬菜,亲手采摘自己晚饭需要的食材…



“My eyes are full of green", every piece of land is untouched and thriving. This vibrant beauty triggers the children's most instinctive respect and love for nature and life. "Teacher, we found a frog!" The children were pleasantly surprised, taking care of the little life in their hands and carefully releasing them into the field. "Let's be careful, not to step on the vegetables!" The children reminded each other, patiently picked the fruits, and cherished all the gifts from nature with practical actions. Being gratitude to nature, the villagers of Gao Dong's, who live in harmony with nature, infected us, and made us realize that even if we live in the busy city for a long time, we still have the "Yi" of respecting nature.

“我的双眼里,是满眸的绿”,每一片土地都是未经雕琢而欣欣向荣的,这种生机盎然的美触发了孩子们对自然、对生命最本能的敬意和爱意。“老师,我们挖到了一只青蛙!”孩子们惊喜着,万分呵护着手中的小生命,小心翼翼的把它们放归田野。“我们小心点别把菜踩坏了!”孩子们互相提醒着,耐心地采摘村民们的劳动成果,用实际行动珍爱大自然给我们的一切馈赠。敬畏自然,感恩自然,高硐村民与自然和谐相处的博爱感染了我们,也让我们明白哪怕久居繁华闹市,作为大自然的孩子,我们依旧有尊重自然之“义”。




 水族文化博物馆

 The Shui Culture Museum

琢大爱于岩壁,书愤懑于沙滩 #


On the second day, the students went to the local Shui Culture Museum. Together with the curator, we learned about the traditional culture of the Shui. In the museum, we also learned about the very great sacrifices made by the people of the Shui nationality for the birth of new China. Teng Jushou was a famous local anti-Japanese hero, knowing that he would never return, he still met the battle calmly and spilled his blood for the tomorrow of the motherland, and his spirit is worthy of our admiration.

第二天,同学们来到了当地的水族文化博物馆。跟馆长一起了解水族传统文化。在博物馆中,我们还了解到水族人民为新中国的诞生所做出的伟大牺牲。滕久寿是当地著名的抗日英雄,明知一去不回,依旧从容迎战,为了祖国的明天抛头颅、洒热血,他的精神值得我们敬仰。



After that, we went to the Sandu County Shui Non-heritage Project Experience Center. Under the guidance of the expert of the Shui Words Association. All our G8 students write down the Shui words together with Chinese brushes that have been passed down for thousands of years on the paper, and felt the power of the Chinese traditional culture. Horsetail embroidery is also a traditional non-heritage project of the Shui, in which the Shui people use various colorful threads to embroider the horsetail hair into exquisite three-dimensional patterns. The students were so focused on their Shui writing and horsetail embroidery that they exceeded the expected time without realizing it.


Feeling the splendid Shui culture, the children also recalled the glorious days in the past, as well as evoked the great love for the motherland and the excellent national cultureleaving the national righteousness in their hearts.

之后,我们来到了三都县水族非遗项目体验中心,在水书协会专家老师的带领下,同学们一起在宣纸上挥毫,写下流传千年的水书,感受来自中国传统文化的力量。马尾绣也是水族的一项传统非遗项目,水族人民用彩色的线将马尾毛绣成精美立体的图案。学生们专注地进行自己的水书和马尾绣作品创作,不知不觉竟超出了预期的时间。


孩子们感受着灿烂的水族文化,也回忆着往昔峥嵘岁月,将对祖国和优秀民族文化的大爱镌刻于心灵的岩壁上,把生活中的愤懑气馁书写在心海的沙滩里,让烦恼消散于天际,留民族大义于心间。




 高平凤凰实验学校

 Gaoping Phoenix Experimental School

天行健,君子以自强不息 #


In the afternoon, the I-EP G8 students went to the Gao Ping Phoenix Experimental School for a friendly exchange. As soon as we got off the bus, Gaoping’s students lined up to greet uswearing beautiful traditional costumes of the Shui and presented us with a warm and joyful dance. They ran to us with sincere and expectant faces, and pulled us to dance with them. At this moment, the hospitality of the Shui people made us fully believe in the power of sincerity, which can easily melt all barriers and indifference.

下午,I-EP八年级的同学们来到了高平凤凰实验学校进行友好的交流。一下车,高平实验学校的中学生们排着整齐的队形,穿着美丽的水族传统服饰,给我们献上了热烈欢快的传统舞蹈。他们无论男女,都一脸真诚和期待地奔向我们,拉起我们跟他们一起跳舞。此时此刻,水族人民的好客和赤诚让我们充分相信了真诚的力量,它能够轻易地融化一切隔阂和冷漠。



Afterwards, I-EP Boys' Basketball Team also played a friendly basketball game with the students of the Phoenix Experimental school. Our students felt the strong physique and fighting spirit of the young people of the Shui, and this fierce basketball game also pushed the atmosphere of this communication to the climax.

随后,I-EP男子篮球队还跟学校的同学们进行了一场友谊篮球赛,同学们感受到了水族少年的强健体魄和拼搏精神,这场激烈的篮球赛也把本次交流的氛围推向了高潮。



After a good game, we divided into two groups and went into two classes of this local school to have communication with them about English learning, bringing them two interesting English games.


During the whole day activity with them, we learned that a large part of the students inside the school are left-behind children, but they still maintain the greatest enthusiasm for all people and are full of enthusiasm for learning, and we were deeply infected by their positive attitude toward life. As future international citizens with a global perspective, I-EP students deeply felt the value of knowledge and the significance of progress through this trip. It is the duty of I-EP students to be disciplined and to care for the world.

经历了酣畅淋漓的比赛后,我们分为两组进入到凤凰实验学校的两个班级进行英文交流,给他们带来了两个有趣的英文小游戏。


在这一天的接触中,我们了解到,这学校里面很大一部分学生都是留守儿童,但他们依旧对所有人保持最大的热情,对学习充满了热忱,我们被他们内心的积极力量所深深感染。天行健,君子以自强不息。作为未来具有全球视野的国际公民,I-EP学子通过此行深刻感受到知识的宝贵和奋进的意义。严于律己,心怀天下,这是I-EP学子义不容辞之职。




 端节

 Duan Fesitival

有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎 #


In the Analects of Confucius, it says: "It is a great pleasure for us to have friends from a far". Hospitality has always been a crucial part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and the the Shui people, who are known for their hospitality, show their warmth even more in their biggest festival, the Duan Festival.


In order to feel the truest atmosphere of the Duan Festival, we walked close to 40 minutes all the way to the depths of the mountains to visit the villagers of the ShuiThe sincere warmth of the Shui people treat their guests made us realize that people can be so sincere and close to each other.

子曰:“有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎”。待客之道,素来是中华优秀传统文化中浓墨重彩的一笔,而以热情好客著称的水族同胞更是将宾至如归在他们最大的节日——端节中展现得淋漓尽致。


为了感受最真实的端节氛围,第三天,我们步行接近40分钟,一路走向大山深处,去探访水族村民。水族人民对待客人最诚挚的热情让我们意识到人与人之间是可以如此真诚和亲密的。



"Teacher, is there any chance we could go to the shop? It's not good for us to go to the host's house with empty-handed." In the presence of sincerity, the children were also doing what they could do to give back to the the villagers. Accompanied by our local guide, we have brought some necessities to the host family as their thank you gift, and then we have all settled down for a wonderful festival feast at the villagers' home.

“老师,我们有没有机会去一下超市?毕竟我们去主人家,空着手不太好吧。”将心比心,投我以木桃,报之以琼瑶,在真诚面前,孩子们也在尽自己所能回馈热情的村民们。在当地向导的陪伴下,我们给主人家带去了一些生活必需品作为谢礼,然后便齐齐落座,在村民家中吃了一顿丰盛的节日盛宴。





Afterwards, the students divided into groups and went to the Duan Festival Market with the teachers to experience the unique charm of horse racing and local theater. Art and sports come from people's lives. When we saw the working people in the fields expressing their joy for the harvest, their gratitude to nature and their love for life in the most simple way, we realized that the beauty and happiness are actually all around us. The process of exploration is the process of discovering beauty, being grateful for beauty and nourishing beauty.

随后,同学们分成小组跟老师们一起前往端节集市,感受赛马和当地戏剧的独特魅力。艺术和体育来自于人民的生活,当我们看到田间地头的劳动人民用最朴素的方式表达着自己对丰收的喜悦,对大自然的感恩,对生活的热爱,顿觉其实美和快乐就在我们的身边。而探究的过程,就是发现美,感恩美,滋养美的过程。




学生感想Sharing 

A few days ago, when I was leaving the Gaodong village , I saw two old women and went over to talk to them. These two old women said: "Guy, please remember to bring all your things, don't leave anything behind, or else we will miss you! Looking at their wrinkled but smiling faces, Iwasreally touched by the concern of these two unfamiliar people, which made me feel that the people here are really kind and gentle, and they gave us all their love. There is no doubt that this trip was not in vain.

This trip to Guizhou has taught me a lot about the culture of the Shui nationality, such as the Shui words, the Shui festivals, the  Shui food and so on. These things have given me a new perception of the world. Although we have different cultures, we don't speak the same language, and we never met each other before, I don't think that can stop us from becoming a big family. As long as we love each other and help each other, we can helpour world become more harmonious and warmer. Because ofit, in the future, Iwant to know more about the cultures of different people and countries.

As we know, the Shui nationality is a very special group among the minorities we know. It has its own words, its own language and its own festivals. When I left Gaodong Village, I saw a wall full of Shui words, which can be described as paintings, and each word describes an object in a vivid way. In the afternoon class, I have learnt that Shui word is pictogram. For example, in Shui word, the word of "man" was written as a sketch of a small person. Therefore, I thinkShui word is a great invention, which symbolizes the distinctive national culture.

The first night in Sandu, Guizhou impressed me the most. At six o'clock in the evening, after we finished the long table feast, it was getting late and the temperature was dropping. The local people lit a huge bonfire for us. This bonfire not only warmed our bodies, but also warmed our hearts. We all held hands in a circle around the bonfire, runing around, and there was a lot of laughter everywhere, along withall our worries disappeared at that moment.

几天前,在我离开高峒村时,我看到了两位奶奶,便过去攀谈。这两位奶奶对我说了几句话,她们说:“小朋友,记得要带好东西啊,不要落下东西了,不然到时候,奶奶就想你们咯!”我当时看着她们满是皱纹却布满笑容的脸,觉得被这两个陌生人关心着真的很感动。奶奶们的话让我体会到这里的人实在是太淳朴善良了,他们给予了我们许多的善意。让我觉得这一趟没有白来。

这次的贵州之旅让我了解到各种各样的水族文化,比如说水书;水族的节日;水族的美食等等。这些东西让我对这个世界有了新的认知。即使我们文化不同,语言不通,互不认识,但我认为这不能阻挡我们成为一个大家庭。只要我们相亲相爱,互帮互助,就能让这个世界变得更加和谐,更加温暖。而正因为这些,让我更加想去了解不同民族以及不同国家的文化。

水族在我们熟知的少数民族中是一个非常特别的民族,它拥有自己的文字、自己的语言和自己的节日。离开高峒村时,我看到了写满水书的墙,这面墙上的字可以说是画,每一个字都活灵活现地描述着某个物体。而在下午的课上,我知道了水书就是象形文字,比如说:水书的“人”字就是一个简笔画的小人。因此,我认为,水书是一个伟大的发明,它象征了别具特色的民族文化

来到贵州三都的第一晚令我印象最深刻。傍晚六点钟,在我们吃完长桌宴后,天色渐晚,温度也骤降,水族人民为我们点上了巨大的篝火。这篝火不仅温暖了我们的身体,更是温暖了我们的心。我们整个八年级围着篝火,手拉手围住了一个圈,奔跑着,到处都是一片欢声,感觉所有的烦恼在那一刻都通通消失了。

To travel a thousand miles is better than to read a thousand books;To see a thousand people is better than to travel a thousand miles. Field trip has always been a crucial part of I-EP's inquiry-based teaching, and it plays a pivotal role in the children's educational journey of self-growth. The field trip to Guizhou with the theme of "Yi" allowed the children to experience different environments and people, and to feel that "It is cowardice to see what is right and not to do it", so that they could grow up to be principled and courageous. Wish all the student can be the Yi person in the future.


读万卷书,不如行万里路;行万里路,不如阅人无数。外出探究一直是I-EP探究式教学中至关重要的一个环节,它在孩子们自我成长于服务社会的教育旅程中占有举足轻重的位置。此次以“义”为主题的贵州探究之行,让孩子们亲身经历不同的环境和不同的人,感受“见义不为,无勇也”,从而生长出坚持原则,勇于挑战的勇气。愿他们,踏实成长,眺望未来为天地立心,为生民立命,为往圣继绝学,为万世开太平。
