The summer of 2023 is a very special summer for me. Over the last four years, traveling to other countries was very difficult to do because of the pandemic. This year there would be no restrictions, and I would finally be able to visit my family again. Not only that, I would be introducing them to my fiancé, Claire, who I met in early 2019. This would be a big deal for her too because it would be her first time visiting Europe.

如果你打算去欧洲旅游，就要做好长途飞机旅行的准备。我们从广州飞到葡萄牙首都里斯本花了18个小时。你可以在飞机上看电影来打发时间，但我也建议你带一本书或一些音乐，因为即使是电影在18小时后也会变得无聊。

If you ever plan to visit Europe, be prepared for a long airplane ride. It took us 18 hours to fly from Guangzhou to Lisbon, which is the capital of Portugal. You can watch movies on the plane to help pass the time, but I would also suggest bringing a book or some music because even movies get boring after 18 hours.

We made it through the plane ride and Claire was able to meet my grandparents, parents, aunt, uncle and many, many cousins. Portuguese people love to socialize. They love talking to old friends, new friends, strangers, and they really love meeting people for the first time. I am more introverted, but Claire is a social butterfly, so they got along great.

In Portugal there are many medieval castles and forts to visit. We went to see a couple of these, and they were interesting, but the best thing to do is go to the beach. Most of Portugal is located next to the beach and in the summer the weather is hot and sunny almost every day so it’s a great place to go to cool down or relax in the sun. We also spent a lot of time on the beach, often just walking and enjoying the view.

When it comes to food, the Portuguese get a lot of their food from the ocean. They eat a lot of fish, octopus, squid, clams, and much much more. My favorite is something called goose neck barnacles. If you haven’t seen them before, they might look like something from an alien planet, but they are quite delicious.

For dessert, they like to eat pastries. They have so many different varieties of pastries. They have some with icing, some with custard, some with chocolate, and so much more. If you like the Macau egg tart, you would love Portuguese desserts. Did you know that it’s based off a Portuguese pastry called Nata. It is the most loved pastry in Portugal, and we ate many while we were there.

If Portugal sounds like a country you would like to visit but you are worried because you don’t speak Portuguese well don’t worry. Most people in Portugal speak English and Spanish too. If you went to a restaurant or store in Portugal, you could expect someone to speak English. We loved our stay in Portugal, and I think you would too.

Scandinavia is cold, snowy, and dark during the winter, which is not everyone's cup of tea, but it is the complete opposite in summer!Scandinavia, especially Sweden, is a great place to visit in the summers because of its long hours of daylight and mildly warm weather. The Swedes take advantage of the bright summer months by making up for all they can’t do during the cold winters. This includes outdoor activities like kayaking, touring historic sights, and having fun at theme parks.

Karlshamn  is a charming coastal town, located  in south Sweden, with cozy cobbled  streets  and   beautiful  cultural  district, wonderful nature and archipelago closeby. And “Ostersjo festivalen” (Baltic Festival).

Ostersjo Festivalen (Baltic Festival) always in week 29.the archipelago town of Karlshamn shows its charm and invites the city to a folk festival in colossal format – Karlshamn Baltic  Festival, The Baltic Festival.

In recent years, nearly a quarter of a million visitors have invaded Karlshamn’s streets and squares during the festival days in July and the festival belongs to one of the largest free festivals in Sweden!

At the festival, you will find serving tents, trubarer, jazz band, samba orchestras and carnival trains. In the Baltic Song Contest, The Baltic Sea's Own Music Festival, The Baltic Sea Festival has everything you could wish for and a little more!
