Lead the future
with splendid history
Harrow School, located in northwest London, was founded in 1572 under a Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I. As stewards of many cherished traditions, today’s Harrovians follow in the footsteps of The Giants of Old, united by strength of character, lasting friendships, and the desire to be of good influence.
For a prestigious school that is closely related to the future of countless students, celebrating its 450th anniversary is of great significance. Harrow 450 Music Week was planned to to pay tribute to Harrow's glorious history in the hope that this honour will continue to inspire us in the future.
During Harrow 450 Music Week, students, parents, and teachers played a wide range of musical instruments and provided various performances, including pop songs, classical music, combined bands, operas, and folk dance performances. The unexpectedly wonderful performances drew continuous cheers from the audience.

Parent-child performance
The "Mothers of Founding Students" brought us the colourful ring dance of the Li nationality with Hainan characteristics. Since the establishment of the school, they have learned from and encouraged each other. The tacit understanding allowed these parents with zero dance foundation to present such a high-quality performance after rehearsal in just two weeks.
The 450th anniversary of Harrow has a special meaning for us. We have witnessed the growth of the school all the way, so we love and trust the school even more. We are grateful for this opportunity to perform on the stage. None of us has learned to dance, but we have the confidence and courage to stand on the stage as we want to set an example for our children and be lifelong learners.

I came back from Sanya just for my child's wish and she wanted to sing When You Are Old with me. She is still in kindergarten now and doesn't understand the meaning of the lyrics. But I was very moved, and I am also very grateful to the school for this activity, which gave us an unforgettable memory.

Celebrating the 450th anniversary with the school is interesting and meaningful. I chose the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star which is familiar to children. I hope our performance would create a great atmosphere of celebration.

Performances from our teachers
We also saw many familiar faces at this concert. The teachers who teach and solve puzzles in the classroom are also versatile performers. On stage, they are lead singers, guitarists, and performers, bringing us surprise performances.

Afterwards, the Upper School Chamber Ensemble and the Boarding Band brought a song I am standing with you to ignite the joyful atmosphere of campus life on Friday.
Sing loudly, dance freely and dream always
I am extremely impressed by the talent and skill set of our students, staff and the parental community. I watched our youngest Little Lions perform with their parents and the confidence, courage and fellowship witnessed on the stage was heartwarming and enjoyable to watch.
Music is a big part of the Harrow community, and to our sister school, Harrow London, were the community sing with gusto and purpose. Music is an important aspect of human culture regardless of race, creed or culture. All over the world music unites us. I have fond memories of a concert held in the USA during world lockdown, where my family and I watch musicians sing songs to bring joy to the nation. It lifted our spirts and our minds, so that we could continue to have hope in a time that felt hopeless. In my family music is paramount. We sing, we dance, and we reflect on time gone past. For our students, I hope that the music celebration week has done the same for them. My favorite saying is ‘sing loudly, dance freely and dream always’.
My wish for the 450 Anniversary is that everyone, regardless of vocal talent or confidence, can find a song that they want to sing and to sing it loudly and with pride. The united effort of all Harrow Schools contributing to the anniversary should be heard around the world with happiness, hope and love.

Headmistress
Abundant musical events across the world bring the Harrow community together during the 450th-anniversary celebrations.
In our Harrow Haikou school, the whole week is marked by centuries of musical tradition and excellence, combined with modern styles and various contributions of people who make this marvellous community today.
It makes me buoyant to see students, their parents and teachers united in celebrating this special occasion! Every day of this week is coloured by rhythms and melodies from various cultures, genres and historical periods. Young and old, hand in hand, are connected through music in these glorious moments.
Our fellowship shines with every stroke of the drumsticks and every pluck of the strings. We sing in harmony, blending voices together. We are Harrow. We are one.
This reminds me that we have come a long way, and the work of each one of us has continued to encourage young generations. May the united Harrow family continue to inspire us for many years to come!

In the process of communicating with parents and students about the performance, the two things that impressed me the most were the parents' deep love for their children and their support for the school. Some parents organized and rehearsed spontaneously, and some even learned piano and dance for their children's wishes. Our children are brave, and their parents are even braver! Many thanks to the parents for their efforts, and we look forward to the next anniversary!

Harrow 450 Music Week is not just a celebration, it's a challenge for us all. We are very grateful to everyone for their wonderful performances. Thank you for your support! May the Harrow family inherit the Harrow spirit of the 450th anniversary and cultivate the next generation with leadership in the new era.
Junchi Deng,
Upper School Bilingual Music Teacher
I am very happy to prepare a performance for the school celebration with a group of music-loving students, which makes us feel joyful and rewarded. Our team members have varying levels of musicality. But during the one-month rehearsal time, Students with higher levels will guide us for the overall performance of the team. The students who are not so good at music also practised more diligently. We had a great time working together and Harrow 450 Music Week was great!

It is really beneficial for students and staff to experience musical performance in shared environment like the assembly or the mini performances in the public spaces around the school. And also It's fun and is a great way for students and staff to share their interests in music.
Music week is an ideal way to bring into focus the skills and abilities of students who have been learning their instruments throughout the year. It give them a focus for performance which for me is one of the most key learning opportunities for students.
It is an opportunity for students and staff to play together on one grand song performance. it would look and sound amazing.
