The Hippo English Olympiad is a global competition for non-native speakers of English. More than 50 countries around the world participated in the 2023 Hippo Olympiad. The Olympiad has 3 rounds; Preliminary Round, Semi-final Round, and Global Finals.

Hippo（河马）英语奥林匹克竞赛是一项面向母语非英语学生的全球性竞赛。世界上有50多个国家参加了2023年的Hippo奥林匹克竞赛。奥林匹克竞赛有3轮；预赛、半决赛和全球总决赛。

The Olympiad is organized into several categories G1 – G3 Little Hippo, G4 – G5 Hippo 1, G6 Hippo 2, G7 – G8 Hippo 3, G9 – 10 Hippo 4, and G11 – G12 Hippo 5. 

奥林匹克竞赛分为几个等级：小学1-3年级的Little Hippo、小学4，5年级的Hippo 1、 6年级的Hippo 2、 7, 8年级的Hippo 3、9, 10年级的Hippo 4、以及11,12年级的Hippo 5。

The Preliminary Round was held at CISH on Saturday, April 22nd. 32 CISH students participated in the Olympiad; 15 PYP students (G3 – G5) and 17 MYP students (G6 – G10). Test content consisted of multiple-choice reading comprehension and language usage questions. 

预赛于4月22日星期六在CISH举行。32名CISH学生参加了竞赛，其中包括了15名PYP学生（G3–G5）和17名MYP学生（G6–G10）。测试内容包括阅读理解和语言运用问题。

All participants received a certificate of participation. In addition, certificates were awarded for Excellence Award (top 40% – 60%), Third Prize (top 25% – 40%), Second Prize (top 10% – 25%), and First Prize (top 10%). Please see the sample of the certificate below.

所有的参赛者都获得了参赛证书。此外，还将颁发优秀奖（前40%-60%）、三等奖（前25%-40%）、二等奖（前10%-25%）、一等奖（前10%）证书 (证书样本请参考下图)。

The Semi-Final Round was held at CISH on Saturday, May 20th. All 20 Preliminary Round First Prize recipients participated. Like the Preliminary Round, test content consisted of multiple-choice reading comprehension and language usage questions – and, in addition, short answer writing and a short essay response were added.

半决赛于5月20日星期六在CISH举办，初赛 20 名一等奖获得者都参加了比赛。与预赛一样，测试内容包括阅读理解和语言运用题，此外还增加了简答题和写作。

Similar to the Preliminary Round, certificates were awarded – except instead of First Prize, Second Prize, and Third Prize – titles were changed to Gold Medal Award (top 20%), Silver Medal Award (top 20% - 40%), and Bronze Medal Award (top 40% - 60%). Also, the extremely prestigious Global Honor Award was available to the top 120 students around the world and the opportunity to advance to the Final Round in Rome, Italy!

与预赛类似，参赛者有机会获得金牌奖（前20%）、银牌奖（前20%-40%）和铜奖（前40%-60%）证书。此外，最高级别的全球奖将授予世界排名前120的学生，他们能晋级意大利罗马的决赛！

5 students received Gold Medal Awards， 6 students earned Silver Medal Awards and 8 students received Bronze Medal Awards!
