Ms Bateman

Mrs Kirk

Mr Noronha

Mr Hobourn

Mrs Chapman

Letter from the Headteacher

Mrs Jane Arden

Headteacher

Dear LEHF Parents and Students,

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

As an international community we promote that it is important to learn about other cultures and their traditions. Maya Angelou, one of my favourite writers wrote, “perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.”

As we get older and our education moves out of the classroom, we come to appreciate that we learn in life, some experiences are good, some are okay, and some are downright painful!

When I am considering whether I wish to embark on something new, I think of what Mark Twain wrote. He said “in twenty years’ time you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones that you did’.

I hope you find the opportunities to travel, either with family or alone.

The concept of travel is used as a metaphor to describe the emotional and spiritual journey that we call life. Buddhism reminds us that every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most. Be where you are; otherwise, you will miss your life. “What you are is what you have been. What you will be is what you do now.” “It is better to travel well than to arrive.” This message is telling us to enjoy the moment, as we cannot travel back in time, and we cannot always predict the future.

Have a wonderful summer, travel to see and do what you love. Enjoy every day for what it is and remember to love and to be loved is all that really matters.

Best regards,

Mrs Jane Arden

Prep School

Letter

from Ms Bateman

Hello LEHF Parents,

This 2022/23 school year has come to an end! During our first ever year as a Prep School, as we look back over our highlights, it is with fond memories of laughter, fun, achievement, and the new friends we now have. Having our 8C’s as our core values to define and guide us we have seen amazing Academic, Sporting, Musical, Acting, and Artistic accomplishments in abundance in our founding year, congratulations everyone.

I am sure you will all agree that all our terms have been happy, busy and purposeful here in Prep School. The last few weeks of term have been no exception to this, we have seen the Art exhibition, Summer Concert, Residential Trip, Piano Master Class, and Dragon Boat Racing, alongside Dress Like a Celebrity and our finale, Prize Day afternoon and morning celebration.

Ending the academic year as we started it, with an educational residential trip for the students was extremely tiring for everyone, but worth every minute. I am sure that you have seen from the photographs everyone had an amazing time and they all learned so much.

As I reflect on our first-ever year, it is with immense pride. The Prep School staff and students have achieved so much within such a short space of time, as you look around you see vibrant classrooms, outdoor creative spaces for learning and playing, a Prep School that is flourishing, and the most important thing happy, busy, and purposeful students. I would like to thank everyone involved in the Prep Schools start-up journey. I wish everyone a happy and safe summer holiday, and I look forward to welcoming back all our old students and helping new students settle into our ever-growing family.

Maths

Mrs Kirk

Year 7 were studying at the Monty Hall Problem. They were given the challenge through experimentation and some interesting results gathered to enable the group to make their own conclusions.

Year 7 have finished the year by using construction methods to make bisectors and draw accurate diagrams using a compass. After practising they could then start to make a beautiful mystic rose diagram.

School Council

Mr Noronha

Monday 26th was a successful non-uniform day. Students, and some staff, from across the school were dressed like their favourite celebrity. Some of the outfits were extremely creative and it was a worthy event.

Piano Masterclass

Mr Hobourn

On Monday 26th June, we had our first Piano Masterclass at school. All the students benefitted hugely from Ms An Na's expertise and professionalism. The important technical aspects of playing the piano, namely pedalling, touch control, balance of hands and tone, and rhythmic accuracy were all brought across to the students with Ms An Na's easy-going charm and encouragement. She shared with all the students the importance of understanding musical character and communication, and an awareness of the composers' stylistic intentions

Next term, we will welcome another fine pianist from Hong Kong, Ms Jacqueline Leung, to come and lead a masterclass and perform a solo piano concert.

Dragon Boat Race

Shakespeare Week

Mrs Chapman

Students, families and staff gathered together on Tuesday for a Shakespearean journey into strange, comedic, beautiful and heartbreaking places, as LEHF students explored some of William Shakespeare’s most famous and loved scenes and characters for Shakespeare Week.
