以院舍之名,用镜头诠释我们的Fellowship

在现实世界中,电影制作(Filmmaking)

是一个庞大复杂、专业化程度很高的技术活,

导演、编剧、表演、剪辑、音乐…

电影制作过程中多方人才和专业知识汇集融合,

把创意构想转化为引人入胜的电影体验



那么在校园生活里,

孩子们创作的电影是什么样的呢?

没有丰富的从业经验、

专业的设备支持或精湛的制作技术,

他们最终如何完成一部电影的制作,

如何打动人心、震撼所有观众呢?


让我们一起来看看今年哈罗珠海举行的首届

院舍电影比赛

每个院舍都由学生主导完成一部微电影制作

孩子们第一次完全自主创作剧本、

组织拍摄和后期剪辑

这些电影成品的成功诞生,

正是本次比赛主题“互助”的绝佳印证和呈现!





哈罗珠海院舍电影比赛



由各院舍学生主导,各院舍都有5周的时间来制作。每位同学都必须参与到电影的拍摄工作中。


主题


Fellowship 互助


角色分工


由学生自行承担编剧、演员、导演、特效、拍摄/摄像组、视频剪辑、音效/音乐技术员、片头片尾和字幕设计等角色。


作品要求


时长3-4分钟的原创故事,作品语言必须为中英双语,片中须包括至少一个展示所有院舍成员的场景。






尽管是学生制作的电影,该有的角色、该统筹的分工一个都不少,评委们打分更是综合剧本、表演、拍摄、剪辑、音效、道具和全院舍参与度等维度。评选现场还请到了电影行业资深前辈陶然先生,他不仅作为评委参与评选,还为大家带来了一节生动的电影制作与鉴赏入门讲座。

经过展播评选,最终丘吉尔院舍、安德森院舍孙中山院舍获得了第一届哈罗珠海院舍电影比赛的前三甲!每个院舍的优秀作品风格迥异,各有特色,一起看看获胜院舍的作品吧!



丘吉尔院舍



丘吉尔院舍的电影讲述了一个温暖的故事,一名内向羞涩的女孩刚加入丘吉尔院舍大家庭,由于不善言辞,一度被误认为是“哑巴”,于是大家专门学习手语与她交流,而女孩在感动不已的同时终于敞开心扉,积极融入集体。

编剧

在刚接到“互助”这个主题时,我是迷茫的,互助一词对于我们并不陌生,而真的让我用电影去解释友谊的定义时,却一时间没有头绪。

这时一篇散文——《友情这东西》,给予了我灵感,在这篇文章中,作者解释了何为友谊,其中的一句“朋友就像是你生命中的一盏灯,在你最需要温暖的时候给你送来温暖,朋友就像你的精神支柱,在你最颓废的时候给你勇气”让我想到,友谊,是双向的付出,在黑暗中点起的明灯,在需要帮助时伸出的一双援手。

于是我描写了一位身陷迷雾中,被误解不会说话,怯懦内向的女孩,在现实中,这种不愿表达,拥有“特殊情况”的人往往被人忽略,无法得到帮助,但幸运的是,这位女孩加入了一个温暖的集体,同学们并没有因为她的封闭而摆出“事不关己”的姿态,而是每个人都用自己的方式去帮助,温暖她,正是因为每个人的努力,才创造出了这个团结,互助的集体。


值得一提的是,为了这次拍摄,丘吉尔院舍全员师生们是真的学习了手语哦!视频里的手势正是英国手语(British Sign Language),意思是:



You and me. Friends together,

 friends forever.

安德森院舍



比起其他院舍作品,安德森院舍的电影可谓脑洞大开!这是一个关于拯救集体的故事,在怪物入侵下,安德森院舍陷入了存亡危机,大家必须合力解开一关又一关的难题,找到拯救院舍的正确咒语,才能让安德森院舍全员安全。你能猜出来那个“咒语”是什么词吗?

孙中山院舍


孙中山院舍的电影走的是校园日常纪实风格,用3个不同情节的小短片,从不同的角度切入诠释“互助”的精神,第一个故事讲述了新加入的同学身患特殊疾病,最终误会解开与大伙儿达成一片;第二个故事讲述一位擅长弹钢琴的女孩,当她的闪光点被大家发现和欣赏,她也获得了融入集体的自信;第三个故事讲述激烈的跑步比赛中,一位选手不慎摔倒,另一位选手选择了停下关怀帮助他。

看了以上电影作品,

你是否也有那么一瞬间受到了触动,

是否也好奇这种打动人心的力量从何而来呢?



院舍电影的创作过程,是第一次让学生担任组织者去牵头完成项目,而老师则退居一旁,提供充分支持的同时尽量不干涉其中。在这样的尝试下,大家爆发了强大的院舍凝聚力、无拘无束的创造力自主学习热情团队协作能力,让老师们倍感惊喜。






而电影作品也因此呈现出了稚嫩而热烈的真情,和原始的情感表达,提醒了我们,电影的魔力不仅仅在于精湛的技术,更在于无拘无束的创造力和奔放的激情。

我们看着高年级学生一遍一遍打磨剧本,不断地和低年级的学生沟通表演,看着大家凑在一起激烈讨论拍摄手法,光线角度的设计…我们看着他们去犯错,去推翻,去拍摄一些成年人眼中不那么完美的镜头,却必须控制自己,不去过多干涉他们的灵感与创作,将成长的过程完整的留给孩子。每一部电影都不完美,但是它们代表的是孩子对这个世界的探索和理解,而不是我们思维定式里觉得好的东西。不完美,也许才最美。


院舍电影是一次全新的尝试,也是院舍活力的又一次集中体现。新的学年,哈罗珠海将继续探索和创新活动与学习项目,让院舍制的生命力更加充分绽放,让孩子们通过独特的院舍体系,真正发展领导力特质和对学习、生活的热情。

In the real world, filmmaking

is a huge, complex, highly specialised project.

Directing, script writing, acting, editing, music...

The process of filmmaking brings

 together the talents and expertise of a wide range,

transforming creative ideas into

 compelling cinematic experiences.



But in a school,

what does a film created by children look like?

how do they make a film

without extensive experience, 

the support of specialised equipment 

or superb production skills?

How can they make a film that

touches the hearts and minds of the viewers?


Let's take a look at this year's 

inaugural Harrow Zhuhai

House Film Competition

Each House has 

a student-led microfilm production.

For the first time, children wrote the script, organised the filming

 and did the editing themselves.

The successful production

 of these films is an excellent demonstration

 of the theme of the competition, 

"Fellowship"!

Led by students from each house, each House has 5 weeks to produce their films. Every student must get involved in the making of the film.

Roles


Students take on their own roles as script writers, actors, directors, special effects, filming/camera crews, video editors, sound/music technicians, and title and credits designers.


Requirements


An original story of 3-4 minutes in length, the language of the work must be bilingual, and the film must include at least one scene showing all the members of the House.





Even though the film was made by students, it had all the roles and co-ordinated work, and the judges scored the film in terms of script, performance, shooting, editing, sound effects, props and the participation of the whole house. The judging site also invited Mr Tao Ran, a senior film industry veteran, who not only participated in the judging as a member of the jury, but also gave a lively introductory lecture on film production and appreciation.

“The format of this activity was innovative, allowing for learning by doing, and student participation and motivation were particularly high. Each film has made in-depth excavation and understanding of 'Fellowship' from different perspectives, demonstrating a high level of intention.”


After the demonstration and scoring, Churchill, Anderson and Sun Yat-Sen were finally awarded the top three winners of the 1st Harrow Zhuhai House Film Competition! The outstanding works from each of the House were very different in style and character, take a look at the winning Houses' films together!



Churchill



The film tells a heart-warming story of an introverted and shy girl who is newly joint into the Churchill family and is once mistaken for a "mute" due to her inability to speak well. The group learns sign language to communicate with her. The girl is touched and finally opens up and actively integrates into the group.

When I first received the theme of "Fellowship", I was confused. The word "Fellowship" is not new to us, but when I was really asked to use the film to explain the definition of friendship, I didn't have a clue for a while.

        At this time, an essay - Friendship This Thing, gave me inspiration. In this article, the author explains what friendship is. One of the sentences, "friends are like a lamp in your life, in your most need of warmth when you send you warmth, friends are like your spiritual support, in your most decadent time to give you courage, makes you a good friend. Friends are like a lamp in your life to give you warmth when you need it most, and friends are like your spiritual support to give you courage when you are most depressed.”, made me think that friendship is a two-way street, a light in the darkness, and a pair of helping hands when you need help.

         So I described a timid and introverted girl being misunderstood that she cannot speak. In the real world, people who are reluctant to express themselves and in a "special situation" are often ignored. Fortunately, this girl joined a warm House. Her companions didn't take a "hands-off" attitude because of her closure. Everyone helped her in their own way, warming her, and it was because of everyone's efforts that this unity and fellowship was created.


It's worth noting that the entire staff and students of Churchill really learnt sign language for this film! The gestures in the video are exactly British Sign Language, meaning:

Anderson



Anderson’s film is more cerebral than other House productions! It's a story about a group that is in danger, and they must work together to find the right spell to save the entire Anderson House from being invaded by monsters. Can you guess what the word "spell" is?

Sun Yat-Sen


Sun Yat-Sen's film is in the style of a daily documentary on campus, with three short films with different plots, interpreting the spirit of "Fellowship” from different perspectives. The first story is about a new student who suffers from a special disease, and eventually solves the misunderstandings and reaches a consensus with the group; the second story is about a girl who is good at playing the piano, and when her sparkling points are discovered and appreciated by the group, she gains confidence in integrating into the group; and the third story is about a player who accidentally falls down in a fierce running race, and the other player chooses to stop and care about him to help him.

After watching the above films,

Do you wonder where this 

power to move people comes from?



It was the first time that students took the lead as the organisers of the filmmaking, while the teachers took a back seat and provided full support while trying not to interfere in the process. Teachers were pleasantly surprised by the strong cohesion, uninhibited creativity, enthusiasm for independent learning and teamwork that emerged from this endeavour.







And as a result, the film work presents a true passion and raw emotional expression, reminding us that the magic of cinema lies not only in technical mastery, but also in unbridled creativity and unbridled passion.

We watched the senior students polish their scripts over and over again, communicated with the junior students about their performances, and watched them get together to fiercely discuss filming techniques and the design of lighting angles... We watched them make mistakes, overthrow them, and shoot shots that were not so perfect in the eyes of adults. We had to control ourselves, not to intervene too much in their inspirations and creations, and to leave the process of growth to the children in its entirety. The process of growth is left intact for the children. Each film is not perfect, but they represent a child's exploration and understanding of the world, instead of what we think is good in our minds. These are 6 films that belong to children in their entirety. Imperfect, but beautiful.


House Film is a brand-new endeavour and another focused manifestation of the vitality of House system. In the new school year, Harrow Zhuhai will continue to explore and innovate activities and learning programmes, so that the vitality of the House system can blossom even more fully, and the children can truly develop their leadership attributes and passion for learning and life.
