为了帮助新同学快速熟悉校园环境，融入集体，今年的破冰环节可谓创意十足。高年级为同学们安排了“寻宝”活动，同学们按院舍分为2-3人一组，每一位新生都会分到属于自己的buddy。他们需要解开谜题，找到6个神秘挑战地点。接着前往这些地点，挑战每位擂主以赢得他们的签名。收集全部6个签名便可以获得相应的院舍分数。

这六大挑战包括学校常识、科学常识、书籍问题、排球传递、你画我猜等。在活动的过程中，既能让学生熟悉校园环境、了解学校规定，也能让培养同学们的互助精神，共同赢得院舍积分，同时让新同学快速融入新环境。

Excellence Through Time

Harrow Hengqin Opening Ceremony

 for the 2023-24 school year

The Opening Ceremony of the new academic year was held as scheduled. Unlike the past, this year's theme is even more profound - Excellence Through Time, signifying that Harrovians have taken over the torch of the spirit inherited for centuries, just like generations of outstanding Old Harrovians, pursuing excellence throughout their lives and moving forward with firm hope and ambition. 

At the ceremony, Dr Max Caruso, Head Master of Harrow Hengqin, explained the theme in depth, calling on everyone to integrate into the grand river of time, actively explore their own potentials and contribute to the pursuit of excellence and to become outstanding.

Ms Elise Li, Chinese Principal of Harrow Hengqin, previewed the rich opportunities for academic growth and development in the new academic year, encouraging everyone to embark on a journey of discovery, exploring both the wonders of the world and the energy within to shine their own light.

Parent representatives also spoke at the Opening Ceremony, conveying the positive changes and personal feelings of her children after joining Harrow Hengqin.

The time gallery at the ceremony site led us through centuries of time, recalling generations of outstanding Harrovians whose names have gone down in history. These resounding names are like bright stars that illuminate the path to excellence and remind us that excellence is not a fleeting moment, but an ongoing process.

In the "Time Capsule", a special part of the ceremony, students wrote down their expectations for the future (e.g."What do you want to say to yourself in ten years?") and put them into a "Time Capsule". These capsules will be collected and buried in a mysterious corner of the campus, waiting to be reopened in the future.

What did the students write down as their wishes? Let's keep it a secret for now and let time tell us the answer! There are infinite possibilities in the life of a Harrovian, and each one's trajectory is destined to be extraordinary, so we hope that when we look back after many years, you will be able to realise the wishes you made back then!

Unique Hat Ceremony

The Hat Ceremony is one of the most unique school traditions. Wearing a Harrow Hat means that a new student formally becomes a Harrovian, and from then on, students will carry a sense of honour and a sense of mission, and the four values of "Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship" will be imprinted in the hearts of the Harrovians and will lead them to become the future navigators.

The Hat Ceremony is also an important part of the Opening Ceremony every year. Each new student came on stage one by one, and the Heads put on the Harrow hat for them and gave them a capping to show their respect. Teachers, students and parents gave them a warm round of applause, and the House's peers even shouted enthusiastically to welcome the new youngsters.

Novelty games to break the ice

In the Lower School, the little Harrovians started the new term with excitement and curiosity. They quickly mingled with their classmates when they returned to their classes and got acquainted with their new classmates very quickly with the ice-breaking games arranged by their homeroom teachers.

In order to help G1 students adapt to primary school life at Harrow as quickly as possible, Harrow Hengqin has set up an innovative Super Fortnight programme starting this year. During the first two weeks of the school year, G1 students will be in mixed classes with smaller teaching groups exchanged to quickly build up their comfort with daily rules, learning styles and get to know all of their classmates and teachers, turning Harrow Hengqin's youngest Harrovians into real Harrovians.

In addition to Upper School and Lower School Adaptation Programmes, in order for the school's academic team to better understand the academic status of new and existing students after the holidays, Harrow Hengqin will also be conducting baselining tests for each subject in the first two weeks, making it easier for the school to provide students with a customised learning content in the future teaching and learning process.
