 Language Program (EAL) 

 英语作为非母语的教学和学习

At Sias International School (Sias IS), our primary goal is to develop internationally minded students with global perspective. We take immense pride in being able to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for that opens up new horizons for every student.

One of the core components of our academic framework is the English as an Additional Language Program (EAL).  Our unwavering commitment is to equip students with the language skills they need to confidently access their grade-level coursework.


英语作为非母语的教学和学习 (以下简称 “EAL”),是学校学术课程的核心部分之一。我们致力于为学生提供与课程需求匹配的英文学习、发展与支持。



Tailor-made Program

We understand that students arrive at our school with diverse backgrounds, varying levels of language proficiency, and distinct learning styles. Our EAL program is meticulously designed to be flexible and responsive to the unique needs of each student.


我们意识到,每个来到我们这里的学生都有他们独特的背景经历、语言能力和学习风格。因此,我们根据学生的个人情况量身定制、精心设计相应的EAL课程。

Initial Identify

初步评估


At Sias IS, we use different screening and benchmark assessments to gauge the English language proficiency of each student.


在西亚斯外籍学校,我们采用多种方式及基准测评来帮助学生做语言程度的初步评估。

Further Screening

深入测评


Once the student’s level of English language proficiency is determined, we further assess them for their specific language needs in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.


完成初步评估后,我们会进一步对学生的听、说、读、写进行深入测评。

Tier System

分层教学


To ensure that we deliver an individualized and responsive learning experience, we categorize our students into three tiers, allowing us to meet the specific needs of the students.


为确保我们可以为学生提供个性化和响应速度快的学习体验,我们会根据测评结果将学生分为三个层级,以确保我们可以满足学生的特定需求。





Tier 3-Intensive Support

我们为第三层级的学生提供高强度

学习支持

Students who are at the beginning stages of their English language development are offered dedicated English language sessions for 3-5 times a week. During these sessions, students receive comprehensive instruction in foundational English language skills, encompassing speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Additionally, we also provide support through in-class sessions.


对于处于英语学习初期的学生,我们为他们提供每周3-5次的专项英语学习课堂;在专项英语语言学习课堂中,我们为学生提供综合课程以提升听、说、读、写的全方位基础英语能力。此外,我们还将通过日常上课内容为其英语学习提供支持。




Tier 2-Targeted Support

第二层级的学生将享受到专项支持

Students who are at the developing stages of their English language are provided with additional English language sessions 2-3 times a week. During these sessions, students receive supplementary instruction that aligns with their current grade-level curriculum. Furthermore, students in this tier also receive additional support through in-class sessions.


我们为英语语言处于发展期的学生提供每周2-3次的额外英语课堂。通过此课堂,我们为学生提供与其学段课程所匹配的补充学习指导;同时,我们也将通过日常上课内容为其英语学习提供支持。




Tier1 students-Monitoring & Supporting

我们为第一层级的学生提供强化支持

Students receive English as an additional language (EAL)-appropriate instruction within their regular classroom settings, guided by their subject teachers. The EAL teacher and Coordinator closely monitor the progress of these EAL students and provide guidance and assistance as needed.


班级教师和学科教师在常规课堂环境中为此类学生提供英语作为附加语言 (EAL) 的教学,同时EAL教学组及教学主任会密切监控学生进度并按需提供指导和帮助。

Re-evaluate

阶段评估与调整


Our well-defined entry and exit criteria and periodic assessments allows us to deliver precisely targeted support, monitor individual progress, adapt to evolving needs, and optimize the prospects for skill level advancement.


科学的评测分层体系和阶段评估使我们能够为学生提供精确且有针对性的支持。通过及时的个人学习进度监控,根据学生进展和需求变化及时调整策略,从而尽最大可能加快学生英文水平提升的速度。



Development of Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening Skills

  重视培养学生的听、说、读、写全方位的能力 


Our program emphasizes the development of students' reading, writing, speaking,and listening skills. We believe that these skills are interconnected, and proficiency in one area can enhance performance in the others. Our teachers use a variety of teaching strategies, including immersive language experiences, group discussions, and individualized feedback, to help students build their language skills. These strategies are not only used in isolation during their Literacy lessons, but are also  are interlinked throughout all of their lessons, in different subject areas.


西亚斯外籍学校的EAL课程强调培养学生的阅读、写作、口语和听力技能。我们认为,这些技能是相互联系的,任何一个领域的提高,都会带动其他领域相应提高。教师们会采用形式多样的教学策略,包括沉浸式语言体验、小组讨论和个性化的反馈机制,从而帮助学生建立一整套语言技能。这些策略不仅在英文课上单独使用,还将贯穿于所有课程学习当中。

We identify the student’s assets and the needs in the area of English language development.


通过测评,充分识别学生的英文水平并深度了解其在英文学习与发展过程中的需求;



 The Parent|家长  


EAL team partners with the parents in to provide a supportive structure for the student. Teachers also share the student’s individualized language targets and progress with the parents.


EAL团队与家长合作,为学生的英文学习提供帮助。同时,教师团队及时与家长共享学生的个人英文学习目标与发展进度。



 The Teacher|老师  


Through collaboration, our teachers build asset-based approach and regularly monitor student’s progress.


教师团队间紧密协作、以测评结果为基础和导向,密切关注学生进度。




As said by Ms. Kay, EAL & Language Acquisition Coordinator of Sias IS, that "We believe that the high-quality teaching and learning of English as a second language is a vital component of our academic program. We are committed to provide students with the support they need to develop and use English language, so that we can confidently and competently access their grade-level curriculum. The English language is a work in progress. Let’s have some fun learning and enjoying the language.”
