火爆英国的BBC儿童写作大赛，哈罗学子如何演绎？

前段时间，我们深入低年级英语课堂，了解了“描述性写作”、“Talk for Writing”、自然拼读法等哈罗横琴低龄段英语学习方法，其中强调描述人物、地点、物体和场景的“描述性写作”可以帮助孩子发展观点，进而做到用英语讲好一个故事。而讲故事的能力，既是掌握一门语言的必经之路，也是重要的学习目标。

怎样可以让孩子们进一步发展

11月，哈罗横琴低年级学部举办首个

“500 Words”英语创意写作比赛

鼓励孩子们发挥想象力

写出属于他们自己的故事！

“BBC 500 Words”是英国每年面向5-13岁小朋友举办的小故事作文比赛，旨在激发小朋友们对阅读和写作的兴趣，现在已成为全球最有影响力的儿童故事写作比赛，每年有十几万投稿参与。比赛规定参赛作品的单词数不得超过500个，故事可以异想天开、天马行空，而语法和拼写正确并非首要评审标准。

“今年我很荣幸出任英国“BBC 500 Words”的评委之一，通过阅读来自全球孩子们的精彩故事，我也发现了这个比赛最具特色的地方，是可以让孩子们放下语法、拼写和标点符号的负担，无拘无束地创作属于自己的故事。于是我们想在哈罗横琴举行自己的“500 Words”故事创作比赛。当然，我们在原版活动基础上做了改进，根据年级划分了几个比赛组别，不过评选标准是与BBC的比赛完全一致的。”

这次比赛中，1、2年级为一个组别，3、4年级为一个组别，5年级单独为一组，分初赛、决赛两轮进行，最终决出3位优胜者。老师们的评审标准主要包括：

● 角色塑造

● 剧情

● 原创性

● 语言表达

● 趣味性

● 绘制插图为加分项

同时，为了帮助同学们更顺畅地用英语写出自己编织的故事，低年级学部的老师们除了课上写作技能辅导，更额外准备了一些写作常用单词卡和简单易懂的脚本结构图，让孩子们带回家与爸爸妈妈一起讨论故事创作。

The other days we delved into Lower School English classes and knew about Harrow Hengqin's English learning methods such as Descriptive Writing, Talk for Writing, and Phonics. The emphasis on Descriptive Writing that describes people, places, objects, and scenes can help children develop their perspectives and ultimately tell a good story in English. The ability to tell stories is not only a necessary path to mastering a language, but also an important learning goal.

How to further develop children’s

ability to tell stories?

In November,

Harrow Hengqin Lower School held its first

“500 Words Writing Competition”

which encouraged children to unleash their imagination

and write their own story!

“BBC 500 Words” is an annual short story writing competition held in the UK for children aged 5-13, aimed at stimulating their interest in reading and writing. It has now become the most influential children's story writing competition in the world, with over 100,000 submissions each year. The competition stipulates that the number of words in the entries must not exceed 500, stories can be imaginative and imaginative, and correct grammar and spelling are not the primary evaluation criteria.

“I’m honoured to be a judge for entries submitted by children from across the UK. By reading wonderful entries from children around the world, I found that the most distinctive feature of this competition is that children are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination to write a story they would love to read without the pressure of having to worry about spelling, punctuation and grammar. Taking inspiration from that, we would like to host an internal competition for the students at Harrow Hengqin. Our internal version contains several categories, but it is based upon the same criteria for the BBC competition.”

In this competition, Grade 1 and 2 form a group, Grade 3 and 4 form a group, and Grade 5 forms a separate group. The competition is divided into two rounds, the preliminary round and the final round, and three winners are ultimately determined. The evaluation criteria mainly include:

● Characterization

● Plot

● Originality

● Language

● Enjoyment

● Stories may also be decorated with illustrations (optional)

At the same time, in order to help students write their own woven stories in English more smoothly, teachers of Lower School not only provided writing skills guidance in class, but also prepared vocabulary frequently used in storytelling and simple plot structure diagrams, allowing children to take them home and discuss story creation with their parents.

After rigorous selection,

three winners stood out from all submissions!
