In Grade 1, students successfully wrapped up Unit 2, 'Where We Are in Place and Time,' by engaging in a vibrant presentation session. Each group showcased their understanding and appreciation of different countries by presenting meticulously crafted flags, detailed descriptions, and iconic landmarks, demonstrating their growing global awareness. This unit culminated in a lively exchange of cultural insights among classmates, further enriching their learning experience.

Grade 2

In Grade 2, the students focussed on preparing for their assembly performance. They dedicated time to practising and rehearsing their lines, as well as creating posters and designs to enhance their presentation.

Grade 3

In Grade 3, the students have continued improving their times table knowledge by focussing on the seven times table throughout the week. By establishing the multiples within and working together to hypothesise and test possible patterns, the students worked towards increasing their fluency and improving their Times Tables Rock Stars heat map.

Grade 4 students have begun to look at myths and legends for unit 3. Among other things, students have discovered the role of scientific progress in helping humanity to understand many aspects of the world more fully, as well as in dispelling many of humanity's antiquated beliefs about supernatural phenomena.

This week, Grade 5 students looked at algebraic equations. Students looked at various formulas and methods to solve and critically evaluate equations and expressions of unknown variables.

In Grade 6, the class delved into science, commencing with a self-assessment and reflection on the previous Unit of Inquiry. Following this, the students embarked on their new unit, ‘How We Express Ourselves,’ igniting their curiosity and enthusiasm for exploration and discovery in the realm of scientific understanding.

This week buzzed with excitement as science played a vital role in crafting artwork and in experimenting with colours that resulted in exquisite Christmas balls. With the beginning of the new unit, ‘How We Express Ourselves,’ students embraced the opportunity to convey festive wishes through both Christmas ornaments and cards.

Music

Music is a beautiful expression of art but it also has a base in science. For instance, sounds are produced when something like a surface vibrates – and those vibrations are then brought to the ear as sound waves. Mathematics also plays a huge role in music, especially in connection with the variations in pitch, volume, tempo, and rhythm of songs. Therefore, the science of sound reminds us to stop, listen, and feel the vibration when playing music. 


To better understand this concept and enhance their Christmas performance, this week, students attentively analysed the music that they played through tempo and rhythm, whilst feeling its vibration.

Grade 1 to Grade 6 showed their digital creativity in this week’s ICT class. Stop-motion animation using clay, digital books, and the recreation of famous people through Memoji. These are just some of the tools that were introduced to the students to support their exploration of visual information and hone their fine motor skills.

Grade 1 students studied the nursery rhyme ‘Little Boat.’ While learning Chinese characters and metaphors belonging to this rhyme, students also learnt the science behind the changes in the moon phases. Students discussed whether the moon itself can shine and why it is sometimes seen as round while other times it is seen as a crescent shape. During the discussion, students made a great effort to think about and answer all the above inquiries attentively. To better understand the principles behind the moon phases, students also conducted a simple experiment on it.


There is a magical animal referred to as the Hanhao Bird that is not an actual bird but a gliding rat. While tackling a new text, Grade 2 students were very curious about this animal, asking a lot of questions about it. They learnt that the Hanhao Bird is a complex-toothed flying squirrel, which is also called ‘Hanhao Bug’ in some places in China. The Hanhao Bird has a fox-like face, a beak that resembles that of a mouse, and a tail that is similar to that of a squirrel. It has membranes connecting its front and rear limbs which allow it to glide in the air. This animal is called ‘Hanhao Bird’ because it likes to sleep during the day and be active at night, looking like a bird that glides around.

普通话作为第一语言


本周Grade1的学生学习儿歌《小小的船》,在学习儿歌中汉字和比喻等语文知识的同时,也融入学习了月相变化的科学知识,学生讨论了月球本身是否会发光?月亮为什么会时而圆时而弯?在讨论中学生都能积极的进行思考和回答。为了让学生更加直观和充分理解月相变化的原理,学生还进行了简单的月相变化小实验。


有一种神奇的动物,它叫寒号鸟,可它实际上并不是鸟类,而是一种会滑翔的鼠类。二年级的学生对课文中出现的寒号鸟充满了好奇,他们提出了很多问题,通过学习他们了解到寒号鸟其实是复齿鼯鼠,在中国的一些地方也叫做“寒号虫”。寒号鸟的脸长得像狐狸,嘴长得像老鼠,尾巴像松鼠,前后肢间有皮膜相连,可以在空中滑翔。之所以被称为“寒号鸟”是因为它们喜欢白天睡觉,晚上活动,夜晚活动时就靠着皮膜在树林中穿梭,远远看过去就像鸟儿在飞翔。

Grade 3 and Grade 4 students have been engaged in exploratory learning around the theme of ‘sending letters.’ They first discussed how common communication methods, such as mobile phones, computers, face-to-face conversations, etc., influence our lives. Next, they investigated the fact that letters were one of the few existing means of communication before the advent of technology. Students then learnt which steps to take when sending a letter. Last, they participated in the activity ‘Secret Letters Without Words,’ which combined practical and scientific knowledge: the students learnt how lemon juice produces citric acid if heated, thus allowing the colours of their letters to become clearer and more vibrant.

普通话作为第二语言

“Today’s science fiction is tomorrow’s science fact!” —a quote by famous science fiction author, Isaac Asimov. Although today we do not live in a world of aliens but a few talking robots, the Lower Primary Library Club students explored the genre of science fiction and read the story ‘The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot’ —a tale inspired by the ‘Three Little Pigs.’ 


The Upper Primary Library Club students were introduced to the Dewey Decimal System. Much like the Periodic Table, in chemistry, which organises all the chemical elements, the Dewey Decimal System is used in the library to organise and arrange the ten main nonfiction categories in it.

Chinese Maths

Grade 6 students reasoned and explored the area of circles and sectors based on the area of a circle formula, whilst they asked precise questions, solved complex problems, and summarised the above-mentioned formula. This process was designed to help students increase their interest in mathematics and their ability to conduct independent investigations.

The Kindergarten 3 and Grade 1 students started their gymnastics program. Students learnt how to perform a safe forward roll. 

The Grade 2 and Grade 3 students challenged each other to grab the tag from their peers. 

The Grade 4 to 6 students learnt when to correctly use give-and-go skills and enhanced their understanding of it.
