Michael Harkins，作为橘郡美高的一名资深外籍教师，这已经是他在这所学校的第六个年头。
Just under twenty years ago, I made a decision to become a teacher. The choice I made has been both rewarding and adventurous.
在20年前，他选择成为一名教师。在这20年间。他当初所做的这个决定，带给了他巨大的回报，也带领他经历了许多有趣的冒险。
My teaching career began in San Diego County, California, USA, in a middle school, and after that, I worked in a major international school in San Diego. I taught and met students from all over the world over there. A colleague at the school would steer me in the direction of teaching English internationally.
Michael的教学生涯始于美国加州圣地亚哥的一所中学，而后成为圣地亚哥一所国际学校的英语教师。在那里，他遇到来自全世界不同国家的学生，并为他们授课。在机缘巧合下，他走向了国际英语教学方向。
I spent a few years teaching English in a rural Middle School in southern South Korea. In the beginning, I have to admit it was hard, but as time passed, it became easier. I did not find it difficult to adapt to the Korean culture and everyday life. After nearly five years, it was time for a change.
接下来，Michael开始了他有趣的冒险之旅。他花了几年时间在韩国的一所农村中学教英语。不得不承认，一开始是艰辛的。但随着时间推移，一切变得简单些了。Michael并不觉得很难适应韩国的文化和日常生活。在将近五年后，他觉得是时候做出改变了。
My great adventure in China begins.
于是，Michael在中国的伟大冒险开始了。
I got lucky six years ago, landing a good position at Orange County American High School. My first year was in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia where I found the country friendly, open, diverse and educational.
他说：“六年前我很幸运，在橘郡美高找到了一个好职位。我在内蒙古呼和浩特市（橘郡美高呼市二中校区）的第一年，我就发现了这个国家友好、开放、多元，并重视教育。”
My learning continued into the next year at Taiyuan, Shanxi. Not only did I grow into a skilled teacher in Taiyuan, I became confident in leading a great life in China. Here, I taught many more subjects, from Science to History and made many Chinese friends.
第二年，Michael被调到了橘郡美高在山西省太原市的分校。他不仅在太原市成长为一名成熟的国际英语教师，而且对在中国过上美好生活充满信心。在那里，他教了更多的学科，从科学到历史，也交了很多中国朋友。
Good fortune continued for me as I was able to teach, in my opinion, is the best city in China, Shenzhen, two years ago. My life is very good here. I am in a great school, with wonderful students and a dedicated staff.

I am humbled to receive this award. If you ask me what the key to the success I have enjoyed, I would say that it is very basic. “Treat others like you want to be treated.” This is known as The Golden Rule. It is simple, basic and it works. It is what is primarily on my mind every time I walk in to the classroom, every time I walk into the office and every time I walk the streets of Shenzhen. China has been most rewarding in my life. It is good to me because I am good to her.
