在维校的双语教育中,无限延伸

1998年,从香港回到上海,再到深圳和苏杭。随着时代与科技的发展,我们欣喜地看到,维校学子总能在各个领域发光发亮、无限延伸。




双语学习

自70年代初以来,维多利亚作为最早提出“一师一语言”的教育机构,奉行双语教育已有近半个世纪。VPA的姐妹学校沪江维多利亚学校更是以优质的双语教学办学理念和品质,多次入围全球前50所最佳成绩IB学校,在今年的大考中也获得了39.5的平均分(满分45)的好成绩。

在双语的环境中学习不仅让学生们有学习另外一种语言或者另外一种文化的机会,而且根据研究发现,双语教育还可以增强认知发展、增强头脑灵活度、提高大脑的执行能力、提高记忆力等。

总校长孔美琪早在博士在读期间深度研了以中英文为例的双语教学。多项研究结果表明,在双语的环境中学习不仅增强了学生们的语言能力和对多元文化的包容,增强和完善对这个世界的认知, 更有利于提高孩子的情商和智商。根据一项跟踪研究表明,接受双语教学的学生在成人后抽象思维和协作能力都更加出色。 

值得注意的是,培养出双语孩子不需要父母双方都懂得另外一种语言;而且不光母语教师才可以进行双语教育。丰富、充满活力、有意义的交流更为重要。


一个双语学生就像是一辆两个轮子都打上了同样气压的自行车,会跑得更平稳。

Bilingual Education

Since 1970s, Victoria Organization had started bilingual education. Our sister school, VSA, has built a good foundation as a bilingual school for over 20 years in Hong Kong. It is one of the Top 50 IB schools all over the world.

Learning in two languages not only provides the opportunity for students to learn another language or even another culture, but also benefits students in many other ways. It increases cognitive development, increases mental flexibility, improves the executive function of the brain, improves memory, and so on.

Our head principal, Dr. Koong, has done many researches on bilingual education when she was pursuing her doctor degree. According to many researches, learning in two languages not only improves students’ language ability and inclusiveness on the diverse cultures, but also improves children’s intelligence and emotional intelligence. People who had bilingual education would be better in abstract thinking and working collaboratively.

Any parent can raise a child who knows more than one language, even if that parent is monolingual; and rich, dynamic, andmeaningful interaction iscritical and more importantthan having a perfectnative-speaker model.


A bilingual student is like a bicycle with two equally pumped tires that can run smoothly.

无限延伸

来自斯坦福教授Jo Boaler的“Low Floor High Ceiling” 是我们信奉的一个教育理念。比起为学生们准备很多类似的学习任务,我们更愿意把精力放在一个精心设计的“Low Floor High Ceiling”任务上,这样的任务让学生们可以更容易入手,但又会在后期根据学生的能力分出合理的层次。

Floor代表着一个项目或者学习内容的入门槛。比如,五年级的学生们在学对称轴。他们的low floor就是探究轴对称图形的性质和特点,学习怎样分辨、创造轴对称图形。我们不希望学生从一开始就感到焦躁,所以门槛不会设得很高,但这并不意味着我们只会提供简易的教学任务。

Ceiling则代表一个项目或者学习内容的高度,以及学生能够在其中成长的空间。同样对称轴的学习,老师会带领学生观察轴对称图形在自然界的存在,通过沉浸式学习和融合,在保障数学学科的严谨性和独立性的前提下,去做跨学科的融合, 以及在几何结构的组合中做更多样化的探索。

数学科目的严老师在中美两国IB学校有多年PYP/MYP课程设计与执教经历,曾担任美国树人国际学校Noetic全美数学竞赛指导。

严老师认为时间上的领先不是一个特别的优势,所以我们更重视对高阶数学的探究兴趣和能力。老师会从海量的双语题库里选择了最经典、最核心的内容,让学生们更有效率地学习。

Low Floor High Ceiling

One of the theories on education that we believe is the “Low Floor High Ceiling” from a Stanford professor, Jo Boaler. Rather than planning many similar tasks for the class, we would like to put more energy into one great task with a low floor and a high ceiling, one that is easy to get started with, but scales differently for students.

Low floor means simple starting point that everyone can get on board. For example, in year 5, students are learning the axis of symmetry. The low floor for students is to inquire into the properties of symmetric figures and learn how to distinguish and create symmetric figures. We want students to get start with the task without getting frustrated, but it doesn’t mean we want simple tasks. 

The ceiling is the room for a task to grow. It gives students room to explore before getting bored. For example, after being able to distinguish and create symmetric figures, students will be asked to draw the whole symmetric figure by having half of the figure. This is only one more step from the lowest floor, and our teacher will lead the students to explore more on geometry.

Different from other schools, our math class is taught in two languages. Our math teacher, Mr. Yan, has many PYP/MYP curriculum design and teaching experience in both Chinese and American IB schools.

Mr. Yan believes that keeping ahead is not a very particular advantage, so we care more about the interest and the ability in doing math. Mr. Yan has picked the most essential and classic ones from tons of tasks for students to practice efficiently.

为了保障每日食品安全,学校根据校医给到的建议做出营养丰富的菜谱。 维多利亚的幼儿园和中小学多年以来保持由当值校长在学生午餐时间前半小时亲自试吃的传统,以最严谨的要求确保餐食的健康与安全。
