重拾中华礼道之美 彼一米小学部2023UOI夏令营首期回顾 | BeeMee UOI Summer Camp

中国六艺,即礼、乐、射、御、书、数,是中国古代传统文化中的重要组成部分。它旨在培养君子的公德心、高尚品质和修身养性,锻炼其自控能力和坚韧不拔的品质。

The Six Chinese Arts, i.e. Rites, Music, Archery, Royalty, Calligraphy and Mathematics, are an important part of traditional Chinese culture in ancient China. It aims to cultivate a gentleman's sense of public morality, noble qualities and cultivation of the body, and to exercise the self-control and resilience.


2023年7月21日,彼一米小学部2023超学科主题探究UOI快闪夏令营顺利结营。在这五天的时间里,彼一米夏令营的孩子们深度体验CBFS全英沉浸式学习与项目式探究的乐趣,感受成为“君子”的魅力与涵养。孩子们不仅了解到了可贵的人格和技能,更是了解到了君子的仁爱情怀和安邦治国、心怀天下的精神。让我们一同从中国六艺入手,踏上这段探索之旅!

On 21 July 2023, the Ultra-Disciplinary Thematic Inquiry UOI Flash Camp of the Primary Division of BeeMee was successfully concluded. This time, the children of BeeMee Summer Camp experienced the compulsory content of becoming a "gentleman" through the immersive English learning, not only understood the valuable personality and skills, but also understood the benevolence of the gentleman and the spirit of governing the country and keeping the world in mind. Let's embark on this journey of discovery together, starting with the six arts of China!




开营分院仪式、破冰活动

Assembly, Ice Breaking Activities

在绿叶婆娑舞动的七月,夏令营在丰富而有意义的破冰活动拉开了序幕。破冰活动分为“分院仪式”和“破冰游戏”两个环节。张天易老师给大家带来了学院科普小课堂,孩子们被随机分配到屠呦呦、牛顿、爱因斯坦、居里学院,孩子们和老师们跨越国籍、性别、年龄、班级等融合发展,相信在接下来的夏令营时间,所有学院的成员们都会为自己的学院School House而奋斗!

The second summer camp of Changsha BeeMee Forest School started with a rich and meaningful ice-breaking activity in July. The ice-breaking activity was divided into two parts, which are "Ceremony of the Academy" and the "Ice-breaking Game", Ms. Olivia brought a small introduction class to BeeMee House, and the children were assigned to the  House of Tu Youyou, Newton, Einstein, and Curie, where the children and teachers integrated across nationality, gender, age, and other integration and development. We believe that in the following summer camp time, all the members of the each House will fight for their own house!


“破冰”环节中,孩子们通过采访活动给彼此留下了美好的第一印象。在一个个问题,一声声赞叹中,孩子们不仅知道了对方的姓名、爱好、特长等关键信息,也锻炼了社交技能、沟通技能等软技能。

In the "ice-breaking" session, where the children made a good first impression of each other through interviews. Through questions and compliments, the children not only learnt about each other's names, hobbies and specialities, but also practiced soft skills such as social skills and communication skills.

The BeeMee Summer Camp programme integrates Chinese, English, creative arts and PE, expands on the CNC curriculum.


在全英探究的课堂上,孩子们跟着外教老师的引导,学习基础的英文礼仪知识,积极参与互动,课堂氛围热烈。

On the UOI lessons, children learnt basic English etiquette from international teachers and actively participate in the interactive and immersive educational atmosphere.


Etiquette

中国的礼仪文化源远流长,被称为礼仪之邦。早在西周时期,《周礼》就将礼划分为五类,称为五礼。后世修订礼典,大体都依吉、凶、军、宾、嘉五礼为纲,对历代礼制有着深远的影响。

China's etiquette culture has a long history and is known as the land of etiquette. As early as the Western Zhou Dynasty, Zhou Li, known as the rites of Zhou, divided the rites into five categories, called the Five Rites. Subsequent revisions of the ritual standard have generally followed this framework of the Five Rites of Ji (auspiciousness), Xiong (inauspiciousness), Jun (military), Bin (guest), and Jia (fineness), which has had a profound influence on the etiquette systems of all later dynasties. 


本次夏令营中的“五礼”文化素养课程着重为孩子们介绍对比了古代与现代礼仪制度的异同。课堂围绕着古代五礼的起源、内容、行礼方式以及今时今日的礼仪文化展开,从待人之礼、仪表之礼、言谈之礼、餐饮之礼等几个方面为孩子们树立了新一代华夏儿女的礼仪标准。

The "Five Rites" cultural literacy course introduces to children the similarities and differences between ancient and modern etiquette systems. This experiential class will focus on the origin, content, and practice of the Five Rites in ancient times, as well as modern-day etiquette culture. The class established the etiquette standards for the new generation of Chinese youth in several aspects such as hospitality, appearance, conversation, and dining etiquette.


孩子们不仅学习了拱手礼、作揖礼、敬师礼等,还通过制作手工灯笼,体会到了中华传统文化之美。这样有趣的情景体验让孩子们既兴奋新奇,又了解到了文明有礼是人立身处世的前提。

The children who participated in the summer camp learned the greetings and salutations of Gongshou (palm salute), Zuoyi (bow salute), and Jingshi (teacher respecting salute). The class activity of making hand-made lanterns allowed everyone to experience the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.This interesting experiential learning allowed the children to feel excited and curious while also understanding that being civil and polite is a prerequisite for establishing oneself in society. 


Calligraphy

书,即书法,是中国文化中独特的艺术形式之一,它以字为媒介,展现其魅力,也表现出人的情感、思想和气质。而汉字作为一种古老而深厚的文字体系,蕴含着丰富的文化内涵和审美价值。

Calligraphy, is one of the unique art forms in Chinese culture, which uses characters as a medium to show its charm, as well as to express people's emotions, thoughts and temperament. And Chinese characters, as an ancient and profound writing system, contain rich cultural connotations and aesthetic values.


本次体验课程围绕着神奇的象形字展开。通过结绳记事、仓颉造字等故事的引入,激发了孩子们对汉字是如何创造出来的产生了强烈的好奇心。课堂上栩栩如生的象形字让孩子们感受了汉字的魅力。而汉字从象形字到简体字的演变也让孩子们领略到了古人的智慧和品格。

This experiential course focuses on the mysterious pictographs. Through stories such as knotting for record keeping and the creation of Chinese characters by Cangjie, children are inspired to develop a strong curiosity about how Chinese characters were created. In class, vivid pictographs allow children to experience the charm of Chinese characters. The evolution of Chinese characters from pictographs to simplified characters also allows children to appreciate the wisdom and character of ancient people. 


课堂当中,老师让每位孩子用彩色笔画出象形字对应的图画,并通过图像文字“找朋友”的游戏将课堂推向高潮。

During class, the teacher asked each child to use colored pencils to draw pictures corresponding to the pictographs, and through the game of "finding friends" with image letters, the class reached the climax.


Numeracy

算筹是一种计算工具。中国古代数学早期发达与持续发展都是受益于算筹。算筹是一根根同样长短和粗细的小棍子,多用竹子制成。

Suan Chou is a kind of computing rods that was beneficial to the early and sustained development of ancient Chinese mathematics. It is made up of small sticks of equal length and thickness, typically made from bamboo. 


算筹的记数形式有两种,一种是横式,一种是纵式。在了解利用算筹来记个位数与多位数的方法后,孩子们纷纷用棋子摆成自己喜欢的数字,同时学着用算筹去计算加减法。看!孩子们动手筹算,勤于思考,勇于挑战,小组和谐合作,感受着筹算之乐。

There are two forms of Suan Chou counting, namely horizontal and vertical. After understanding the method of using sticks to remember single-digit and multi-digit numbers, children can use math sticks to arrange numbers.The children learned to use Suan Chou to perform addition and subtraction calculations. They also worked together in groups to challenge themselves to become math experts. Our children engaged actively in calculations, thought diligently, challenged themselves, and collaborated harmoniously in groups. They all could feel the joy of Suan Chou mathematics.


在课堂的最后,孩子们了解了数学家祖冲之利用算筹,摆成数字,算出圆周率的小故事,他们想象着当年祖冲之在家里摆了一地小棍的场景——这一定是个非常巨大的工作量。孩子们不仅对祖冲之的博学多才、坚持不懈心生敬佩,同时对两千多年前,我们的祖先就懂得这么精妙的计算而赞叹不已。

Finally, through the story of mathematician Zu Chongzhi using Suan Chou to calculate the value of π, children can imagine the scene of Zu Chongzhi arranging small sticks all over his house. This must have been a massive task! They not only admire his knowledge, wisdom, and perseverance but also marvel at how our ancestors more than 2,000 years ago were able to perform such intricate calculations.


除了学习算筹,国际象棋也是孩子们需要积极开动脑筋的一项课程。这是一种在棋盘上玩的双人策略棋盘游戏,起源于亚洲,盛行于欧洲,是世界第二大体育竞技运动。

Apart from learning to count chips, chess is also a programme where children need to actively engage their brains. Chess is a board game for two players. Originating in Asia, it is popular in Europe and is the second most popular sport in the world. 


在夏令营的课堂上,老师生动形象地跟孩子们讲解完国际象棋的规则后,大家都跃跃欲试,想和小伙伴们对弈,来一决高下。练习时,孩子们的眼神紧紧地盯着棋盘,用稚嫩的手指轻轻拈起每一个棋子,小心翼翼地放在棋盘上。于此同时,在老师的引导之下,他们还情不自禁地用英语说着棋名,在短短的两节国际象棋课中,孩子们不仅学会了技法,英文水平也得到了提高。

In the class, after the teacher vividly explained the rules of chess to the children, everyone was eager to play against their little friends and compete for victory. As they practiced, the children carefully lifted each chess piece with their small fingers and placed it on the board, their eyes fixed on the board as if they could see through every piece. At the same time, they couldn’t help but name the pieces in English. In just tow chess classes, the children not only learned the techniques of chess, but also enjoyed the happiness that chess brought and improved their English.


Equestrian

六艺中的“御”指的是骑马和驾驶的能力。马和马车是古人最重要的交通工具和战争工具,也是提高效率的主要手段。此次夏令营,彼一米给孩子们提供了校内特色课马术学习。

Although the word "Yu" in the six arts refers to the ability to drive carriages and ride a horse, horses and carriages were the most important means of transport and warfare for the ancients. Learning to ride and drive in traffic saved a lot of time compared to walking and was a major means of increasing efficiency. We offer children at-campus equestrian learning at this camp.


孩子们穿上帅气的骑士服,勇敢地站在了场地上。但接下来,怎么驾驭这么高大的马呢?这成为了他们面临的最大挑战。由于人的身体和马缜密相连,彼此的每一个动作、每一次呼吸都能互相感应到,如何做到人马合一成为了本堂课的“重难点”。

The children put on the handsome knight suit, bravely stepped on to the field. Most of them then wondering how I can get on this gigantic animal, and how can I ride it. Coach told us when the rider and horse run together the human and horse are closely connected. Every movement and breath are shared, and the sensation of riding is one of coordination. 


在平地上活泼乱跳的孩子们,上了马儿后变得全神贯注、小心翼翼;而有些犹豫紧张的孩子们也在老师的鼓励下,逐渐克服了心理障碍。在跨上马背的那一刻,孩子们就成为了真正的勇士,但无论是御马还是御车,我们都是在通过这些方式,去用儒家御礼、御心、御法等内涵,去探寻和理解君子的通用哲理,这些技能和内在的意义都值得孩子们去细致考察、认真探究。

After coaches’ detailed instructions and demonstration. Our journey began! When the children are on the horses the animal are very careful and caring. Some children were hesitant to mount on the horses back. With the encouragement of the teacher, they overcame the psychological barrier and sat on the horses back becoming proud warriors. Whether it's the riding a horse or the ride carriage, we are using these to explore and understand the universal philosophies of the gentleman with the Confucian connotations of the Rites, the Mind, and the Laws. These skills and inner meanings deserve to be examined carefully and explored by our camp children.


此外,彼一米还为孩子们开设了攀岩课程。这是一项非常具有挑战性和锻炼价值的运动。它能够对身体的力量、灵活性和耐力进行全面的锻炼,还可以帮助孩子们集中注意力、克服恐惧、挑战自我,提高自我认知和自信心。

In addition, BeeMee offers rock climbing classes for children. Rock climbing is a very challenging and valuable exercise. It provides comprehensive training for the body's strength, flexibility, and endurance. Furthermore, it is also a mental challenge and exercise. It can help children focus, overcome fear, challenge themselves, improve self-awareness and self-confidence, while also cultivating their resilience and spirit of never giving up. 


大家都迫不及待地穿上攀岩装备,看到那么高的攀岩墙,孩子们的眼中都流露出势在必得的坚定。在教练讲解完攀岩的基本技巧和安全注意事项后,他们走向岩壁,开始朝着顶端进军。起初,孩子们手脚并用,将热情和信念化作动力,全神贯注地感受着岩块,留意身体在岩块上移动的每个细节,靠着自己的力量和攀登绳的协助,一步一步地往上迈进。

Everyone can't wait to put on the climbing equipment and walked to the climbing wall.They stared at the high wall and were so ready to try. After the coach explains the basic techniques and safety precautions of rock climbing, they walked towards the rock wall and started to march towards the top. At first, the young climbers were full of  passion and belief while climbing. They were fully concentrated on their body movement on the rock. They climbed step by step with the balance of infinite power and assistance of the rope. 


可正所谓“行百里者半九十”,最后的一小段距离总是最难征服的,但在小伙伴们充满活力的加油声中,孩子们鼓足勇气,一气呵成到达最高处,体会到了“一览众山小”的成就感。

However, as the saying goes:" half of a hundred miles is half of ninety", the last little distance is always the most difficult to conquer. The climbers were encouraged by the energetic cheers from their summer camp partners, so they finally reached the highest point in one go, experiencing a sense of accomplishment that "a view from the top makes all the mountains seem small." Their great performance not only requires courage, but also the determination to surpass all the difficulties.


Archery

射箭技艺的发展在中国历史上有着悠久的传统,射箭也是一种锻炼身体和培养意志力的运动方式。在射箭的过程中,射手具备较强的肌肉力量和稳定的身体控制能力。而在彼一米本周的夏令营中,孩子们通过接触高尔夫和击剑两项运动,锻炼身体及意志,精准利落以“射”之。

The development of archery skills has a long tradition in Chinese history, and archery is also a way of exercising the body and developing willpower. In the process of archery, the archer possesses strong muscle strength and stable body control. In this week's summer camp, children were exposed to golf and fencing to exercise their body and will, and to "shoot" with precision and accuracy.


在空中高尔夫球场,专业的教练首先介绍了高尔夫球的起源、基本规则以及比赛形式,让小朋友们对这项运动有了初步的了解。在练习区,通过教练的亲身示范和悉心指导,在熟悉握杆、站位、挥杆等基本技巧,孩子们开始尝试挥杆击球,有些孩子甚至展现出了出色的天赋,取得了不可思议的高分。

In the golf course. Our professional coach first introduced the origin, basic rules, and competition format of golf, giving children a basic understanding of the sport. In the practice area, coaches patiently guided children in techniques such as grip, stance, and swing. Through the coaches' personal demonstrations and careful guidance, they began to try swinging and hitting the ball. Some children even showed outstanding talent and won incredible high mark.


击剑,中世纪的贵族运动、奥运会比赛项目、“运动中的芭蕾”,它不仅是体力的较量,更是脑力的较量。在搏击交手过程中,双方需要不断观察,不断思考,在进入交锋距离内,在有限的时间里,迅速做出反应。这对孩子的头脑和智力以及身体的良好发育,都是一种非常有益的培养。

Fencing, known by many as a medieval noble sport and an Olympic competition, has emerged in the public view with terms like "the ballet of sports". Fencing is not just a test of physical strength but also a mental one. During the encounter, both parties need to constantly observe and think, quickly making responses within the limited time. It is a very beneficial activity for children's minds, intellects, and bodily development. 


孩子们佩戴好护具,眼神坚定,积极主动勇敢进攻,有的孩子还采取了“以我为主”的方法控制动手,颠覆固定的思维方式,给予对手无法捉摸的感觉。

Our children took a proactive approach, using their own methods to control their hands, overturning fixed ways of thinking, and giving their rivals an elusive feeling.



汇报展示

Presentation

“慈母手中线,游子身上衣。临行密密缝,意恐迟迟归。谁言寸草心,报得三春晖。”在夏令营的结题展演上,孩子们通过一首《游子吟》的手指谣表演,展现了他们对于中国传统文化的理解,以及对父母养育之恩的感激。

"The thread in the hands of a loving mother, the clothes on the body of a wandering son. The thread in the hands of a loving mother, the clothes on the body of a traveling son. Who says an inch of grass has a heart, but repays the three spring suns." At the closing exhibition of the camp, the children demonstrated their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and their gratitude to their parents for their nurturing through a finger ballad performance of "The Song of the Traveling Son".


孩子们用英语展示了古代学校培养“君子”及现代学校培养“君子”规则和礼仪的异同,根据这几天的积极探索,每个孩子对于这个话题都有很多自己的理解。格物明理、致知笃行,这些都是我们在孩子们身上看到的宝贵素养。

After whole week of English UOI lessons, all students use English to demonstrated the similarities and differences between the rules and etiquette of ancient and modern schools in raising a "gentleman", and based on the active exploration over the past few days, each child had a lot of their own understanding of this topic. These are the valuable qualities that we see in our children, such as the ability to recognise and understand things, and the ability to learn and act.


此外,孩子们还进行分组表演,展示他们在此次夏令营中学习到的数学知识。有的孩子化身“小小老师”,有的孩子讲解逻辑规律,大家都自信又自豪地站在舞台上,闪亮而耀眼。

In addition, the children performed in groups to demonstrate the maths knowledge they had learnt during the camp. Some children were "little teachers", others explained the laws of logic, and all of them stood on the stage with confidence and pride, shining brightly.


在这短短五天的时间里,孩子们不仅收获了丰富的知识、有趣的体验,也提升了胆量和自信。相信这一次的夏令营对他们而言是一次很美好的回忆。

In these five days, our children have not only gained rich knowledge and interesting experiences but also developed courage and confidence. This summer camp experience will become a wonderful memory for them.
