亲爱的青苗家人：

春华秋实，夏菡冬韵，转眼我们迎来了充满希望的2022年。

2022开年最引人注目的盛事莫过于北京冬奥会了。冬奥会上，中国冬奥健儿不断突破自己，谷爱凌、苏翊鸣、任子威、武大靖等奥运健儿屡创佳绩，斩金夺银，让国人为之动容和骄傲。世界顶级赛场上强手如林，能够站在奥运领奖台上固然可喜，但更重要的是，通过参与比赛，展现奥运的精神风貌。谷爱凌自由式滑雪最后一跳挑战自己从未实现的1620，最后平稳落地，惊艳世界，她带给世界的是超越自我的勇敢；羽生结弦挑战前无古人的阿克塞尔四周跳，铩羽而归，同样留给世界无尽的感动。无惧失败、敢于挑战自己、不断超越自己是勇敢，是自信，是热爱，是运动健儿们带给我们的启迪与鼓舞。

面对冬奥健儿在赛场上的精彩表现，青色禾苗，你们是否也心潮澎拜呢？你们是否也有潜藏在自己心底的“小目标”呢？

作为青苗的园丁，我希望你们在冬奥健儿拼搏精神的激励下，围绕自己的“小目标”和青苗的“大目标”，勇毅笃行。希望你们内心的“高度”，不只是与别人比较，更要挑战自己的极限。在自我挑战的路上，把失败和犯错当成学习的一部分。英国前首相丘吉尔曾说：“人生的一大优势，就是尽早犯下能让人从中汲取教训的错误。”谷爱凌在她12岁时的演讲里也表示：“没有人的生活会是一帆风顺的，在小时候就锻炼出韧性是很重要的。这份经历让我更加顽强，教会我要拥抱生活中的挫折。”人生难免有起伏跌宕，有时也会论输赢。永不服输的人，顽强努力的人，生命往往更精彩！

命定的局限尽可永在，不屈的挑战却不可须臾或缺。追求属于自己的“高度”，依从自己内心所想，无畏前行。杨昌济先生曾说“自闭桃源称太古，欲栽大木柱长天”，我相信每一棵“青苗”学子都会长成超过自己预想的参天巨木！

Dear BIBS Family,

Time flies. We are now beginning a new adventure in the year 2022.

This winter at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, our brilliant athletes - including Eileen Gu, Su Yiming, Ren Ziwei, and Wu Dajing - perfectly embodied the Olympic spirit, and made all of us proud. But we never judge a hero by his success or failure alone. It’s certainly an outstanding achievement to win a competition against the world’s top athletes, but we must also not forget the true spirit of sports lies in enhancing skills and capabilities, and challenging one’s limits. In freestyle skiing, Eileen Gu brought us the 1620 jump, which she had never completed before. Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu attempted the axel quadruple jump without success, yet showed the world his unbridled love and passion for his career. With courage, confidence, and the desire to be better, everyone is a winner.

Little BIBSers, have the athletes encouraged you to set your own goals for the upcoming semester?

I hope the Olympic spirit inspires everyone at BIBS to set a goal for themselves. I hope your goal is to become a better version of yourself, and not to compare yourself with others. Face challenges, and learn from your mistakes. As the former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill once said: “One of the biggest advantages of life is to make mistakes early and learn from them.” Eileen Gu said in a speech she made when she was 12: “No one’s life is always easy, and it’s important to learn to be tough early. I’ve learned from my experience to be tenacious to face the challenges in my life.” So be persistent, and never give up.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Remember your spirit and desire will help you challenge your destiny and make changes. I wish every BIBS student a prosperous and successful 2022!
