As we approach May Holliday we sense a mood of refreshment and a strive of strong wrap-up for a good year. Last weekend we gathered around 50 students、faculty and parents for a five mile color run, we started as a group and finished as a group with loads of laughter. In good seasons like now in Beijing, we would highly recommend everyone going outdoor for a taste of spring and summer!

This week we also had our first PTA meeting of this semester, all members showed up and we discussed the items listed below, ie (revising our bylaws, advancement of the school, branding and marketing, ect), was a very productive meeting and we will start building junior division PTA as well.
Another key meeting that took place was the 11th grade parent info session in regards of college preparation, about 70% of their parents showed up and we shared news on college enrollment of this year, introduced new counselor and our program and timeline of this year. A key message we shared with parents are:
College is a new beginning, not an end. In this journey we need to encourage our children to discover their interests, explore the world, find the best possible connection between the two.
Parents need to make sure no absences should be allowed to take students from classes or sports or HTW, community engagement and health and sleep is key to their success at JPED and in life.
We will make sure summer offline/online study group/workshops are available bi-weekly to answer their questions and helping them along the way, so no need to stress out. A sense of urgency and time management is important, but stress can only cause harm over time. Last but not least, I think we need to enforce a better apparel policy and tech-use policy and everyone needs to act to implement them, so that we channel the best practices of pubic/private school system. All electronic devices should be kept away unless instructed by a faculty in class or at canteen and library. I’m sure everyone that signed up for JPED education (either student or parent)wants a pursue of excellence in life, and we have the people that cares enough to do so as well. Let’s keep pushing our limits and standing by our values! Have a splendid weekend everyone!
Mr.Pratt
They that sport doesn't train character, it reveals it. A cheat on the football pitch will be a cheat in life, and someone who plays for himself, rather than his team, will live like that when he walks back across the white line and into society. By contrast, a team-player, who gives her best to the game, and then congratulates and appreciates her opponents, and who respects fair play and integrity, will be the same person in the home or the workplace. For this reason, it has been a joy over this past two weeks to see our first two home basketball matches since the new arrangements, uniting BISS and JPED, came into being. K D Kuang and the seniors played a good game against stronger opposition last week and after being knocked back a little in the early phases, recovered and grew in strength and skill to finish as a better team than they started. Learning and growing through competition is a win, whatever the numbers on the scoreboard. This week, Ricky Xu led the juniors in a comfortable victory, playing with style and elegance and, enjoying the luxury of their strong lead, giving court-time to the full squad. On both occasions, there was strong support from across the community with junior division students and faculty supporting the seniors and the same in reverse the following week. This show of unity and pride in our new, integrated, community was uplifting and heart-warming. Thank you above all to Mr Pei and to Mr Daniel for all the work they do to make events like these happen.

This week we will get to have a look into the classroom of Ms Rolanda with her English students.
For English Foundation 1 this semester, our primary focus has been on listening and speaking. Last week we had our very first debate. A special acknowledgment goes to Sophie Chen, Iris Liang, and Chloe Wu, who graciously took on the roles of judges. Their guidance in introducing the debate's rules and offering invaluable instructions greatly enhanced the experience for all students. The topic of our debate centered around the impact of self-driving cars on human life, and it was an absolute delight to witness students apply the knowledge acquired from Unit 2 while discussing the merits and demerits. Not only did the students thoroughly enjoy the experience, but they also expressed a keen interest in having more such debates in the future. The advantages of engaging in debates are manifold; they foster critical thinking, enhance communication skills, promote teamwork, and encourage active participation, making them an indispensable part of our learning journey.

To achieve this goal, the class had been doingtheir cardboard design projects and it came to a bloom where students were able to create cardboard games like fusball, battle ship, model guns and many more.
These activities will not be in full bloom without the full support of Mr. Zhou and the rest of the students cooperation and undying resilients in doing their projects in class.
I hope for the students to finish their 3 cardboard design projects and start working on their final exam project. Their final exam project will be designing a remote control skateboard with some features ttto be added on each group. This project will be graded based on design, innovation and functionality.
I encourage the parents to keep on encouraging our future dreamers to keep on dreaming and make their dreams to a reality.
Art
As students continue to explore and refine their skills, their second project is now behind them. We begin our third project. Through this progression, we have witnessed their growth and dedication to their chosen medium. Each project presents a new set of challenges, pushing our students to think critically, experiment with techniques, and express their unique artistic visions. As they navigate these challenges, we are confident that their perseverance and creativity will result in work they will proudly showcase. Their individual styles and the depth of their artistic journey continues.

Head of High School Prep - Ms.Gu
In order to better understand the learning status of the children and their school life without affecting the normal class activities of the children and teachers, I joined various courses of the HSP grade. We have discovered many shining points among the children, and each student has their own areas of expertise. For example, some students excel in communication, helping others, listening attentively, showing empathy, leadership skills, sports, academic excellence, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration among others.
Through prolonged companionship and involvement in their daily lives, I believe it is crucial to discover the shining points of the children and accept their shortcomings, as everyone has weaknesses, and some weaknesses can actually contribute to a child's development. Therefore, what I would like to share is that as guides in the children's growth process, we can spend more time with them, communicate more with them, and pay more attention to their strengths, which can have a positive and constructive impact.
Head of Grade 9 - Mr.Peter
We would really like to thank the parents who came to attend the parent, teacher, and student meeting for grade 9 and 10 last week. It is really important to keep things consistent with the home life of students in their schooling. Communication is really useful so that students know and feel that they don't have two separate lives or two separate sets of rules. At the very least it was great to have conversations with teachers and parents alongside their sons or daughters to show that we are all in this together and supporting them toward a common goal. The midsemester hump is upon us and there is a short holiday for labour day, which for some couldn't come at a better time! We look forward to the refreshed faces coming back to school to finish up the last half of the semester.
Head of Grade 10 - Ms.Rolanda
In our recent parent-teacher meeting, we were thrilled to have the invaluable participation of both teachers and parents. A highlight of these two weeks was our college counseling class conducted by Ms. Anna. Her warm demeanor and insightful guidance introduced us to some tools and resources. We encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity by booking personalized 1-on-1 meetings with Ms. Anna. As our Grade 10 students swiftly transition into Grade 11, this pivotal period becomes a time of self-discovery, allowing them to explore their passions and identity. Engaging in conversations with Ms. Anna can be truly beneficial in this journey of self-exploration.
Head of Grade 11 - Mr.Kei
Hello Dear Parents and Grade 11s!
In the past fortnight, it has all been about college application process! Our new college counsellor Ms. Anna formally introduced herself and the grade 11s have now formally chosen their college mentors. On thursday we also asked our grade 11 parents to come in for a college prep organised presentation in which Founder Jing, Principal Pratt, Executive Principal Mo, and Ms. Anna were present to give details about the timeline and outline the services which will be provided by our college prep department.
While we head into the busy, and stressful season of applications, please keep remind the grade 11s to take some time to relax and recharge.
"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." Anne Lamott
Enjoy your May holiday everyone!
Head of Grade 12 - Mr.Zhou
The Grade 12 students are on a senior trip, which is one of the most important group activities for the whole grade before graduation. In this activity, it is very meaningful to enjoy the travel life and learn traditional Chinese culture and knowledge. I am very glad to see that people learn to tolerate each other, rely on each other, and adhere to the discipline of collective activities during this period. Some of them who were introverted began to become more outgoing, and the classmates communicated with each other more at a big table to talk more. The most important thing is that during this period, everyone had a lot of harvest and began to be mature.
Advisory
Mr.Kei
Hello Dear JPEDers,
I hope this message finds all of you happy and healthy! This past fortnight, the weather has been incredible, and almost every advisory group has been taking advantage of it by spending our advisory in the park. It is always a welcome break away from tumult of school life right in the middle of the week.
During our advisory sessions we have been continuing our exploration of perspective and each advisor has been trying out different methods tailored to their advisory groups, from trying out different activities like writing a diary entry from the perspective of thier friends to giving each other advice.

We held two basketball games on campus in the past two weeks. I'm very grateful to all the players, coaches, referees, opponents, as well as students, teachers and parents who cheered for us! One of them was our first home game in senior division. It's a pity that we lost this important game. But I think what's more important than winning is that I saw the growth of the players. Even when they lagged behind on the court, they didn't give up fighting and united as one. However, it was obvious that our opponents played better than us! I can see that every player is eager for this victory, but they may forget to enjoy this game and forget to enjoy the moments of cooperation and struggling with their teammates on the court. I really like the definition of success by UCLA's legendary basketball coach John Wooden: "Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming." I think that achieving these goals is more meaningful than winning a game!

The students of the Community Service group have made great contributions to the community environment through their own labor. They designed posters of their ideal communities through artistic creation - these posters will be displayed and promoted on Community Neighborhood Festival. What's more, they picked up and sorted garbage in the community parks through practical actions.
All these activities have been highly praised by community residents and leaders. Thanks a lot for these students' efforts!
