Principal's Office
Mr.Pratt
From my desk in my second floor office, the sound of the campus improvement works outside have kept me company all day. It is an exciting time as before our eyes, and in our ears, we are aware of change and improvement in the physical environment that we enjoy. This environment is important. To be among trees and to be aware of natural beauty, and to share our space with other creatures as we do, in the wild birds that are so busy at this time of year, and as we will with the domesticated animals the we anticipate and the fish that will populate the new pond, all brings a connection to something fundamental in our being. There is much talk in the education world about mental health and emotional wellness. One big response to these issues is a connection with the natural and the organic. There is a Latin phrase, rus in urbe, that is used to describe a little bit of the countryside in the city (note the roots to the English words 'rustic' and 'urban'). We are bringing that into reality right here, on the north third ring road.

Humanities
Languages and literature classes in JPED are a key part of the students' timetable and they work each week on improving their access to the English language. It is important for students to be able to understand and use English well across their subjects to not only communicate and understand their courses, but also to produce clear language in their assignments. Our English Foundations classes are key for building the skills to do this.
This week, our class focused on learningverbal phrases. Students were divided into three groups, each assigned a different type of verbal phrase to research and prepare an explanation for their classmates. After gathering examples and developing an understanding of the forms and functions, each group gave a short presentation aimed at helping their peers comprehend their assigned verbal phrase type.
Following the initial presentations, students were randomly reassigned to new groups covering different verbal phrase styles. Drawing upon their earlier learningfrom their peers, they gave a second round of presentations, further solidifying their grasp of the concepts through explanation and example sentences.
Although some struggled to articulate the nuances, the listener's questions and the experience of alternating between the roles of lecturer and learnerwereinvaluable. We then reviewed the various verbal phrases as a class, reinforcing the distinctions between each type.
Next week, students will apply verbal phrases as they write opinion essays on the topic: "What are the most effective ways to learn a foreign language?
STEM
All the stem department teachers are working on an in-class project, which will lead students to better understand class content and apply it to real-world problems. In this stage, teachers will help students finish the publication of a scientific journal before the end of the semester.
DT is a course designs to develop students' hands-on skills, where students need to reflect on problem-solving skills, learn to communicate with others, and enjoy completing projects. In this class, they are building their own go-kart that will be able to drive around our campus. This is what many students are looking forward to. In addition, the Grade 9 students also enjoyed the board games they designed.
With the help of Dr. Shiva who sourced some economical new lab equipment, our students will be able to obtain hands-on experience using some equipment that are staples of Biology and Chemistry labs. We have some heating equipment, a temperature controlled centrifuge, a smaller sized centrifuge, a heating mantle, water bath, and a UV-Visible Spectrometer. Not only will this help to increase ties between lectures to experiments and real-world applications, but we will be able to do some cool experiments as well! Dr. Shiva has been sharing his experience with Biological analytical processes for DNA extraction with Biology students.
Art
Our students are starting their third project, building on what they learned from the first two. As teachers, we get to watch them grow as artists, develop their own styles, and become more confident. Their hard work, creativity, and willingness to try new things are impressive. We know their third project will showcase their talents and be something they're proud of. We're excited to help them as they continue their artistic journey and can't wait to see where it takes them.

Hello Dear Parents,
In the last two weeks since the last newsletter, we have launched the Anti-Social Behaviour Outcomes (ASBOs) for short. The ASBO system is a 15-point plan designed to address
low-level, persistently disruptive behaviours and promote a positive learning environment for
all students.
How it Works
The ASBO system focuses on early intervention for minor behavioural issues. Teachers will
document level 1 infractions like swearing or littering using the WeCom system. The severity
of the infraction will determine the number of points assigned (1, 2, or 3).
Parents will be contacted when/if a student reaches 5 – points and 10 points.
Reaching a total of 15 points will trigger a Level 2 or 3 response (refer to the JPED Behavior
Education Plan), which will involve parental contact, suspension, behavioural intervention.
This consequence is meant to be a corrective measure to help students improve their behaviour.
What Behaviours Does it Address?
The ASBO system covers a range of level 1 infractions outlined in The JPED Behaviour
Education Plan, including, but not limited to:
• Disruptive/Uncooperative behaviour
• Disrespectful/Discourteous behaviour
• Inappropriate language/expressions
• Littering
• Dishonesty
• Other
In what situations can ASBOs be given?
All school rules apply any time a student is on campus or on a school organised outing/event.
Who can give ASBOs?
Any and all teachers, as well as staff.
Benefits
• Early intervention: Addresses minor issues before they escalate into bigger problems.
• Clear expectations: Students understand the consequences of their actions.
• Consistent approach: Ensures fair and consistent application of behavioural
expectations across all classrooms.
• Positive environment: Promotes a respectful and focused learning environment for
all.

On May 13th, we held a meeting for HSP parents to introduce the curriculum arrangement and excellent teachers team for grade eight students for next semester. Parents actively communicated with teachers about the transition preparation for entering high school.
Head of Grade 9 - Mr.Peter
Over the last two weeks there has been a greater focus on the smaller concerns in and around school. Students must be reminded of the things that create a good environment for learning, and a positive place to be in, so we have been bringing attention to negative behaviour that is addressed but in a more formal manner. Use of devices, innapropriate language, lack of respect for others, and general following of school rules has been brought to the forefront for Grade 9 students with so many of us being here in our first or second semester at JPED. Toward the end of the semester some of these things begin to slip or are being tested. Grades and overall attendance are the base needs for students to do well in school but the environment they exist in really makes or breaks that drive to succeed. Rest assured that we are working to encourage positive behaviour while bringing attention to the little things that often don't get the attention they deserve!
Head of Grade 10 - Ms.Rolanda
With the launch of the new ASBO system, we've identified some common small problems, which is actually a positive step. By pinpointing these issues, we can begin to address them effectively.
This Tuesday, we held our first college counseling meeting for parents. I understand that many students and parents are feeling anxious about the college application process. Learning more about the actual requirements and dispelling common myths can greatly reduce anxiety and uncertainty. Therefore, I warmly invite all parents to actively participate in our future meetings.
Have a great weekend!
Head of Grade 11 - Mr.Kei
It was wonderful to see all you come in for the Parent-Teachers-Student meetings!
As we approach the end of the school year, the grade 11s have been working hard and a lot of them were away during this fortnight working on their university applications by taking part in competitions as well as AP exams. We are now entering the crucial time of the semester when all of the projects and coursework are being finished off. It is important to focus and get work-hard.
Head of Grade 12 - Mr.Zhou

In the past two weeks, our sports classes have always played a crucial role in helping students keep fit and healthy. Through a variety of sports games, all the students have had opportunities to participate and succeed in the classes. They all have a good time with their coaches.
On May 12th, our basketball varsity team had two games with Haidian Waiguoyu School and Xin Yingcai School. All the players tried their best and they displayed great teamwork. Our founder Jin came to watch the games and gave some words to our players to encourage them to play their best.

Respecting and caring for the elderly program, has been an excellent traditional activity maintained by our school's students for a long time. Since moving to the Anzhen campus, every Wednesday afternoon during HTW class time, a group of students go to the community nursing home to bring joy and companionship to elders.
In recent weeks, our students have learned about the preferences of the elderly through their own interview and research, and have organized and planned multiple meaningful activities for the elders‘ special situations, such as playing chess, cards, magic show, talent show, etc., which have been highly praised by the elderly and nursing home managers. It is worth noting that yesterday, after our students' performance, an elder who loves Peking Opera also performed his own show for the kids, which was really meaningful.
Meanwhile, during the process of volunteering, students truly cultivate their empathy and pay more attention to family relationship.
Thank you for their efforts!
