比如,在全校诸多师长的精心指导下,于模拟答辩中反复演练、师生合力冲刺时的那股劲头和温馨;
当第一次走到清华大学西门,看到游客们只能于门外游览拍照,自己却可直接刷卡进入时的那份快感和荣耀;
当赛后幸运地拿到丘成桐老先生现场签名时的那份激动和喜悦;
晚宴中与答辩时的教授们轻松交流,获得教授们高度肯定时的那份欣慰和满足;
与其他优秀参赛队伍中的青年学子互换微信时的那份愉悦和惺惺相惜;
当周静函站于获奖感言分享中,大方走到台前感谢学校倾心培养的所有老师,并掷地有声地大声说道:“王府学校还有很多新生力量,来年还会再回赛场”时的自信和豪情;
……
This year marks the second consecutive year that BRS has won an award in biology at the international finals of the 2024 Shing-Tung Yau High School Award. The Shing-Tung Yau High School Award, a highly prestigious award and rigorous competition, is known as the "Nobel Prize for Chinese Youth". It is a testament to our pursuit of academic excellence and the quality of education our students receive at BRS.
Even though the competition is over, when we interviewed the three 17-year-old Year 11 students who won this year's awards, we were surprised by something unexpected - they hadn't even started their formal studies of biology before entering the competition.
What gives them the courage to take on such a challenge, especially when that challenge is once again a fight for the defense of honor? The story may begin after last year's award.
Zhou Jinghan, who was in her first year of high school at the time, was inspired to take up the mantle when she heard that her BRS seniors had won the 2023 Shing-Tung Yau Global Award. She immediately had the right teammates in mind - Tao Chengxi, who had scored over 100 points on the TOEFL in his first year of high school, and Wang Haoyu, a typical straight-A student who had won many chemistry competitions. Zhou Jinghan believed that her leadership skills, developed through her roles as student council president and class president, would give the small team a number of advantages.
The three students had a bittersweet experience during their year-long preparation for and participation in the competition. In preparation, the three students learned various professional skills, including soil grinding, anatomy, experimentation, soil science, microbiology, ecology and chemical analysis. During the competition, they experienced memorable moments such as being recognized by the judges and professors, competing with high calibre teams, and making great strides in academic strength, communication, teamwork and English language skills.
Reflecting on this journey, Zhou Jinghan said, "It is the school's combined Chinese and Western cultivation that has prepared me well to become a more versatile person, and I like myself very much now"; Tao Chengxi felt strongly that he had made significant progress in his mindset, "In the research process, we really have to face mistakes positively, and very often mistakes can be the beginning of new ideas". Wang Haoyu has a deeper understanding of his own weaknesses in academic ability and a firmer belief in his own aspirations: "When I saw the beaker in the lab of BRS graduate Lu Zhirou, who is currently studying at Cambridge, I felt that the engine of my dream had already accelerated.
