Each morning, I stand at the main gate of either our Primary School or our Secondary School and greet students as they arrive. I always ask “How are you?”
About half the time, on both campuses, the answer students give is “Happy!”
Schools should be joyful. Students should love coming to school, should love their teachers, should love their classes.
Last weekend, HDBJ's Jinzhan campus had the honor to host Elite K-12 Education Group's Positive Education Leader Training with over 150 attendees from all 5 HD Schools around the country. The training was organized by the Elite K-12 Moral Education and Psychological Health Research Institute to cultivate a core team to bring the concepts of positive education back to their campuses.
Based on University of Pennsylvania professor Martin Seligman's pioneering work in positive psychology, HD schools apply the PERMASH model with our communities:
Positive Emotion – How do I relate to my emotions?
Engagement – How do I manage time/stress and enjoy flow?
Relationships – How do I build high-quality connections?
Meaning – Why do I learn? Where am I going?
Accomplishment – How do I welcome challenges and celebrate growth?
Self-cognition – Who am I? What are my strengths?
Health – How do I maintain physical and mental harmony?

Innumerable studies demonstrate that human brains function better when happy. This is true for children and for adults, for the school environment and for the work environment, for college and for career.
I feel this viscerally every day. Both campuses of HDBJ School are joyful places. Students are safe, engaged, and happy. This a gift to savor.

每天早上，我都会站在小学部或中学部的校门口，迎接来上学的孩子们。我常问他们：“你今天感觉如何？”
两个校区一多半的孩子都会回答：“开心！”
学校就应该是快乐的。孩子们理应喜欢上学，喜欢老师，喜欢课堂。
上周末，北京赫德金盏校区很荣幸地承办了“义格K12教育集团积极教育骨干教师培训”，全国5所赫德学校的150多位老师齐聚。这次培训由义格K12德育与心理健康教育研究院主办，希望培养骨干教师，把积极教育的理念带回各自的学校。
赫德学校借鉴了宾夕法尼亚大学马丁·塞利格曼教授在积极心理学方面的开创性研究，在校园里推行了PERMASH模型：
积极情绪(Positive Emotion) —— 我该怎么面对自己的情绪？
投入专注(Engagement) —— 我如何管理时间和压力，享受心流？
人际关系(Relationships) —— 我如何建立高质量的关系？
意义感(Meaning) —— 我为什么学习？我要去哪儿？
成就感(Accomplishment) —— 我如何迎接挑战、庆祝成长？
自我认知(Self-cognition) —— 我是谁？我有什么优势？
身心健康(Health) —— 我如何保持身心和谐？

数不清的研究都表明，人心情好的时候，大脑运转得更灵光。不管对孩子还是大人，在学校还是职场，读大学还是拼事业，都是这个道理。
我每天都能真真切切地感受到这一点。北京赫德的两个校区都充满了快乐。孩子们在这里感到安全、投入、开心。这是一份值得好好品味的礼物。
