With only about 30 days left until school starts, how can we use this golden summer time to teach children to read, make them fall in love with reading, and develop reading habits? The best answer lies within the summer holiday assignment from the Chengdu Montpellier Inter national School (referred to as "MIS") - summer book list.
The Chinese book list is curated by AJian, an independent children's reading advocate and lecturer for Chengdu Shuyu Public Welfare. With over ten years of experience in promoting children's reading, AJian has created library book lists for hundreds of schools and kindergartens nationwide and has conducted numerous parent and teacher reading training sessions. The English book list, on the other hand, has been carefully designed and customized by the experienced English teaching team at MIS through multiple discussions and special considerations. Both book lists are scientifically developed based on different grades and proficiency levels to ensure the quality and suitability of the books.
The summer book list includes picture books, fairy tales, novels, popular science readings, stories, poems, etc. For example, from the preschool level, there is "A Trip to the Outskirts: Our Nature Exploration Journey" and "Chicka Chicka ABC," to the P4 with "Wow, Plants are So Magical!" and M2 with "Exploring the Universe with Hawking." From P1 there are "Samuel's Transformation Diary" and "The Perfect Nest," to P5 with "Rodari's Theater Paradise" and "A Wrinkle in Time," and to M1 with "Born Guilty: Truva's Autobiography." From the preschool level, there are "The Little Mouse is Angry" and "Pete the Cat's Super Cool," to P2 with "A Very Impatient Caterpillar" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and to M1 with "We're Poor but Cheerful, So Don't Worry." These books not only satisfy children's diverse reading needs at different stages but also form a series that cultivates their imagination, thinking skills, and emotional management abilities. The rich knowledge and vocabulary in geography, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, etc. become a treasure for children and play a crucial role in their future learning lives.
At the same time, MIS advocates for collaboration between home and school to create a positive family learning atmosphere during the summer vacation and to accompany students in their growth. MIS has also carefully prepared a parent reading recommendations, hoping that parents and children can read together and grow together.
In addition, in order to motivate children to participate more actively and experience the joy and sense of achievement in reading, MIS has launched a reading check-in activity. Based on their reading progress during the summer vacation, children can exchange corresponding points and beautiful gifts at the beginning of the new school year.
