In the scorching August, Montpellier International School in Chengdu (MIS) proudly announces a major appointment! After going through 10 months of numerous educational philosophy discussions, the experienced G. David Rath, Ph.D. (Dr. Rath), has emerged as the standout candidate from nearly a hundred applicants from both domestic and international backgrounds, officially taking on the role of Vice Principal at MIS, responsible for academic and faculty management.

Part.1

How difficult is it to be appointed as the foreign principal at MIS with five key competencies?

"Principal leadership" is the key to the future development of a school, and the importance of an excellent foreign academic principal for an international school is self-evident. At MIS, the foreign principal should possess five key competencies:

Cross-cultural background and experience

Having rich cross-cultural background and experience is crucial in understanding and addressing the differences between cultures. This will contribute to promoting the international development of the school and enable better communication and collaboration with students, faculty, and families from different countries and regions.

Educational expertise and experience

Possessing strong educational knowledge and extensive experience ensures the quality of instruction and the achievement of educational goals in the school. The foreign principal should be familiar with the latest trends and best practices in international education to lead the school toward an international educational path.

Leadership ability and management experience

Excellent leadership abilities and management experience are necessary to effectively organize and manage various departments and functions of the school, ensuring the smooth operation of all activities. The foreign principal needs to develop and implement the school's development strategies while inspiring the potential and enthusiasm of the faculty.

International recognition and network resources

Having a certain level of recognition and visibility in the international education field contributes to enhancing the school's reputation and attracting more students and faculty from around the world. Additionally, the foreign principal should have a wide network and collaborative partnerships to introduce international cooperation and resources to the school.

Language proficiency

Having good language skills to fluently use the school's medium of instruction and effectively communicate with students, faculty, and parents is essential. Furthermore, a passion for and dedication to the field of education is necessary.

Overall, the selection of an excellent foreign principal will have a significant impact on the school's development and the education of its students, and MIS takes this matter very seriously.

Part.2

How outstanding does a foreign principal have to be to stand out?

G. David Rath, a Ph.D. in cross-cultural education, an outstanding achievement teacher in the United States, and the recipient of the first batch of ESL English teaching certification from the China Foreign Experts Bureau, has served as an academic principal or principal at well-known international schools in Beijing, Qingdao, and other cities. He has also been an academic director at the Irvine campus of Concordia University and the academic director at Southern Arkansas University in the United States. With over 30 years of international teaching and management experience, cross-cultural teaching experience, and unique founding school experiences, Dr. Rath has developed outstanding teaching abilities, academic abilities, management abilities, and communication abilities. He also keeps professionally sensitive to the latest trends and best practices in international education and possesses a global perspective, critical thinking, and innovation spirit.

Dr. Rath is skilled at identifying issues in practical research and providing professional thoughts and suggestions based on his own experiences and professional characteristics. Over the years, he has continuously provided professional and wise support to publishing houses, actively participating in the publication of numerous high-quality educational books. Additionally, he has contributed a new theory called the Cross-Cultural Renaissance Movement (CCRM) in the field of sociological research, which provides important insights into the socialization of education, religion, and politics.

Dr. Rath's works have been published in many world-renowned newspapers and magazines, including "Let's Talk in English", "Studio Classroom", CELEA News, Living Hands Network, and "World Journal of English Language". Among them, articles such as "Teaching the Past Perfect: A Comparison of Two Approaches", "Comparing Followership with servant leadership", and "From India to English" have received wide acclaim.

Furthermore, Dr. Rath has conducted hundreds of training sessions and lectures on curriculum planning, growth mindset, cross-cultural issues, and language at education and teacher training conferences held at Concordia University Irvine, California State University, and various locations in China, including Beijing, Qingdao, and other cities. He has been widely welcomed and appreciated by the audience.

How about it? Are you as excited as me about having such an outstanding foreign principal?

Part.3

What does this "mutual understanding" across 15 time zones over 10 months mean?

It is understood that MIS has collected and received resumes from nearly 100 foreign international education elites worldwide, interviewed more than 30 candidates, and then Dr. Rath and other five candidates had multiple clashes of educational ideas with the president of the MIE Group, the MIS School Board, and the teaching team. Finally, Dr. Rath was invited to serve as the foreign principal of MIS, responsible for academic and faculty management. The cooperation between the two parties spanned 15 time zones and took 10 months before and after reaching an agreement.

Dr. Rath admitted, "Choosing Chengdu and choosing MIS is the best choice for my work and life pursuits." Starting work in China in 1990, with his wife being Chinese, Dr. Rath has been deeply impressed by Chinese culture and has his understanding and practice of the integration of Chinese and Western education. Chengdu, the "rumored" popular city, with its excellent ancient cultural sites, beautiful and colorful landscapes, open and inclusive humanities, explosive Sichuan cuisine, and the educationally strong MIS (previously extensively introduced by the author, for details see: Global citizens and future leaders who will be globally competent and lifelong learners.), deeply attracts Dr. Rath. He even regards this cooperation as the final battle of his career.

Similarly, during this period, Dr. Rath fully demonstrated his professionalism, leadership abilities, and cross-cultural communication skills, conveying a positive, open, and innovative educational philosophy to MIS. The MIS management and teaching team fully recognize him. With the addition of Dr. Rath, it is believed that the potential and motivation of the faculty will be unleashed, the international teaching strength will qualitatively leap forward, and all parties of the school will establish and maintain a good relationship, striving to create an inclusive and harmonious environment for the multicultural school.

Part.4

What will a student-centered MIS bring to you and your child?

Under the guidance of the five educational principles of "Holistic Education, Personalized Caring, Intellectual Diversity, Elite Cultivation, Global Community" at MIS, Dr. Rath will lead the implementation of five educational management principles.

Schools should prepare students with 21st Century Skills for success in our rapidly changing world.

Dr. Rath believes that the mission of a school is to cultivate students with skills that will prepare them for the future, such as creativity, critical thinking, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. He will encourage teachers to use innovative teaching methods and the latest technological tools to ensure that students can adapt and succeed in this rapidly changing world.

Every student can be successful.

Dr. Rath firmly believes that every student has the potential to succeed, regardless of their background, abilities, or interests. He will support and encourage the adoption of personalized teaching methods by the school’s faculty and staff to meet the needs of each student and ignite their passion for learning. By providing support and resources, he and MIS are committed to ensuring that every student can achieve success and pave the way for their future.

Though it can be difficult, learning should be collaborative and fun.

Dr. Rath emphasizes the importance of collaboration and fun in the process of learning. He encourages students to collaborate on projects and tasks to develop their social skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. He advocates for cooperation among teachers, fostering collective exploration and implementation of curriculum and teaching methods. At the same time, he believes that cooperation with parents and the community is key to success, welcoming their ideas, collaboration, and support.

The teacher’s role is to empower every student to enjoy learning. So classrooms are student-centered, not teacher centered.

Dr. Rath believes that the role of teachers is to ensure that every student enjoys the process of learning. He encourages teachers to adopt student-centered teaching methods that focus on students' needs, interests, and learning styles. The principal will support teachers in providing personalized learning opportunities for students and creating a positive learning environment to stimulate their curiosity and proactivity.

As principal, my role is to empower students and teachers to be very, very successful.

As the principal, Dr. Rath's responsibility is to ensure extraordinary success for both teachers and students. He and MIS are committed to establishing a school culture that encourages innovation and growth, elevating the professional capabilities of teachers to a new and higher level through support and training. He will work with the faculty and staff to develop strategic goals and action plans to ensure that the school achieves exceptional outcomes and creates an exciting and successful learning environment for students and teachers.

What surprises and breakthroughs will Dr. Rath bring? Let us look forward to the reunion in the golden autumn and witness together.
