MIS is a community of exploration and openness, using open teaching methods and prioritizing the development of students' abilities. With the IB mindset, MIS students are knowledgeable and well-versed in communication and self-reflection, placing importance on their character development along with their academic pursuits. They approach learning with curiosity and a spirit of inquiry, following social etiquette and possessing the ability to collaborate with others. MIS students maintain individualized development in their learning processes, exploring the essence of things, reasoning, and substantiating arguments, and deepening their knowledge through various forms of discovery, investigation, and research methods. They apply their academic knowledge to practical situations; MIS students' learning process is a self-exploration and self-actualization process.

 How do MISers learn?

 Let's take a look at

 the highlights of last week.

Address by the Principal from the MIS Weekly Midday Assembly

Date:October 7

Message from Principal Ms. Alice

Facing Competition with Positive Outlook

Dear students, I hope you have had an enjoyable and fulfilling break and have gained something from it!

In the upcoming October, we will spend a wonderful time together on the MIS campus. This month, you will start by focusing on your own safety and well-being, participating in the campus fire emergency evacuation drill and vision screening. Meanwhile, you will gain knowledge and joy through exploring activities related to Chongyang Festival and Halloween. You will also face competition and gain more in events such as the MIS House Sports Meet, Student Union Election, MIS English Spelling Bee, Chinese Debate Competition, and the campus radio station member recruitment.

In addition, we will also welcome the IB Theme Course Day. Of course, November will be the MIS midterm comprehensive assessment month. The academic development of MIS students, as well as their physical and mental health, various interests, and skills development, are always our most important goals. Teachers across the entire campus encourage you to actively participate in various school and community activities, striving to develop your leadership and teamwork skills. We believe that every MIS student will face challenges with a positive attitude and achieve their goals through their own continuous efforts and progress! Do not fear competition; competition will bring more positive significance to your life!

Purpose of Competition and Principles to Follow

The purpose of competition is not to defeat others but to surpass oneself. MIS students are encouraged to set personal goals and compare their progress with their past selves. The process of challenging yourself and the gains you gain from it are more important than the results;

Emphasize Cooperation and Collaboration: Competition does not mean excluding cooperation. MIS students are encouraged to collaborate with others to achieve common goals. You will understand that competition is not about competing alone for victory but working together to bring better results for everyone;

Leverage Your Unique Strengths: The entire faculty believes that every MIS student has their own talents and expertise. You are encouraged to develop and discover your talents. Competition is not only limited to academic fields but also includes sports, the arts, social interaction, and other aspects;

Adhere to the Values of Fair Competition: Success is not achieved through improper means or bullying others. Respect others' efforts and success, and maintain your kindness and moral principles. MIS students need to remember at all times that only through fair competition can we truly achieve sustainable success and build positive and healthy interpersonal relationships. By following the values of fair competition, we will be able to achieve personal success while creating positive impacts on the MIS community and society.

Success and Failure Are Opportunities: Failure does not mean personal failure but an opportunity to learn. MIS students are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, develop resilience, and reflect on their abilities;

Establish the Correct Competition Mindset: Competition is a part of interpersonal relationships, but not the entirety of our lives. Each MIS student needs to understand that competition should not affect their self-esteem and happiness. Encourage yourself to have your own interests, pursue inner happiness and a sense of satisfaction. Our own daily progress is a kind of success, which has nothing to do with others!

What mindset should we adopt to face competition and achieve success?

First, it is important to understand two important factors: ability and luck. Ability is something that we can control ourselves, while luck is not fully under our control. Ability is something that we gain through our own efforts, which can help us be more capable of facing challenges. Luck, on the other hand, is unpredictable and out of our control, but it can provide us with opportunities and assistance. When we have the ability to seize opportunities and make good use of luck, we can better embrace success.

How can we accumulate our ability?

Ability is gained through continuous learning, accumulating experience, and constantly improving oneself. The ability of MIS students comes from various aspects, not just academic performance. Sports, social skills, interests, hobbies, altruistic spirit, and other aspects are also important. The ability allows us to stand out in competition and enables us to be more confident in facing various challenges and difficulties. By continuously working to improve our skills and knowledge, we can enhance our ability and increase our chances of success.

Does luck play a role in competition?

However, we cannot ignore the role of luck in success. Sometimes, good luck can bring us unexpected opportunities or benefits. In a highly competitive environment, certain serendipitous or lucky events may influence a person's success. These may include encountering opportunities that perfectly fit our abilities, encountering important people who support and help us, or unexpected successful opportunities. Luck is a factor that cannot be completely controlled, and it may bring unexpected success or failure. It is important to remember that success is often a combination of ability and luck. For those who rely only on luck or only on ability, success may be difficult to sustain.

Ability is something that we gain through our own efforts, which can help us be more capable of facing challenges. Luck, on the other hand, is unpredictable and out of our control, but it can provide us with opportunities and assistance. When we have the ability to seize opportunities and make good use of luck, we can better embrace success. By working hard to improve our skills and knowledge, maintaining a positive mindset, and seizing the opportunities luck provides, we can better move towards success. Each person's path to success is unique, and it is about what we do to balance the two factors of ability and luck. I hope you will dare to try and accept various challenges, adhere to your beliefs and believe in your abilities, persevere unremittingly, and bravely participate in competition to strive for success!

Finally, let's talk about the positive significance of competition.

Philosophical Story: "Two Sculptors".

Do not be complacent with success, do not be discouraged by failure, enjoy the process of competition, treat competition seriously, and summarize the experience and reasons for success and failure. The competition outcome is less significant!

Competition is not just about winning or losing, nor is it about excluding or replacing others. It is about demonstrating your uniqueness and creativity. The positive significance of competition is to better understand and respect the talents and gifts of others, to learn to appreciate and respect others, and to inspire mutual growth and progress through competition. The true philosophy of competition is built on cooperation, respect, and common growth. I hope that every student at MIS can find their own value and significance in competition.

Rhythm in Learning and Living

Dear students, I hope you have had a pleasant holiday! Welcome back to the beautiful campus of MIS!

Today, we will learn about rhythm together. Please raise your hands above your head and applaud with me. You have all done well! Our learning and life should have rhythm, so that our studies, rest, and entertainment are balanced. Everyone needs to learn to master this balance and rhythm to maintain good physical and mental health and develop their full potential.

Firstly, learning is your primary task, and it is also your fundamental purpose of being in school. It is everyone's responsibility to study hard and strive for excellence. We encourage you to develop a reasonable study plan, allocate time and energy appropriately, and ensure efficient and effective learning. Find study methods and techniques that work for you and develop good study habits.

Remember that learning is not only for achieving good grades but also for developing critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and accumulating knowledge reserves, which will have a profound impact on your future development.

Meanwhile, we also call on you to arrange rest and entertainment time reasonably. Rest not only helps you regain energy but is also an important means of maintaining physical and mental health. In your busy studies, you may wish to arrange some appropriate rest activities, such as taking a walk, listening to music, communicating with friends, etc., to relax both your body and mind. In addition, participate in some entertainment activities that interest you, such as sports, reading, painting, etc., to enrich your life and cultivate your interests. Good rest and entertainment can promote flexible thinking and creativity and have a positive impact on improving learning.

The important thing is that to master the rhythm of learning, rest, and entertainment well, you also need to incorporate these rhythms into your daily schedule. Everyone's situation and needs are different, so it is necessary to develop a schedule that suits you based on your actual situation. Do not blindly pursue perfection but focus on balance and the long-term interests of your own development. While ensuring learning progress, you should also give yourself enough time and space for rest and entertainment. Only by mastering this balance can you persist in your studies and achieve better results.

Finally, we believe that you can do it. Through a good rhythm of learning, rest, and entertainment, you will achieve more success and happiness, and develop into lifelong individuals who will benefit from it. We are here to support you and look forward to witnessing your growth and success.

I wish you a balanced, enjoyable, and fruitful rhythm in your learning, rest, and entertainment!

Part.1

P1 UOI Dance Class

In P1 dance class, children have made significant improvements in both standing and sitting postures. They have learned to maintain correct posture with chest out and back straight, laying a good foundation for cultivating elegant physiques. Through practicing basic movements such as pressing the hips and stretching the legs, children have further explored and developed the flexibility of their bodies.

Through practicing basic movements such as pressing the hips and stretching the legs, children have further explored and developed the flexibility of their bodies. This week's dance class focused on training physical agility and coordination. Children felt the rhythm of the music through patterned movements, and every child participated actively in their own way. They synchronized with the beat of the music, moving their bodies with grace, demonstrating the spontaneity of their poses. This not only helps to cultivate children's musical perception but also improves their motor coordination and sense of space. Through dance training, we hope to discover more of children's performing talents. Each child has their own unique characteristics and potential, and dance classes provide an opportunity for them to showcase their individuality and talent. We encourage children to express themselves boldly, using dance to demonstrate their personality and creativity.

At the same time, dance is also an art form that requires teamwork, and children have learned to cooperate and collaborate with each other in class to create wonderful dance performances. Through dance class, we hope that children will not only enjoy the joy and confidence that dance brings but also cultivate their love for the arts and pursue them. Dance is not only an artistic expression but also a training of the body and soul that contributes to children's overall development and personal growth. We look forward to children blooming on future stages and demonstrating their dance charm.

Part.2

P2 IB-UOI Class

Through this week's UOI course, we guide children to reflect on family member responsibilities and delve deeper into the topic. With the help of books, picture books, and videos, we encourage students to consider how "mom and dad" express love to "me".

They discovered various ways in different stories and thus understood how parents love them selflessly. Students also shared and discussed how everyone in the family expresses love in different ways but with no expectation of anything in return.

To further understand the roles of dad and mom, children took on the roles of "dad" or "mom" to protect their own egg babies. They used colorful pens to "dress up" for it, carefully picked a unique name, built a warm and cozy home for it, and gave it meticulous care. During the activity, students needed to carry their egg babies with them everywhere, and if the egg was intact at the end of the week, the challenge was successfully completed.

Through this activity, students deeply felt the hard work and effort their parents have made for them. They realized that everyone in the family needs to take care of each other and shoulder their own responsibilities. At the same time, children also learned to pay attention to and respect others, especially the responsibilities and efforts borne by family members.

Through this topic exploration, we hope that students can better understand and cherish their family's love, and gradually understand that everyone has their own responsibilities and importance in the family. We believe that through such learning and experiencing, children will become people who are more aware of caring for and respecting others, and make positive contributions to the harmonious development of their families and communities.

Part.3

P3 UOI Dance Class

In the recent dance classes, we introduced P3 students to the Polka folk dance music, which sparked their strong interest and enthusiasm for lively and jolly dance music.

In the previous classes, we focused on teaching single-leg bounces and slides, and the overall performance of the children was quite outstanding. Most students were able to accurately follow the rhythm of the music and complete the movements, although a few students needed to further standardize their movements.

To enhance the effectiveness of the class, we adopted a group interaction approach, allowing the children to assist each other, which achieved good results in promoting their learning and cooperation awareness. Children actively participate in every aspect of the class, injecting positive energy and vitality into the classroom.

In the next two weeks, we plan to gradually introduce elements of forward, backward, and rotation based on single-leg bounces to form complete Polka steps. These new movements require a certain amount of ankle strength for the children, so we also conducted ankle strength enhancement exercises in class, including standing half-toe exercises and toe steps. At the same time, we encourage children to review and consolidate the movements learned during class time to deepen their understanding and mastery of Polka dance. This dance course is full of fun and challenges, and we look forward to continuously observing the children's progress and growth in future classes.

We believe that through continuous practice and exploration, the children will be able to better master the techniques and expression methods of Polka dance, demonstrating a higher level of dance performance ability. We also hope that this dance course, will inspire children's love and passion for dance art, and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents and self-confidence.

Part.4

P4 UOI Sports Class

In this week's physical education class, P4 students practiced basic gymnastics movements such as horse jumps, front rolls, and side handsprints. Through classroom exercises, students mastered the essentials of these basic gymnastics movements, learning correct techniques and methods of body coordination.

Gymnastics training not only aims to develop students' physical fitness but also focuses on improving their coordination, balance, and flexibility, and promoting the concept of overall development. Through gymnastics training, students gain a deeper understanding of their basic physical conditions and athletic performance. Through continuous practice, they improve their basic gymnastics skills, cultivate teamwork ability, and develop a sense of collective honor. In class, students encourage each other and help each other to overcome difficulties and challenges. This spirit of cooperation not only helps them achieve better results in gymnastics training but also cultivates important qualities in team cooperation.

Gymnastics training can also develop students' imagination and creativity. Through continuous experimentation and exploration, students can stimulate their inner creative potential and apply it to the performance and variation of movements. In the process of learning gymnastics movements, students not only practice physical flexibility and strength but also have the freedom to showcase their individuality and talent.

In addition to technical progress, gymnastics training will benefit students to establish self-confidence and intrinsic motivation for learning. In class, students improve their coordination ability and motor performance by learning correct postures and force techniques. This sense of achievement and experience of progress is very important for students to establish self-confidence and a positive learning attitude. In summary, gymnastics training plays an important role in Chinese physical education courses.

Through gymnastics training, students can not only enhance physical fitness but also cultivate various abilities such as coordination, teamwork, and creativity. We believe that through continuous gymnastics training, students will be able to experience the joy of movement, constantly challenge themselves, and achieve personal growth and development.

Part.5

P5 UOI Sports Class

This week, in addition to typical fitness guidance, we will also learn basketball. We will focus on learning the correct techniques for basic basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Learning correct dribbling techniques is the foundation of basketball, while accurate passing and shooting abilities are essential skills for team cooperation. Through careful study and practice of these basic skills, students will be able to improve their basketball techniques and become more competitive in games.

To assist our sports-specific guidance, we will engage in sports activities that require balance, communication, cooperation, and quick decision-making. Balance is an important physical control skill, especially for basketball, as it involves frequent fast turns and changes in direction. Through balance training, students can improve their body stability and coordination, allowing them to better respond to changes on the court. At the same time, basketball is a sport that requires teamwork, and students will improve their communication skills and collective awareness through cooperation with teammates to perform passing and coordinated movements. Quick decision-making is crucial in basketball games, and students will improve their reaction speed and decision-making ability through training and practice to take wise and timely actions on the court.

Basketball not only improves students' physical fitness but also helps to cultivate their team spirit and leadership abilities. Through basketball training, students learn cooperation, communication, and mutual dependence, further strengthening their sense of collective honor and belonging. In addition, basketball can also comprehensively train students' physical qualities, including endurance, speed, agility, and explosive power. This not only helps students perform well on the basketball court but also improves their overall health level, making them healthier and more positive people.

Through basketball, we can not only improve students' technical and physical abilities but also cultivate their leadership and team awareness. We believe that the advantages cultivated through basketball training will deeply affect students' growth and development. We encourage students to maintain positive exercise habits after class, continue to develop their basketball potential, and fully demonstrate the skills and spirit they have learned in future games and life.

Part.6

P6 UOI Art Class

This week, the theme for the art class for P6 will focus on the upcoming Double Ninth Festival, and children will create works entitled "Our Grandparents" based on their own ideas. The motivation for choosing this theme is to express their deep affection for their grandparents through painting and to help students gain a better understanding of concepts such as composition, color mixing, and acrylic painting techniques.

This not only cultivates students' artistic vision and creativity but also allows them to express their profound emotions towards their grandparents through painting.

In this course, students are first introduced to working with canvas and acrylic paints, which presents a new challenge and experience for them. They learn how to properly use brushes and color palettes and how to use different colors and shades to achieve various effects in their paintings. From composition to color usage, students gradually master a series of painting techniques and demonstrate their unique creativity and imagination in their works.

Each painting is full of childish charm and warmth, showcasing the students' deep affection for their grandparents. Through delicate lines and colors, students draw the images of their grandparents in their minds, expressing their respect and gratitude towards them. These works not only showcase the artistic talents of the students but also demonstrate their love for their families and cherished memories.

Beyond personal artistic growth, this theme-based course also promotes communication and unity among students through mutual sharing and reflection. Students have the opportunity to appreciate and applaud each other's works, feeling each other's emotions and creativity. Through collective discussions and critiques, they learn to appreciate the artworks of others and cultivate qualities of understanding and tolerance.

The "Our Grandparents" art course is not simply a painting activity but an opportunity to express inner emotions through art. In this process, students not only improve their painting skills but also deepen their love for their grandparents. This approach of expressing emotions through art not only enriches students' artistic literacy but also brings about emotional resonance and inner peace.

We believe that this theme-based course not only brings growth to the students but also allows them to experience the power of art and the value of emotional expression. We encourage students to continue to care for and respect their elders in their daily lives, to express gratitude towards their families through art, and to let their grandparents feel their love and care. At the same time, we also hope that students will continue to explore and progress in the artistic journey, passing on their creativity and emotional expression to more people through painting or other artistic forms.

Part.7

M1 Music Class

At the beginning of the semester, students in M1 started a series of courses aimed at giving them a comprehensive understanding of the major components of a symphony orchestra. After studying the strings, woodwinds, and brass divs in previous weeks, the students gained a deep understanding and mastery of these parts.

To conclude this series of courses, this week we focused on the final component of the symphony orchestra - the percussion div. Through learning the names and characteristics of different percussion instruments, the students gained a more comprehensive understanding of the makeup of a symphony orchestra.

In the second music class of the week, we emphasized teaching through singing. We formed a small choir to give the students the opportunity to experience the joy of collaborative singing. At the same time, we learned a new song and practiced and sang it to improve their singing skills and expression. The process of forming the choir and learning the song not only enhanced the students' understanding and appreciation of music but also cultivated their teamwork spirit and expression abilities.

In addition, we reviewed the basic chords learned in previous weeks, including C major, A minor, and F major, and learned the latest chord, G major. Now they can more skillfully find these chords on the ukulele and play songs with them smoothly.

The quick grasp of new concepts and active participation from the M1 students gives me great pleasure in the music room. They demonstrate a good learning attitude and collaborate and actively participate in various activities, expressing their musical talents through singing and ukulele playing. Their efforts and achievements not only bring me joy but also inspire other students. Keep up the good work!

Part.8

M2 Social Science Class

After a break during the vacation, students started a new week of learning with energy. In the social science class of M2, we not only reviewed what we did during the National Day holiday but also delved into South Korea, a neighboring country in Asia.

Through learning about South Korean culture, history, food, music, and other aspects, we have broadened students' horizons and expanded their understanding of the world. I am very excited to see all the students becoming more confident in communication and presentation. They took the initiative to share their research on South Korea and presented it to the whole class through vivid PowerPoint presentations. This active participation and autonomous learning attitude make me very proud.

Through participating in this process, students have developed their research and presentation skills. They have learned how to find reliable information sources, organize and present information, and express it in their own words. This not only cultivates their independent thinking ability but also improves their communication and expression abilities, which are essential skills for their future learning and work.

I see students feel proud and satisfied with their learning achievements, realizing that the knowledge and skills they have learned can bring actual results. Such active learning and a sense of autonomous mission not only enhance student's self-esteem and confidence but also cultivate their lasting enthusiasm and motivation for learning.

As an educator, I am very happy to see students making such significant progress. I look forward to the coming week and eager to see their new progress and achievements in learning. This process is not only about transferring knowledge but also an important step in cultivating students' comprehensive development and independent learning abilities. Through this educational approach, we can cultivate students' creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, laying a solid foundation for them to become future leaders and actively participating citizens of society.
