Amy Tang, a student at Cogdel School Chengdu, was offered a place in Economics at the University of Cambridge, making her one of the three students worldwide to be accepted into the Economics program at Peter House College, Univeristy of Cambridge, and we congratualte her and are very proud of her.
We have always believed every student has great potential and is extremely adaptable. Only with proper guidance will he or she definitely be able to stand out among peers. Therefore Amy has proved herself to us: all that is gold is bound to glitter. Today, we're going to take a look at her past and her strong attachment to Cogdel School Chengdu.
Amy won the NEC Gold Award in the preliminary round and led her team to advance to the global round as the 10th place winner in China
Self-discipline and Focus: the Academic Path of Amy
Amy has always maintained a high level of self-discipline and focus in her study, as she's whole-heartedly absorbed in all the subjects no matter what they they are chemistry, mathematics or any other subjects. This self-discipline and focus has not only allowed her to achieve academic excellence, but also developed her independent thinking and problem-solving skills. Cogdel School Chengdu provided bountiful academic resources and a quality educational environment which laid a solid foundation for Amy's growth.
Amy's lecture on economics topics at the Research Fair
Amy went into a short flashback when talking about her teachers and classes, and then shared how she felt in the classes.
"When it comes to teachers, I have two whom I deeply respect, Mr. Romeo and Mr. Joe. Their teaching is incredibly clear in both logic and language! Although I have a good memory as I could remember everything I read, their guidance and explanation have made my retention of the key exam points exceptionally strong. Moreover, they've elevated my understanding of the basics. Even in areas with tedious memorization, they've made the learning process remarkably engaging."
"I remember one math lesson where Mr. Romeo was teaching geometric progression. He incorporated examples of bank loans into his explanation, which he also talked about things related to game theory. He's very skilled at this teaching method, linking these topics with economics and seamlessly integrating them with our textbook knowledge."
Inspired by interest: Embarking on the Journey of Economics
The diverse learning opportunities and abundant resources provided by Cogdel School Chengdu have enabled students to explore their interests which they take as their lifelong pursuit. The school has prepared more than 40 ECAs, including sports, science, arts, humanities, etc to support the holistic development of the students. The school has introduced more than 50 international competitions in 4 levels, covering topics in mathmatics, physics, chemitry, biology, etc and enchanching students' comprehensive backgrounds.
Amy gradually developed an interest in economics during an essay contest, after which she took economics as her field of study to exhibit her talents.
"Besides the essay contest, I've also participated in NEC(National Economics Challenge), where I won the gold award in the preliminary round and our team ranked 10th in China. Then I was invited to the global round. As I was in the middle of external exam preparation, I didn't go. I've also participated in some math competitions, like BMO and SMC, and what's more, my physics teacher even recommended me to participate in the physics competition. Though the competitions were really intense and the participants were also pretty capable, I luckily won the global gold award." Amy casually mentioned the competitions she participated in and the awards she won, but we knew how much effort and hard work she made behind her sucess.

When discussing how to choose competitions and activities, she recommended younger students: "Our school has provided many competitions and activities. If you have made your decision on a major yet, I suggest you all participate in and try as many as possible. Don't limit yourselves."

All-round Growth: Six years with Six Arts
Amy joined Cogdel School Chengdu at grade 7. She grew up in the nurturing system of Cogdel School Chengdu. We could say Cogdel School Chengdu has been an eyewitness to Amy's journey to success, step by step. While at school, Amy not only achieved acadmiec improvment, but also experienced an all-round development in her leadership, confidence and critical thinking. The Six Arts nurturing system of Cogdel School Chengdu has provided her with crucial support for her growth. Amy, well-mannered, gentle and knowledgeable, has exhibited confidence and leadership qualities in her areas of interest.

Among the six arts, "Yu" is perhaps the most challenging to master, as it stresses students' personal devleopment in leadership. When discussing student clubs with us, Amy, who has held multiple student leadership roles, candidly said: "At Cogdel School Chengdu, I have made various endeavors, such as being elected the leader of the stuents' senate, serving as the school's Head Girl. I believe these experiences have also benefited me tremendously and enchanced my leadership skills significantly. I've taken personality tests, and in reality, my personality tends to be more introverted, leaning towards type "I". When you are in these roles, you be will have to take responsibilities and coordinate the implementation. I think these experiences are something everyone should go through; and they serve as excellent opportunities for personal growth and devleopment."

The Pathway to High Education: Steadfast and Unwavering
When making university choices, Amy received strong support and assistance from the school. School leaders and teachers provided her with detailed planning and guidance, integrated with high-quality resources, including interview simulations. This comprehensive support helped her better navigate the upcoming challenges. With this support, Amy was able to focus on achieving her goals. Eventually, she succeeded in being admitted to the Economics program at the University of Cambridge.
"When I received the news of my offer, I was truly happy, surprised and thrilled. However, in reatliy, the acceptance rate at the University of Cambridge is really low, and moreover, the Economics program I chose is particularly competitive. So I feel somewhat lucky, because Peterhouse College admits only 3 students worldwide each year for Economics and I consider myself very lucky enough to one of them."
At the end of the interview, Amy extended her wishes to her classmates:
May all our wishes come true, as we step into our dream universities and grasp the life scripts we envision."
