About Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students (Guangzhou)

The Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong and Macao Students (Guangzhou), also known as ASJ (Guangzhou), was established under the guidance of Jinan University, a prestigious national university and renowned overseas Chinese higher education institution. It holds the distinction of being the first school in China specifically catered to students from Hong Kong and Macau, as well as the first batch of Participating School in China of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). Additionally, it is an authorized Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) school of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Association of Hong Kong Chinese Middle Schools, and the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union. Recognized as a "best practice case" in the comprehensive deepening of service trade innovation and development pilot by the General Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the school's educational model, known as the "Guangzhou Model," is currently being promoted nationwide.

Prospect of the Grade 12 Graduates

For the graduating classes of 2023 and 2024, the university enrolment rate is 100%, with over 30% being admitted to the top three universities in Hong Kong or China mainland , over 90% being admitted to the top eight universities in Hong Kong or China mainland , and two students being directly admitted to the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong through the SNDAS school recommendation program. One student was granted priority admission to the Chinese University of Hong Kong through the Principal's Recommendation Program.

Development in 2024

In 2024, in response to the "Outline of the Implementation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area" and the "Overall Plan for Deepening Guangzhou Nansha's Comprehensive Cooperation with the World in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area," ASJ (Guangzhou) has been given a new development positioning and top-level design. Jinan University, the Hong Kong Fok Ying-tung Group, and the Hong Kong Victoria Harbour Education Group have joined forces to fully explore and integrate the school's educational resources, establishing the ASJ Ying Tung Campus(Preparatory). The school will operate under a new mechanism and management system, creating a Chinese-style international school and becoming a benchmark school leading the direction of international education development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, inheriting the patriotic education base of the Fok Ying-tung spirit, and attracting young people from Hong Kong and Macau to actively integrate into the national development.

Ying Tung Campus(Preparatory) of ASJ (Guangzhou) will build on the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) programme, with emphasis on science and technology, physical education and arts education, emphasizing diversity and strengths, to achieve comprehensive development and diversified enrolment.

For the 2025-2026 school year, our new senior and new junior residential students in the secondary div will move to the Ying Tung Campus(Preparatory) in the autumn of 2025; Our senior day students, junior day students, kindergarten, elementary, junior, junior and sophomore, and senior students will continue to stay on the Tianhe Campus.

Students enrolled in the Ying Tung High School Section and the Tianhe campus are all students of ASJ (Guangzhou), enjoying the status of in-school students of the Participating School of HKDSE. Students need to undergo school-based curriculum assessment in high school. Students who meet the requirements for in-school status and qualifications can apply to take the DSE exam at the ASJ (Guangzhou) DSE examination center.

Tianhe Campus

ASJ (Guangzhou), Tianhe Campus, is located in the Tianhe District of downtown Guangzhou, adjacent to the lush South China Botanical Garden and the serene Longyan Cave Forest Park, with fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's teaching facilities and equipment have been further optimized and expanded, with a total area of nearly 100 acres, and all types of facilities have been fully upgraded. The modern and elegant architectural style of the school strictly follows the international advanced standards of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) international schools, equipped with a multifunctional integrated catering service center, comprehensive sports center, state-of-the-art multimedia classrooms, spacious and bright libraries, fully equipped laboratories, functional classrooms, and lush outdoor sports fields, aiming to create a safe, comfortable, and international learning environment for students. ASJ (Guangzhou), Ying Tung Campus(Preparatory), located in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, adjacent to the Nansha Passenger Port, advocated and created by the former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Fok Ying-tung, planned and funded by the Fok Ying-tung Foundation, and built to the standards of a first-class school in Guangdong Province, the school implements full boarding management. The school is situated by the mountains and sea, with beautiful scenery, located in the central area of the Pearl River Delta, close to Hong Kong, Macau, and within the "one-hour living circle" of major cities in the surrounding area. The school covers an area of 180 acres, designed by a Canadian Chinese designer with great care, from the structure, function to the facilities and equipment are fully designed according to the teaching rules of international schools. Kindergarten

Primary Section

The ASJ Primary Section (including kindergarten) implements the IBPYP and Hong Kong curriculum, using Hong Kong and foreign English textbooks for all subjects except Chinese, national education, and some information technology subjects. English and Mandarin are the main languages of instruction. Differentiated teaching is adopted in English classes. The school also offered courses aimed at improving English and math skills, along with a Cantonese course.

With the English native speaking teachers, the ASJ Primary Section implements the UOI inquiry learning curriculum (accounting for nearly 30% of total class hours), deeply cultivating students' active inquiry and independent thinking skills, as well as their intrinsic motivation for learning. Through a continuous system of education, students gain comprehensive and balanced development, becoming proactive, thoughtful lifelong learners.

Junior High 

School Section

The ASJ Junior High School Section implements the IBMYP and Hong Kong curriculum, building on the foundation of IB inquiry and interdisciplinary learning, comprehensively promoting the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education curriculum to provide students with a solid academic foundation for high school. Except for Chinese and history subjects, all subjects use full English textbooks from Hong Kong. English and Mandarin are the main languages of instruction.

The curriculum is designed to cater to students’ needs with classes offered in full English teaching m ode and a combination of English and Chinese teaching mode. Tailored teaching methods are implemented to enhance students’ adaptability and academic skills for high school courses, ultimately increasing their academic levels. The school offers tiered teaching in English and math subjects, as well as courses aimed at improving English and math skills, along with a Cantonese course.

Junior high school is a critical period for students' growth. Success is closely related to personal, social, and emotional factors, as students begin to establish self-awareness and values. In addition to teaching students subject knowledge, the ASJ Junior High School Section also helps them improve their life skills, encouraging them to succeed outside of school and in the classroom.

Senior High School Section

The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) is an annual public examination organized by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. Students can apply to renowned universities in Hong Kong, China mainland , and overseas based on their DSE results. DSE exam scores are recognized by over 600 universities in more than 16 countries and regions globally (including over 400 overseas universities), with Hong Kong students able to apply to 145 universities inChina mainland , including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Fudan University (covering mainland 985 and 211 universities). Starting in 2024, our school has officially become a Participating School for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education curriculum (DSE). Eligible students will participate in the DSE exam as in-school students. The school-based assessment scores of students will be reported to the Examination and Assessment Authority and included in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam results.

ASJ (Guangzhou), as a Participating School for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) and examination school, enjoys the "School Recommended Direct Admission Plan" provided by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. Outstanding students who meet the criteria at our school can be directly recommended for admission to renowned universities in Hong Kong and China  mainland through this program. At the same time, our school has signed the "Principal's Recommendation Program" with several public or private universities in Hong Kong and Macau, offering students diverse pathways for further studies.

The school currently has a team of nearly 200 outstanding teachers from around the world, with a teacher-student ratio of 1:6. Teachers with graduate degrees or above account for nearly 80% of the team, with an average teaching experience of nearly 8 years. All teachers have received training in the IB international curriculum or the HKDSE curriculum, and have rich experience in teaching at schools and in subject areas. Biliterate and Trilingual

The school implements ‘biliteracy and trilingualism’, with the curriculum mainly using Hong Kong English teaching materials and English and Putonghua as the main languages of instruction. The English subject is taught in a tiered manner so as to enhance students' English proficiency in all aspects, and at the same time, traditional Chinese characters and Cantonese are strongly promoted, so that students can acquire good listening and speaking skills in Putonghua, Cantonese and English, and be able to clearly recognise traditional Chinese characters and proficiently use English. They can recognise traditional Chinese characters clearly and use English proficiently. Students' biliteracy and trilingualism are also enhanced through a variety of activities such as the Bauhinia Arts Festival, English Speech Contest, Chinese Speech Contest and Debate Competition.

Children grow up only once, home and school co-education, hand in hand, in order to harvest fruitful, the school through a variety of forms of home and school communication forms of timely communication and feedback on students' learning and life performance, give students good habits and academic enhancement. ASJ has a dedicated College Guidance Centre, staffed by a number of professional and experienced guidance counsellors, who are committed to helping each student achieve his or her personal goals and successfully enrol in the university of their choice. From the time a student enters high school, the College Guidance Centre will begin to formulate a college plan and career development plan for each student. College advisors will conduct one-on-one interviews with students in order to understand and follow up on each student's individual development, and to guide students in choosing schools and collecting relevant application information.

The College Guidance Centre also offers occasional guidance classes for students to prepare them for further study at universities in China and abroad. At the same time, we also organise students to participate in university open days and education fairs, as well as visits by admission officers from overseas universities, so that students can benefit from them as much as possible. With the results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) DSE programme, students are able to study in universities in the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas.
