The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and three Affiliated Schools of Jinan University of Hong Kong and Macao Students (ASJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership and promote educational excellence. The signing ceremony was held at the ASJ campus in Guangzhou on September 9, 2024, and was attended by key representatives from four institutions.
Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Life at USJ, led the university’s delegation, while Mr. Tam Yat Yuk, Chief Principal of ASJ Guangzhou, Mr. Martin Lai, Chief Principal of ASJ Foshan, and Mr. Samuel Kam, Principal of ASJ Dongguan, represented the affiliated schools to sign the MOU which signifies a shared commitment to fostering academic cooperation, student mobility, and faculty’s professional development between USJ and the ASJ schools. This collaboration aims to provide students with diverse learning opportunities, enhance their global perspectives, and prepare them for success in the dynamic educational landscape of the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China.
During the ceremony, both parties expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted the importance of nurturing talent and promoting educational innovation. The MOU outlines various areas of collaboration, including student mobility, joint research projects, faculty exchanges, and cultural events.
Prior to the MOU signing, USJ representatives held a productive meeting with the ASJ schools to discuss the implications of the agreement and explore potential synergies. Following the signing ceremony, the USJ delegation paid a visit to the ASJ campus in Guangzhou, where they gained firsthand insights into the school’s facilities and educational programmes.
The MOU signing ceremony was witnessed by guests including Professor Isabel Tchiang, Director of the Teacher’s Professional Development Centre and Programme Coordinator for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education at USJ, Miss Grace Aik, Legal Representative of ASJ Dongguan, Jessica Feng, Principal of ASJ Guangzhou, Miss Lam Pui Yee, Vice Principal of ASJ Foshan, Mr. Ben Lei, Head of Domestic Student Recruitment Office at USJ, Mr. Jason Chau, Director of Senior High School of ASJ Guangzhou, and Miss Vivi Mai, College Counsellor of ASJ Guangzhou.
The collaboration between USJ and the ASJ schools represents a significant step in advancing educational excellence and fostering cross-cultural understanding within the Greater Bay Area, echoing the National policies. With this partnership, the four institutions are poised to create transformative learning experiences for students and contribute to the development of future leaders in various fields.
