Learn to read, read to learn. This small play on words speaks volumes.  Learning how to read opens a world of opportunities.  Being able to read allows us to not only be entertained but also to discover new places, people, and cultures.  Reading enables us to follow our interests and passions whether they lie in Maths, science, arts or any other field of interest.  I truly believe that reading is key to exploration and learning.

“学习如何阅读,并从阅读中学习。” 当我们掌握了阅读的奥秘,就仿佛打开了新世界的大门。阅读不仅可以作为一种自我娱乐的方式,还可以让我们发现“新的大陆、了解不同地区的人和文化。阅读可以有助于我们探索自己热爱的兴趣爱好,无论是数学、科学或是任何其他领域,我们都能从书中寻找到问题的答案。我深信阅读是探索和学习的关键。

The Guided Reading program at ISA Tianhe is an essential tool in developing not only reading skills but also for allowing students to express their ideas and thoughts while considering those of others to build better understanding.  As a homeroom teacher I see my role in Guided Reading as one of the facilitators. We begin each new book by discussing the illustrations on the cover of the book and its title.  From there students are encouraged, through open dialog, to share their ideas about what they think the story might be about.  Next, we talk about new vocabulary which will be encountered in the story so that it will not slow us once we begin to read.

天河爱莎的指导阅读课程不仅是培养学生的阅读技能的关键途径,也让学生在表达自己想法的同时,懂得考虑他人的观点和想法,从而对故事产生更深层次的理解。作为一名主班老师,我认为自己在“指导阅读”中的担任的角色是一名引导者。当我带领孩子阅读一本新的图书,我们会一起讨论每本新书封面上的插图和书名。我会通过开放式的交谈,鼓励学生分享他们对故事内容的看法。下一步,我们会讨论并学习在故事中将遇到的新词汇,这会有助于提高孩子阅读的流畅性,让孩子更能享受阅读的乐趣。


To set a tempo for the store, I will often begin the reading modeling proper speed, intonation, and inflection.  Students then take turns reading aloud and listening to others.  Active listening is an important part of Guided Reading.  It shows respect for others as well as enabling students to answer focused questions, share their thoughts on what is happening / will happen next, and give an accurate recount.

为了让阅读更加轻松有趣,我会在阅读时采用与故事相符的语速、语调和音调变化。学生们会轮流朗读,并倾听他人朗读。学习积极倾听是指导阅读的重要组成部分,可以让学生们学会尊重他人,当学生们认真倾听他人的叙述,会引发他们对故事进一步的思考。同学们喜欢互相探讨故事中正在发生/接下来要发生的情节,并做出准确的复述


Once we have completed our reading, students are able to share their thoughts on different aspects of the story in various ways such of role-play, oral/written recounts…  In this way students are able to increase their confidence and understanding.  

当我们完成了故事的阅读,学生们就可以通过多种方式分享他们对故事不同的看法,比如角色扮演、口头/书面叙述等,这些有趣的形式会让学生们在享受学习的同时提高自信心和理解能力。


These are some of the reasons I believe that the Guided Reading program at ISA Tianhe is an integral part of students’ academic and social growth.
