The Organizing committee of the 19th Asian Games 2022 has released the third batch of "2022 Asian Games teen Journalists". Zhao Ruoxi, a G7 student of ASJ has been selected as one of the 277 teen journalists after two years’ effort.
One in a million, that is Ruoxi
Ruoxi traveled with her parents since she was small. In G3, she enjoyed a two-year study tour in Canada. Ruoxi was very brave to speak English and she soon got along well with the local students. During the study tour, she got excellent grades, far ahead of her peers abroad.
Ruoxi's self-care ability and adaptability have been greatly exercised as she has experienced different environments. Once Ruoxi knew that the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games was recruiting teen journalists, she signed up without hesitation. On the one hand, the Asian Games is a grand sporting event of Asian countries. Athletes communicate via sports, and teen journalists communicate via culture, so that athletes from different countries can get close to China while competing. On the other hand, as the host of the Asian Games, she is also very happy to contribute.

People around Ruoxi were surprised by her initiative as she independently finished all tests set by the committee, such as registration and writing articles, learning of Asian Games knowledge, and the on-site examinations. Ruoxi likes the job very much. Even though there are many difficulties, she dealt with them confidently. She regarded this process as a training of being a good teen journalist.
Ruoxi regarded the two-year-preparation as a challenge named as ‘persistence’. For each audition, she had to learn and memorize 100 questions. Ruoxi’s Mum illustrated that Ruoxi would review the Asian Games knowledge after finishing the homework every day until 11PM or 0AM. Ruoxi's persistence finally made her success.

On the first day of new term in 2022, Liu Shichun, the ASJ MYP teacher met Ruoxi and at that time, she was quite impressed by Ruoxi’s sweet and lively personality. Ruoxi and her friends showed great curiosity and the expectation for studying and living.

According to Ms.Liu, Ruoxi actions well as an IB learner. Ruoxi can be regarded as Communicator and Risk-taker. In every class, she is always the most active to answer questions; In group exploration, Ruoxi always contributed her own ideas without reservation, and actively discussed with team members. In addition, she often come to the offices to interact with teachers. Ruoxi will timely ask questions and seek support from the teachers when she has puzzles in study or in life.

Ruoxi is also a Risk-taker because she keeps challenging herself in various aspects and gets improvements. Though Ruoxi was not skilled in basketball, STEM and golf, she still chose them as her ECA courses as she wants to feel the fun of playing. At the same time, she is also keen to participate in the school activities, such as mathematics competition selection, choir selection and host selection. Ruoxi will seize every opportunity and do her best.

Liveliness, integrity and kindness are the words that Ruoxi’s classmates, teachers and parents used to describe her. Ruoxi is a positive girl, as she is confident as well as living in the environments with benign guidance. Being curious about the world, loving to try and challenge, and learning to make progress through reflection are the key factors for Ruoxi to grow happily.
Self-management ability is one of the five categories of communication skills, thinking skills, research skills, social skills and self-management skills in the MYP curriculum of ASJ Middle School. Self-management skills should be a top priority for G7 students. This skill includes time management, organization of study materials, emotional control, and the ability to reflect. These skills give full play to the main role of students in learning, therefore, they can help students gradually develop a good self-discipline ability and lay good foundations for future learning.
Ruoxi's parents believe that the child will have various interests in different stages of growth, and we must let the child to try. The child shall distinguish 'be forced to learn' from 'I want to learn' and give up the inapposite interests decisively by themselves.
The parents shall encourage the child to have firm faith and persevere in the interests that are suitable for them. The child will take the initiative to share the process of chasing their interests with the parents, and parents shall guide the child to summarize and analyze, so as to achieve great effects.
As every child’s growth path is different, ASJ actively listens to children's ideas, feels and enjoys the joys and sorrows of each child and never misses every unique experience. To ASJ, the best moment is to jointly hold the fruit called "happiness" with all the students.
