Founded in 1972 in downtown Los Angeles and based on the concept of a 'college without walls', Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) is a world-renowned centre of innovation and one of the nation’s few independent architecture schools. Institutionally and artistically, it is often seen as more avant-garde than the traditional American architecture school. SCI-Arc offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Building (NAAB) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), including a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, The 3-year Master of Architecture (M.Aroch 1) is open to applicants with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any field of study, and to applicants with a Bachelor of Architecture for students with a 2-year Master of Architecture (M.Aroch 2).

The Department of Architecture and Design of Pratt Institute, ranked 7th in the United States for undergraduate study, is a NAAB-accredited programme with a strong faculty of outstanding educators and practicing architects. The school has first-class facilities, interdisciplinary links with the prestigious Pratt Institute's Department of Art and Industrial design, and works nationally and internationally in the department of Architecture and urban design Development Network research.
