Professor Alex Chan, Dean of School of Arts and Humanities, explained that the Arts and Humanities encourage us to reflect and explore meanings, values, cultures, and ethics of human experiences, helping us to be active and passionate citizens in our communities. The mission of the School is to widen students’ horizons and self-understanding, enhance their academic and practical knowledge of arts and humanities, and equip them with the essential skills to embrace life challenges and adversities, meet the ever-changing needs and industrial trends of the society, and pave a pathway for a remarkable career.
Professor Albert Teo, Dean of School of Management, mentioned that the BBA (Hons) programme seeks to equip students with cutting-edge professional knowledge in business administration, while at the same time inculcating an awareness of the social and ethical responsibilities of leadership and competition in the market economy. We prepare individuals for administrative-managerial careers in both private sector firms and non-profit organizations. To achieve all-roundedness, students are instructed through a synthetic approach which emphasizes theory and analysis, the ability to apply classroom ideas and concepts to real-world situations and problems, and on-the-job training. We therefore believe that our BBA graduates will accumulate valuable human capital, which will help them advance more quickly in their career paths however multi-faceted are the challenges in the workplace.
Professor Lorna Suen, Dean of School of Nursing, emphasised that the Nursing profession has always played an important role in the medical and healthcare industry. Its scope of professional practice covers the community, schools, hospitals, elderly care homes, etc. In this 21st century, Hong Kong is facing challenges associated with the rapidly ageing population leading to increased demand for healthcare services and professionals. To this end, nurse educators must uphold their spirit of excellence and demonstrate exceptional dedication to nurturing the finest nursing professionals to enhance the standards of clinical practice, teaching and research, and in turn foster tomorrow’s healthcare elite for the community.
In her introduction to the School of Medical and Health Sciences, President Professor Sally Chan said the School of Medical & Health Sciences is a vibrant and dynamic unit with well qualified and committed staff striving for educating students to meet the ever-growing health service demands, and equipping them with relevant knowledge and skills for their pursuit of professional careers or postgraduate studies upon graduation.
