What support and assistance did Harper receive at BIS?
The diverse school environment at BIS has been immensely helpful for me, giving me confidence in adapting to any country in the future. In terms of academics, BIS offers personalized instruction tailored to my needs, arranging one-on-one teaching sessions and providing feedback after each class to help me stay informed about my progress and adjust my study habits accordingly. With some self-study time built into the schedule, I can review topics based on the feedback provided by teachers, aligning better with my learning preferences. Regarding college planning, BIS offers one-on-one guidance sessions, ensuring thorough assistance based on my intended direction, to ensure my academic aspirations. BIS leadership also engages in discussions with me about future educational paths, offering valuable advice and support.
Harper has any advice for Year 12 students who are about to start applying to universities?
Courageously pursue your dreams. Having a dream requires courage, which may entail sacrificing everything, yet still not knowing if you will achieve it. But when it comes to taking risks, be bold, live life on your own terms, and become the person you aspire to be.
Having experienced both traditional and international schools, what do you think of Britannia International School (BIS)?
Having attended traditional schools from a young age, including previous experiences in relatively strict international schools, it seemed like every exam was crucial and failure was not an option. After receiving grades, there was always a period of reflection and a drive to continue improving. But today at BIS, even before I checked my grades, teachers were going around as if to tell everyone to celebrate for me. When I checked my results, Mr. Ray was by my side the entire time, reassuring me not to be nervous. After checking, everyone was so happy, coming to hug me, and every passing teacher was genuinely pleased for me. Mr. Ray practically told everyone to celebrate for me, they didn't understand why I was upset over a mistake in one subject. They felt I had already put in so much effort, which was what mattered most. They even secretly bought me flowers and prepared surprises. I remember Principal Mr. Mark saying, "Harper, You are the only one who is unhappy now, don't be silly! You really did a good job!"
Mrs. San told me she didn't understand why so many Chinese students fixate on small failures and ignore other achievements, always putting immense pressure on themselves and being unhappy.
I think it might be because of the environment they grew up in, leading to increasingly unhealthy adolescent mentalities. Having experienced both Chinese public schools and international schools, different experiences have solidified my desire to become a principal. I want to provide a better education for more young people, one that prioritizes mental health over academic achievements. Some things are far more important than worldly success.
From Harper's WeChat Moments after learning her A-Level results.
As an officially certified international school by the University of Cambridge, Britannia International School (BIS) upholds rigorous teaching standards and provides students with high-quality educational resources in an international learning environment. It is within this atmosphere that Harper was able to fully realize her potential, achieving outstanding A-Level results of double A grades. Following her heart's desire, she chose to apply to a prestigious world-renowned institution located in France, rather than opting for the more mainstream choices in the UK or the US.
The advantages of the Cambridge A-Level program are self-evident. As a high school curriculum system recognized by over 10,000 universities worldwide, it emphasizes the cultivation of students' critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, providing them with a strong competitive edge in university applications.
Among the four major English-speaking countries - the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom - only the United Kingdom has a national curriculum system and a national curriculum assessment supervision system. Therefore, A-Level is one of the most mature high school education systems in the English-speaking world and is globally recognized.
Once students pass the A-Level exam, they can open doors to thousands of universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, and Macau.
