On November 13th, BIS held a special celebration of learning for our secondary students, where they showcased the knowledge and skills they have gained through their recent Global Perspectives research project. Let's take a look at the feelings of Ms. Melissa, the Global Perspectives teacher and also the Secondary School Coordinator at BIS, regarding this celebration:
I would like to share my appreciation to all the Secondary students for all the hard work and dedication they put into our recent Celebration of Learning. The students came together and showed extraordinary teamwork skills. They worked under time constraints, tight deadlines, thinking on their feet to put together the first celebration of learning held by BIS.
Students showcased their term one team projects on the topic of "Humans and Other Species". This event not only highlighted the incredible research and creativity of our students but also underscored the vital role that digital literacy plays in shaping modern education.
Purpose of the Celebration
The Celebration of Learning served as an exciting opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the interconnections between humans and other species. Through this exploration, students engaged in hands-on learning that bridged science, technology, and digital storytelling. The event allowed them to showcase their work in a variety of formats, emphasizing both critical thinking, communication, collaboration, research and digital literacy skills.
This celebration was designed for students, teachers, and families of the school community. It was an opportunity for parents and guardians to witness the growth of their children as public speakers, team players and digital learners. Parents were able to see their creativity firsthand and understand the importance of global perspectives and digital literacy in education.
Throughout Theme One, students explored the complex relationships between humans and other species, diving deep into areas such as ecology, biology, animal welfare, and the impact of human activities on wildlife and ecosystems. The culmination of their efforts was an impressive display of creativity, critical thinking, and digital storytelling.
From interactive exhibition displays and digital posters to short videos and podcasts our students used a variety of digital tools to communicate their findings. By engaging with a wide range of digital platforms and tools, students not only learned about Humans and other Species but also developed important skills in online research, public speaking and teamwork. Their ability to analyze, create, and communicate in digital formats demonstrates the power of blending traditional learning with new technologies.
I am immensely proud of the hard work and dedication each student put into their projects. Every student contributed in some shape or form. I would like to commend Year eleven student Omar Balla who showed exceptional leadership skills directing fellow secondary students at short notice.
The Celebration of Learning was just one example of how our students are embracing new challenges and opportunities. Moving forward, we are excited to continue developing more celebrations of learning across all the curricula. The aim is to empower our students with the tools and skills they need to become global citizens, innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow. After the exhibition students reflected on their work and critically evaluated what they had achieved. They fedback on what went well, and what they could improve on next time. This really was a learning curve they are excited about what else they can achieve.
Thank you to all the students, teachers, and families who contributed to the success of this event. We look forward to seeing how our learners will continue to grow, explore, and create!
