We are thrilled to share with you the vibrant world of music education at BIS, where students are embarking on a journey of creativity, self-expression, and cultural exploration. As a school that adopts the Cambridge Curriculum, we are committed to stretching, challenging, and inspiring all our students through the power of music.
Cambridge Music:
Cultivating Joy and Confidence
At BIS, music is more than just a subject; it's a gateway to creativity and confidence. Cambridge Music encourages our learners to explore their potential as performers, composers, and listeners, while appreciating the diverse tapestry of music from around the globe. Our students cultivate a joy for music through meaningful and enjoyable experiences, developing the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute as musicians. They collaborate, nurture their creativity, and use their growing knowledge to explore and generate music, preparing them for many aspects of their future learning and development.
Collaboration with
Xinghai Conservatory of Music
This semester, we are excited to announce our collaboration with the prestigious Xinghai Conservatory of Music, offering a Piano Improvisation Course. This partnership aims to enhance our students' musical literacy and artistic refinement, while also providing a unique opportunity to learn Chinese ancient poetry through the medium of song. Our students have shown remarkable enthusiasm and talent in piano, and to further support their growth, we are hosting a music grading event. This event will not only certify their musical proficiency but also celebrate their dedication and hard work, with all costs covered by our sponsoring unit to promote a love for music learning.
Music Education at BIS:
Solfege System and Rudiments
Mr. Dika, our esteemed music teacher, has highlighted the importance of music education in our curriculum, focusing on the Solfege system and the Rudiments of Music. The Solfege system, known to many from "The Sound of Music," is a fun and engaging method of learning musical scales and intervals. Our students are introduced to this system through interactive games and activities, making the learning process enjoyable and intuitive.
The Rudiments of Music cover the foundational principles and practices, including reading sheet music, understanding rhythm, tempo, and dynamics, and learning about musical notation. We emphasize a hands-on approach, with students playing various instruments and composing their own pieces, applying their knowledge in practical settings.
For example, in our Ukulele class, we emphasize rhythm, playing on the count, and chord mastery. Students learn to synchronize strumming with the beat, play in time with a metronome, and transition between chords. Starting with basic chords and progressing to complex ones, the class also delves into the instrument's history and various playing styles, with regular practice being key to skill development.
Winter Concert:
A Music Festival
As we approach the festive season, we are eagerly looking forward to our upcoming Winter Concert in December. This event is not just a concert; it's a celebration of our students' musical journey, a showcase of their talents, and a testament to their hard work and dedication in their music studies. Join us for a day of enchanting melodies and harmonies as our students take the stage to display their musical prowess, leaving you with memories that will resonate long after the final note is played.
Stay tuned for more details on this music festival, and let the joy of music fill your hearts this winter at BIS.
Looking Ahead:
Opportunities for Musically Talented Students
In the future, for students who ae passionate and talented in music, BIS will create direct pathways to music conservatories or priority admission opportunities, allowing students to achieve better development on their path to higher music education. We have already established strategic partnerships with music-focused universities such as Carthage College in the United States and the Royal Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, paving the way for our students in advance.
