As the current term at BIS nears its end, a rich tapestry of educational activities and events has unfolded, vividly illustrating the school's dynamic learning community. The pivotal PTC Day served as a cornerstone event, enhancing the home-school connection through meaningful parent-teacher dialogues and laying the foundation for collaborative education.

The Reception class embarked on an exhilarating "To The Rescue" journey, delving into the world of superheroes and real-life heroes, and crafting their own heroic narratives.

Year 6 students embarked on an exceptional learning odyssey. Their cooking project in English and Math classes not only sharpened various skills but also fostered a love for culinary arts. Their foray into AI, coupled with sharing sessions with Year 1 students, showcased their academic prowess.

Throughout, BIS has emphasized growth and engaging, fun learning. From cultivating a growth mindset during assessments to integrating the "fun theory" in English lessons through Math and Science, BIS School continues to be the centre of educational innovation and progress.

Strengthening Partnerships: BIS's PTC Day Fosters Dialogue and Growth

Written by Ms. Suty, December 2024.

On December 6th, BIS School welcomed parents to campus for its PTC Day, a pivotal event that strengthens the bond between home and school. This day is dedicated to one-on-one conversations between parents and teachers, fostering a deeper understanding and cooperation.

The essence of PTC Day lies in its role as a conduit for dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing the importance BIS places on the synergy between home and school in nurturing students' growth. During these interactions, the school gains a deeper understanding of parental expectations and needs, while parents gain insights into the school's educational philosophy and their children's academic journey.

This event is more than just a meeting; it's an investment in the future of our students. It fosters a harmonious and effective educational environment where we hope that every child can flourish with the combined support of their family and school community.

Superheroes and Saving the Day: A Reception Class Adventure

Written by Ms. Suzanne, December 2024.

Reception tiger cubs have been focusing on the topic of “To The Rescue”.

When it comes to superheroes, anything is possible! Reception class have loved creating their own make-believe stories, involves dressing up and acting out hero roles, playing with small world figures and creating their own narratives.

We have explored the lives of real superheroes like fire-fighters, medics and police officers. Finding out who they are, what they do, and why they are so important.

We have even had a visit from a very special guest who awarded us our safety certificates.

We have been examining their uniforms and where they work from. Every superhero has a base. So, we have been making small world scenarios with fire stations, police stations and hospitals for our small world toys. We have been exploring the different modes of transport our superheroes use.

A big thank you to the older children in the school; who made us some fabulous mini world buildings in their STEAM class. These buildings really helped our small world play come to life.

We are learning that we can all be heroes; simply by helping each other every day. We have been developing kindness and teamwork in our class.

The children decided on a set of rules for happy play; so that class time can be fun and enjoyed by everyone.

· We don’t harm others.

· We don’t hurt anybody’s feelings.

· We respect our classroom and our toys.

· We keep our classroom clean and tidy.

· We put our rubbish in the bin.

Some of us have also made friends with older children from big school, who act as our big superhero brothers and sisters when we play outside.

For the next two weeks we will be exploring the magical world of the famous Superhero - Santa Claus who bring joy and happiness to children all over the world and the amazing creatures that live in the North and South Pole.  We are exploring how they have the super ability to live in such freezing temperatures.

We wish everyone in our BIS family a very happy holiday time.

Thank you all for your continued support and involvement Tiger Family.

Year 6 Annual Cooking Project and Celebration of Learning

Written by Mr. Jason, December 2024.

Cooking Project

Over the past two weeks, Year 6 students had the unique opportunity to dive into the exciting world of cooking during their English and Math classes. But what's all the excitement about, you ask? Picture this: cooking mouthwatering chicken shawarma, crispy French fries, juicy hamburgers, and flavorful chicken biriyani—all within the walls of the classroom! Sounds like a dream class, right?

This hands-on experience not only ignited students' passion for cooking, but also provided them with invaluable learning opportunities in key areas such as collaboration, communication, vocabulary expansion, cultural awareness, measurement and fractions, and problem-solving.

As the cooking sessions unfolded, I had the pleasure of observing how students worked together with enthusiasm, confidence, and creativity. The atmosphere buzzed with innovation and teamwork, as students were encouraged to share feedback with one another, celebrating successes and offering constructive advice for improvement. This approach fostered a student-centered environment, where everyone had a chance to shine.

And the fun doesn’t stop here! The cooking project will continue after the winter holidays, and I can’t wait to see what delicious international dishes our talented Year 6 chefs will create next. Stay tuned for more culinary adventures!

Celebration of Learning: English Literacy and AI

In another exciting chapter of their learning journey, Year 6 students embarked on an AI adventure in the 21st century! Imagine a classroom filled with laptops, iPads, notebooks, pencils, and cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence software—a perfect blend of traditional and digital learning.

After a month of planning, researching, writing, editing, and publishing their very own short stories, the students were ready to showcase their hard work at the Celebration of Learning on December 3rd. The highlight of the event was a heartwarming visit to Ms. Zanie’s Year 1 classroom, where Year 6 students shared the magic of literacy with the younger students. The room was filled with excitement, wonder, and an eagerness to learn, as Year 6 students proudly exhibited their creativity and hard work.

A huge thank you to Ms. Zanie, Ms. Julie, and the Year 1 students for welcoming us with such warmth and enthusiasm. The collaboration and excitement we witnessed on this special day made it a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Embracing Growth Through Reflection

Written by Mr. Jay, December 2024.

As we wrap up our recent assessments, I want to take a moment to celebrate our learning environment and the growth we’ve achieved together. Our classroom has fostered a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and resilience, where every question is welcomed, and each student’s voice is valued.

The assessments provided an opportunity to gauge our understanding and identify areas for improvement. It’s essential to remember that mistakes are not failures; rather, they are stepping stones on our path to mastery. Each misstep offers insight into our learning processes and highlights concepts that may need revisiting.

I encourage students to review their assessments carefully. Ask yourself: What did I find challenging? Which strategies worked well, and which didn’t? For instance, if you struggled with solving quadratic equations, take the time to revisit those problems and explore alternative methods, such as factoring or using the quadratic formula.

Let’s use this time to embrace a growth mindset. Rather than viewing errors as setbacks, let's see them as opportunities for learning and improvement. As we continue our journey through mathematics, I invite all students to share their reflections and strategies with classmates. By supporting one another, we can create an even richer learning experience.

Thank you for your continued dedication and hard work. Together, we can turn challenges into triumphs!

Fun-Filled Learning: English through Math and Science

Written by Mr. Rex, December 2024.

Welcome to our class! I’m thrilled to have your student join us on this exciting learning journey. My teaching philosophy is rooted in fun theory, which means I believe that learning should be as enjoyable as it is educational. When students find joy in what they do, they naturally engage more deeply and retain knowledge better.

In this class, we work hard and play harder! I’ve carefully designed lessons that balance focused effort with activities that spark curiosity, creativity, and fun. From interactive projects to dynamic games, your child will have opportunities to learn through experiences that bring smiles and “aha” moments.

Our focus will be on learning English through Math and Science. By integrating language skills with these subjects, your child will not only develop their proficiency in English but also strengthen their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. Whether we’re exploring numbers, conducting experiments, or discussing scientific ideas, each activity is designed to be interactive and meaningful.

Together, we’ll create a vibrant, supportive environment where every child feels inspired to achieve their best while genuinely enjoying the process. I look forward to partnering with you to make this a memorable and rewarding year!
