教育,是能够看到每个个体的与众不同,使其充分发挥潜力、爱上学习的过程。在当今的多元世界,教育早已不再局限于单一的传授知识,而更注重于激发学生的潜能,培养成为具备批判性思维和创新创造能力的全面发展人才。


当一位屡屡获奖的“天赋型”选手,来到荔湾爱莎初中部 (国际方向),他又看到了怎样的成长可能?

This is a story about competition and achievement, but even more so, a journey of self-discovery and growth beyond goals. 

 

Education is the process of recognizing each individual's uniqueness, enabling them to realize their full potential and develop a love for learning. In today's diverse world, education is no longer limited to the mere transfer of knowledge but instead focuses on inspiring students' potential and fostering well-rounded individuals with critical thinking and innovative abilities. 

 

When a repeatedly award-winning "talented" student joined the Middle School of ISA Wenhua Liwan School of Guangzhou (International), what new possibilities for growth did he discover?

星星之火,可以燎原

A Spark Can Ignite a Flame

“他是个对世界充满好奇的孩子。我总是想,怎样才能既激发他的探索兴趣,又让他获得成就感呢?”廖同学的妈妈回忆道,“于是,我在他二年级时,进校为他和几个感兴趣的孩子组建数学俱乐部,上起了奥数课。”


自小学起就加入爱莎的廖同学,从数学竞赛到英文演讲,从科学展览到艺术创作,比赛,成为他学习旅程中密不可分的一部分。“比赛并不是为了‘鸡娃’,而是根据孩子的特点找到更适合的教育方式。”在父母与学校的支持下,每一次参赛,都是一次新的探索与成长。


“为了准备一场比赛,连续几个星期都在做题练习,请教老师。”妈妈笑着分享道,“那时的他,虽然年纪还很小,但那股追求完美的认真劲儿真的很让人感动。我知道,他是在享受这个学习的过程,而不是仅仅为了获得奖牌。”

“He’s a child full of curiosity about the world. I often wondered how to spark his interest in exploration while giving him a sense of accomplishment,” recalled Liao's mother. “So, when he was in second grade, I started a math club for him and a few interested children at school and taught Olympiad math.” 


Since joining ISA in primary school, Liao has immersed himself in competitions—from math contests to English speeches, science exhibitions, and art creation. Competitions have become an integral part of his learning journey. “Competitions aren’t about 'pushing' the child but rather finding an educational path that suits their traits,” his mother explained. With the support of his parents and the school, every competition became a new opportunity for exploration and growth. 


“To prepare for a competition, he practiced problems and sought teachers’ advice for weeks,” his mother shared with a smile. “Even at a young age, his dedication to perfection was deeply touching. I knew he was enjoying the learning process, not merely chasing medals.”

随着年级的升高,廖同学来到了爱莎荔湾。对他而言,这里是一个充满无限可能的全新世界,更多的兴趣也在一次次的尝试与突破中升华。


作为专属学术导师,经验丰富、充满热情的Nora老师敏锐地洞察到,廖同学具备缜密的逻辑思维和自信表达观点的勇气。于是,她在中文写作课上耐心指导廖同学如何运用逻辑和论据来支持自己的观点、如何反驳对方的论点……


“为了提升他的表达能力,我们引入了大量的练习,比如,开放式写作任务和需要批判性思维的讨论。”英语语言文学课的Mayers老师补充道,“在创意写作方面,鼓励他融入所擅长的有趣叙事,形成强烈的个人风格。”


在老师们的悉心支持下,廖同学在辩论赛场上大放异彩,获得了纵横杯国际学校中文辩论赛单场最佳辩手的荣誉。同时,他的文学创作也常常让同学和老师感到“眼前一亮”。


“辩论,让我学会了如何用语言征服世界,去传递自己的观点。”廖同学说,“而写作,则是内心世界的真实写照,是我与世界对话的方式。”

As he advanced to higher grades, Liao joined ISA Liwan. For him, it was a whole new world filled with endless possibilities, and his interests further blossomed through numerous attempts and breakthroughs. 


His academic mentor, the experienced and passionate Ms. Nora, quickly noticed his meticulous logical thinking and courage in confidently expressing his ideas. She patiently guided him in Chinese writing classes on how to use logic and evidence to support his arguments and how to counter opposing viewpoints. 


“To enhance his expressive skills, we introduced a variety of exercises, such as open-ended writing tasks and discussions requiring critical thinking,” added Mr. Mayers, his English Language and Literature teacher. “In creative writing, we encouraged him to incorporate his humorous storytelling, developing a strong personal style.” 


With the dedicated support of his teachers, Liao excelled in debate, earning the Best Debater award in an individual round of the Zhongheng Cup Chinese Debate Competition for International Schools. His literary creations also frequently impressed both classmates and teachers. 


“Debating taught me how to use language to conquer the world and convey my ideas,” Liao shared. “Writing, on the other hand, reflects my inner world—a way to dialogue with the world.”

知不足以奋进

Recognizing Shortcomings to Strive Forward

竞赛场上,可能胜利高歌,也可能“颗粒无收”。成绩单上,可能闪亮登顶,也可能“跌进低谷”。成长的道路,并非总是一帆风顺。


参加了多场重要比赛,却都没能拿到好名次;提交了认真构思的作文,却因偏题而未达预期;更多优秀同学的加入,竞争压力似乎席卷没顶…….“会感觉迷失方向,甚至开始质疑自己的能力。”廖同学谈道,“我开始反思自己,思考到底那里做得不够。”


正是在这样的反思中,廖同学意识到,不能总是依赖过去的成就和天赋,而是需要在挑战中保持平稳的心态和努力的钻研。他调整了自己的学习计划,根据老师的建议阅读大量的书籍和资料,积极与身边同学请教和讨论,不断拓展知识面的同时,锻炼自己的实践能力和团队协作能力。


在这个过程中,学会如何运用所学知识来解决实际问题,更学会了如何在压力下认识自己和不断超越。

In competitions, one may triumph gloriously or return empty-handed. On report cards, one may shine at the top or stumble into valleys. The path of growth is never smooth. 


After participating in several important competitions without achieving good results, submitting a well-thought-out essay that missed the mark, and facing increasing pressure from more outstanding peers, Liao admitted, “There were times I felt lost and even began to doubt my abilities. I started reflecting on myself, thinking about what I could do better.” 


Through this reflection, he realized that he could not rely solely on past achievements or natural talent. Instead, he needed to maintain a steady mindset and work diligently in the face of challenges. He revised his study plan, followed his teachers’ advice to read extensively, actively sought advice and discussions with peers, and expanded his knowledge while honing his practical and teamwork skills. 


During this process, he not only learned to apply knowledge to solve real-world problems but also discovered how to understand himself under pressure and continue surpassing his limits.

我与我周旋久,宁作我

Wrestling with Myself, Becoming Myself

在经历了一段反思与调整后,廖同学在老师的帮助下逐渐找到了自己的节奏和方向。他学会了与自己和解,与挑战和解,与“完美”和解。


“我不需要成为别人眼中的完美主义者,我只需要尽最大努力来做最好的自己。”廖同学开始尝试将探索欲和推导能力运用在科创领域:在“鱼菜共生”项目中,廖同学和他的团队一起设计和搭建了一个自循环生态系统,利用水培技术和生物过滤系统,通过不断的调试和优化,实现了鱼的蔬菜的共生共养,用创新的思维和扎实的技能为团队贡献自己的力量。


在同学们的眼中,廖同学早已成长为了一个学习的榜样。“他的乐观和自信深深感染到了我,一直激励我去追求更高的目标。”有高年级的同学评价道。也有一同参加“未来之城”科创项目的同学补充道:“和他一起合作总是让我感到踏实,他的才华和领导力让我们更团结和高效。”


不论是激烈的辩论表达,还是严谨的运算论证,廖同学给身边同学的印象都是“自信”、“笃定”、“大方”、“舒展”,而收放自如的背后,是摆脱“完美”束缚后的探索追求,也是“在适合的成长路径上自由发展”的底气和信心。“努力固然重要,更重要的是保持一颗平常心去享受做自己的成长过程。”他说道。

After a period of reflection and adjustment, with the help of his teachers, Liao gradually found his rhythm and direction. He learned to reconcile with himself, with challenges, and with the idea of “perfection.” 


“I don’t need to be the perfectionist in others’ eyes. I just need to try my best to be the best version of myself,” Liao shared. He began applying his curiosity and analytical skills to STEM projects. In the “Aquaponics” project, he and his team designed and built a self-sustaining ecosystem using hydroponic technology and biological filtration systems. Through continuous testing and optimization, they achieved a harmonious balance between fish and vegetables, contributing innovative ideas and solid skills to the team. 


To his classmates, Liao has already become a role model for learning. “His optimism and confidence deeply inspire me and motivate me to aim higher,” remarked one senior student. Another peer who collaborated with him on the Future City STEM project added, “Working with him always feels reassuring. His talent and leadership make us more united and efficient.” 


Whether in fierce debates or precise calculations, Liao leaves an impression of being “confident,” “determined,” “generous,” and “relaxed.” Behind his composure lies a pursuit unbound by “perfection” and the confidence of growing freely on a suitable path. “Effort is certainly important, but even more so is maintaining a calm mind to enjoy the process of growing into yourself,” he said.

“他身上展现出的,是对知识的渴望与对自我的不断挑战,这正是我们教育所追求的核心价值。”郭校在谈及廖同学的突破时,眼中闪烁着欣赏的光芒。作为富有经验的教育领航者,郭校表示:“我们深知,像他这样拥有无限潜力和探索热情的孩学生多可贵。因此,我们践行的‘登峰计划’为学生提供了更加契合其个人需求的教学资源和方法。”


爱莎荔湾一直致力于构建一个能够全面激发学生潜能、引导他们走向卓越的教育环境。“登峰计划’就是这一教育理念的具体实践。通过个性化的教学、学术导师的悉心指导以及多元化的评价体系,帮助学生充分挖掘自身潜力,实现自我突破。


廖同学在入选数学登峰计划后,得到了专业数学教练的悉心指导,采取系统性的赛事培训,提升他的数学知识储备、培养数学思维与运用能力。在科学登峰计划中,廖同学通过“未来之城”项目,在科创老师的指导下,与团队一同设计未来智慧城市。跨学科的知识整合能力、创新思维、团队合作精神,发现与解决问题的能力,在动手实践中迅速提升,也为未来发展奠定坚实基础。


“我们相信,每位学生都有无限的潜力和可能性。”郭校谈道,“通过‘登峰计划’这样的学术培养计划,为优秀学生提供了更多的机会和平台,让他们能够展现才华、锻炼能力,朝着更加优秀的目标一路向前。”

“He embodies a thirst for knowledge and a constant challenge to himself, which is precisely the core value we strive for in education,” said Mr. Guo, Principal of Middle School of ISA Wenhua Liwan School of Guangzhou (International), his eyes sparkling with admiration when discussing Liao’s breakthroughs. As an experienced educational leader, Mr. Guo remarked, “We understand how precious students like him are, with limitless potential and a passion for exploration. That’s why our ‘ISA Talent Program’ provides teaching resources and methods more suited to their individual needs.”  


ISA Liwan is committed to creating an educational environment that fully ignites students' potential and guides them toward excellence. The ‘ISA Talent Program’ is the concrete implementation of this educational philosophy. Through personalized instruction, careful guidance from academic mentors, and a diverse evaluation system, it helps students fully tap into their potential and achieve self-breakthroughs.  


After being selected for the ISA Talent Program in mathematics, Liao received dedicated guidance from professional math coaches, undergoing systematic training for competitions to expand his math knowledge and develop his mathematical thinking and application skills. In the ISA Talent Program for science, Liao participated in the “Future City” project, where, under the guidance of innovation and technology teachers, he and his team designed a future smart city. His interdisciplinary knowledge integration, innovative thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities were rapidly enhanced through hands-on practice, laying a solid foundation for his future development.  


“We believe every student has unlimited potential and possibilities,” Mr. Guo shared. “Through academic training programs like the ‘ISA Talent Program,’ we provide more opportunities and platforms for outstanding students, allowing them to showcase their talents, develop their abilities, and move forward toward even greater goals.”
