The I-EP PYP Unit of Inquiry exhibition for Grades 1-3 focuses on various themes, ranging from “Where we are in place and time” to “How we express ourselves”.
Where We Are in Place and Time
本学年,一年级学生顺利举办了以 “我们身处的时空” 为主题的首次小型展览。此次探究聚焦于,理解人们的生活所在地,及其所处环境是如何塑造他们的生活方式的?这其中涵盖了价值观、身份认同以及文化等方面。
Grade 1 students successfully held their first mini-exhibition this academic year under the theme “Where We Are in Place and Time.” The central inquiry focused on understanding the relationship between where people live and how their environments shape their way of life, including their values, identities, and cultures.
本次探究单元(UOI 2)总结性评估的一个关键任务是,小组合作。一年级的每个班级都被分成了四个小组,其中一年级 1 班的学生选择制作平房、高脚屋、公寓以及骑楼的模型;一年级 2 班的学生则把冰屋、独立式住宅、泥屋和平房作为他们重点关注的对象。
For the Unit of Inquiry (UOI) 2 summative assessment, the task was a collaborative group project. Each Grade 1 class was divided into four groups, with students in Grade 1 Class 1 choosing to create models of a Bungalow, Stilt House, Apartment, and Qi Luo. Meanwhile, students in Grade 1 Class 2 selected an Igloo, Detached House, Mud House, and Bungalow as their focus. Over the course of a six-week learning journey, students explored various types of houses, the different rooms within these houses, and the significance of family values.
同学们在明确即将构建的房屋类型后,认真投入到平面图的设计工作之中。这一过程他们认真思考卧室与卫生间的数量,以及起居空间和餐饮区域的布局设置,力求做到合理规划。
Once the students decided on the type of house their group would construct, they engaged in designing detailed floor plans. This involved making decisions about the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as the placement of living and dining spaces. During art lessons, students worked with the art teacher to create furniture for the various rooms in their houses. Once the furniture was completed, the students collaboratively arranged and decorated the interiors of their house models, paying attention to detail and functionality.
此次项目的高光时刻,是 12 月 5 日星期四举行的小型展览。
The culmination of this project was the mini-exhibition held on Thursday, 5th December. In the morning, the students confidently presented their projects to the PIEP children, followed by an afternoon session where they showcased their work to their parents. The students displayed remarkable confidence and effectively overcame any initial apprehensions about speaking before an audience. The exhibition was a testament to their learning, creativity, and growth, demonstrating significant progress since the start of the academic year.
Sharing the Planet
二年级的同学们踏上了一场关于“共享地球”的奇妙旅程。他们不仅成为了小小探险家,还化身环保小卫士,用行动诠释着对大自然的热爱与尊重。
Grade 2 students embarked on a fantastic journey themed "Sharing the Planet." They have not only become little explorers but also environmental guardians, demonstrating their love and respect for nature through their actions.
穿梭在热带雨林的茂密绿意中,感受那湿润的空气和生命的律动;或是站在巍峨的山巅,俯瞰着脚下的云海和远方的天际线……通过放飞想象力,“探秘自然世界”之旅带领同学们领略了大自然的神奇魅力。
在单元探究的过程中,同学们不仅学习了各种自然环境的独特之处,还亲手制作了精美的自然栖息地模型,将大自然的奇妙带回家。
Imagine the children wandering through the lush greenery of a tropical rainforest, feeling the moist air and the rhythm of life; or standing atop a majestic mountain, overlooking the clouds and the horizon below. All of this came true in their "Exploring the Natural World" adventure. The children not only learned about the uniqueness of various natural environments but also crafted exquisite natural habitat models, as if bringing the wonders of nature home.
在深入探索主题的过程中,同学们开始关注到森林砍伐、水污染、气候变化等人类活动对自然栖息地的破坏等社会问题。通过角色扮演和互动讨论,他们提出了自己的担忧并意识到保护环境的重要性。
When the children learned about the destruction of natural habitats caused by human activities such as deforestation, water pollution, and climate change, their faces were filled with surprise and concern. Through role-playing and interactive discussions, the children deeply understood the importance of environmental protection and vowed to start with small things around them to contribute to our Earth Mother.
在“生物的应对策略”这一环节中,同学们又变成了一群小小科学家。他们通过观察和研究,发现了动植物在面对环境变化时的奇妙适应机制。从骆驼的驼峰到仙人掌的刺,从企鹅的羽毛到海龟的迁徙,每一种生物都以其独特的方式诠释着生命的智慧与坚韧。
In the "Biological Adaptation Strategies" segment, the children transformed into little scientists. Through observation and research, they discovered the amazing adaptation mechanisms of plants and animals in response to environmental changes. From the humps of camels to the spines of cacti, from the feathers of penguins to the migrations of sea turtles, each creature embodies the wisdom and resilience of life in its unique way.
这次奇妙的旅程,让同学们在收获知识的同时,激发了对大自然的敬畏与爱护之心。我们相信,同学们将继续带着这份热爱与责任,为保护共同的家园贡献出更多的力量。
This UOI theme journey of "Sharing The Planet" has not only enriched the children's knowledge but also inspired their awe and care for nature. We look forward to the days ahead where the children will continue to carry this love and responsibility, contributing even more to protecting our shared home.
How We Express Ourselves
在以 “我们如何表达自己 ”为主题的探究单元(UOI)中,三年级学生探索了各种传递信息的方式,并了解到语言是有力量的,可以对他人产生积极或消极的影响。
为了强化这一概念,学生们参与了各种活动,学习如何有效、负责任地表达自己的想法。
For the UOI (Unit of Inquiry) theme of "How We Express Ourselves," the third-grade students explored various ways to convey messages and understand that language has power and can impact others positively or negatively, depending on how we choose to communicate with those around us.
其中一个重要方面是,学习如何有效宣传思想和观点。
同学们学习并了解了不同类型的海报,如广告、警示牌和公告,并练习制作自己的海报。
通过亲身体验,去发展自己的创造技能,同时去磨练清晰、有说服力地传达信息的能力。
An important aspect of this was learning how to effectively publicize ideas and opinions. Students studied and learned about different types of posters, such as advertisements, warning signs and announcements, and practiced making their own posters.Through hands-on experience, they went on to develop their creative skills while honing their ability to communicate their message clearly and persuasively.
另一个重要方面是,通过语言和肢体语言表达自我。
三年级的同学们通过戏剧表演将所学知识活学活用。他们表演了题为 “棒球”、“回旋镖 ”和 “盲人 ”的话剧,将所学到的知识表现得淋漓尽致。这些表演不仅寓教于乐,还有力地提醒了我们的言行对他人的影响。
Another important aspect is to express oneself through words and body language. The third graders brought what they learned to life through drama performances.They performed plays entitled “Baseball”, “Boomerang”, and “Blind Man” to bring out what they had learned. These performances were not only entertaining, but also a powerful reminder of the impact our words and actions have on others.
本次 UOI 主题活动让三年级学生全面了解了语言的力量以及如何有效地表达自己。通过创意活动、实践项目和戏剧表演的结合,学生们加深了对各种形式交流的认识和理解。
This UOI theme provided the third-grade students with a comprehensive understanding of the power of language and how it can be used to express themselves effectively. Through a combination of creative activities, hands-on projects, and dramatic performances, students were able to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of communication in all its forms.
单元探究的重要性,在于它能够培养学生的批判性思维、自主学习能力和跨学科整合能力。让学生在解决真实世界问题的过程中深化对知识的理解和应用,最终实现学生能力的全面提升。
The importance of unit inquiry lies in its ability to develop students' critical thinking, independent learning ability and interdisciplinary integration ability. It allows students to deepen their understanding and application of knowledge in the process of solving real-world problems, and ultimately realizes the overall improvement of students' abilities.
