在刚刚公布的雅思考试中,华外同文外国语学校I-EP MYP八年级崔砚涵同学首次参考便以总分7.5分(听力8.5、阅读8.5、写作6.5、口语6.5)的优异成绩惊艳亮相!这一成绩不仅远超预期,更展现了华外学子扎实的英语功底与卓越的综合素养。这份成绩的背后,是日复一日的努力、师长的悉心指导,以及学校国际化教育理念的深度浸润。 

In the recently released IELTS results, Grace Cui, a role model from the MYP Class 801, stunned everyone with an outstanding overall score of 7.5 (Listening 8.5, Reading 8.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 6.5) on her first attempt! 





从字母到学术英语,IB课程助力成长
 IB Curriculum Facilitates Growth




从在华外小学一年级初次接触字母表,到如今Phase 5阶段的IB课程,崔砚涵同学与英语的“缘分”已持续了整整八年。作为一所IB世界学校的学生,英语不仅是必修科目,更是贯穿探究式学习的重要工具。她坦言:“IB课程中的批判性思维训练和学术写作要求,让我在应对雅思大作文时更加从容。” 

From learning the alphabet in primary school to engaging in Phase 5 IB courses, Grace’s journey with English has spanned eight years. As a student at an IB World School, English is not merely a compulsory subject but a vital tool for inquiry-based learning. “The critical thinking training and academic writing requirements in the IB curriculum helped me tackle the IELTS essay with confidence,” she shared.

以此次考试中的大作文题目“什么才算一个国家成功的标准”为例,这道题看似抽象,但崔砚涵却将其与IB课程中的“全球议题”单元巧妙结合。“课堂上,我们曾通过分析联合国可持续发展目标(SDGs)来探讨国家发展的多维度标准,比如经济、环境、社会公平等。这些框架帮助我快速构建了作文的逻辑结构。”她回忆道。最终,这篇作文以清晰的论点、扎实的论据获得了6.5分,为总分奠定了重要基础。

When faced with the challenging essay topic “What defines a nation’s success?”, Grace drew on frameworks from her IB “Global Issues” unit, analyzing dimensions like economy, environment, and social equity. Her structured arguments secured a 6.5 in writing, laying a solid foundation for her total score. 




师恩如灯,照亮前行之路
 Express Gratitude to Teachers




谈及备考经历,崔砚涵特别感谢了Phase 5的英语教师Mr.T。“他总能在课堂上用生动的案例将语法和词汇‘活化’,比如通过分析《纽约时报》的社论来学习复杂句型。”她举例说,“每次写作练习后,Mr.T都会逐句批注,甚至标注‘这里用虚拟语气会更严谨’‘这个论点需要更多数据支撑’。”

Grace expressed deep gratitude to her Phase 5 English teacher, Mr. T. “His dynamic teaching methods, like dissecting *New York Times* editorials to master complex sentence structures, transformed grammar from rules to tools,” she explained. Detailed feedback on essays—such as “Use the subjunctive mood here for precision” or “Support this claim with more data”—proved invaluable. 


这种精细化训练在口语考试中同样发挥了作用。面对第三部分“城市现代化与旅游业发展”的深度讨论,崔砚涵迅速联想到课堂上的“城市化与环境影响”探究项目。“当时我们小组用英文制作了PPT并模拟辩论,这种实战演练让我学会了如何快速组织语言、回应复杂问题。”最终,她以流利的表达和逻辑清晰的论述,在口语部分拿下6.5分。 

This meticulous training also shone in the speaking test. During Part 3’s discussion on “urbanization and tourism,” Grace recalled a class project on “urban development and environmental impact,” where she practiced debate and presentation skills. Her fluent responses earned a 6.5 in speaking.

课外拓展,让英语学习“活”起来
Extracurricular Expansion




如果说课堂是根基,课外活动则是崔砚涵英语能力的“加速器”。她将课外拓展分为三大板块:

Grace’s extracurricular activities accelerated her language mastery: 


1. 原版阅读——打开世界的另一扇“窗” 


从《蝇王》中的人性隐喻,到《巴别塔》的文化冲突,崔砚涵的阅读清单里不乏艰深作品。“刚开始读《大镰刀》时,一页要查十几次词典,但坚持下来后,发现自己的词汇量和文化理解力有了质的飞跃。”她分享道。

Tackling works like Lord of the Flies and Babel, she expanded vocabulary while grappling with cultural themes.

2. 竞赛实战——在压力中淬炼能力 


SPBCN国际英文拼词大赛中,她曾因紧张忘词而止步华南赛区八强,但这段经历却让她学会了“用词根词缀推理陌生词汇”;WSDA辩论赛中,她与队友围绕“人工智能伦理”激辩三轮,最终以“最佳辩手”身份晋级全国赛。“辩论教会我如何用英语精准输出观点,而不是单纯背诵模板。”

From the SPBCN Spelling Bee (reaching the Top 8 in South China) to WSDA debates on “AI Ethics,” she honed quick thinking and persuasive communication.   


3. 演讲进阶——用声音传递思想 


目前,崔砚涵正为常春藤演讲比赛亚太总决选做准备。她的选题是“全球化背景下的文化认同”,灵感来自IB课程中的跨文化研究。“我希望通过演讲,让更多人看到语言不仅是工具,更是思想的载体。”

Preparing for the Ivy League Speech Contest’s Asia-Pacific Finals, her topic—“Cultural Identity in Globalization”—reflects IB cross-cultural studies. “Language isn’t just a tool; it carries ideas,” she emphasized.

备考策略:科学规划+心理调适
Test - preparation Strategies




首考即高分,离不开科学的备考策略。崔砚涵将三个月备考期分为三个阶段: 

Achieving high scores in the first exam relies on a scientifically planned study strategy. Grace divided the three-month preparation period into three stages:


- 基础巩固期:每天精听一篇BBC新闻,逐句听写并模仿发音; 

-Foundation Reinforcement Stage: Listen to one BBC news article every day, transcribe it sentence by sentence, and mimic pronunciation.


- 专项突破期:针对写作弱项,每周完成两篇大作文并提交Mr.T批改; 

-Specialized Breakthrough Stage: Focus on writing weaknesses, completing two essays each week and submitting them for correction by Mr. T.


- 模拟冲刺期:严格按照考试时间进行机考模拟,适应屏幕阅读和打字节奏。 

-Simulation and Sprint Stage: Strictly follow the exam schedule for computer-based practice tests to get used to screen reading and typing rhythm.


面对压力,她也有独特的调适方法:“每次焦虑时,我会翻看《哈利波特》英文原版——熟悉的剧情能让我放松,同时保持语感。”

When facing pressure, she has her own unique way to adjust: "Whenever I feel anxious, I flip through the English version of Harry Potter—the familiar plot helps me relax while maintaining my language sense."




未来计划:逆水行舟,步履不停
Future Plans




“学习如逆水行舟,不进则退。”崔砚涵同学表示,未来计划围绕两大方向展开: 

"Learning is like rowing against the current; if you don’t move forward, you will fall behind." Grace says that her future plans will focus on two main directions:

1. 学术深化:在IB课程中进一步提升研究性论文写作能力,尤其关注“语言与权力”等社会语言学议题; 

Academic Deepening: Further enhance research paper writing skills in the IB curriculum, with a particular focus on sociolinguistic issues such as "Language and Power."


2. 实践拓展:参与模联、国际志愿者等项目,在实践中提升跨文化沟通能力。 

Practical Expansion: Participate in Model United Nations (MUN), international volunteer programs, and other projects to improve cross-cultural communication skills.

“我的终极目标是进入牛津大学攻读比较文学专业,用英语这座桥梁,探索人类文明的多样性。”她坚定地说。

"My ultimate goal is to enter Oxford University to pursue a degree in Comparative Literature and use English as a bridge to explore the diversity of human civilization," she said firmly.


崔砚涵同学的优异成绩,既是个人努力的见证,也是华外“全人教育”理念的生动体现。学校通过IB课程体系、多元竞赛平台和个性化辅导,为学子搭建起通往世界的阶梯。正如校长所言:“我们期待每一位华外学子都能在语言中汲取力量,在挑战中定义自我。”

Grace’s success is a testament to personal dedication and HW’s commitment to holistic education.
