Year 2 Tigers' Board Game Project: Creation, Reflection & Growth

Written by Mr. Russell, February 2025.

In Mr. Russell's Year 2 Tigers English class, we recently completed an exciting and creative group project where learners collaborated to design their own board games. This project required students to create rules, draft trivia questions, and design the game board itself. More than just a fun activity, this task was carefully aligned with the highest order of Bloom's Taxonomy — creating — as students synthesized ideas, problem-solved, and communicated their concepts effectively.

To deepen the learning experience, I introduced an individual reflection worksheet with simple, accessible questions about their contributions, challenges, and takeaways. Self-reflection is more than just a summary of what was done — it is a crucial part of fostering metacognition. By thinking about their own thinking, students become more aware of their learning processes, recognize their strengths and areas for improvement, and ultimately take greater ownership of their educational journey.

Looking ahead, I plan to build in more structured roles and check-ins during future group projects to ensure every student has a voice and an active part to play. This experience has not only highlighted the creative potential of our learners but also emphasized the importance of thoughtful reflection and inclusive collaboration.

How Internet Culture Influences Us: A GP Project of Y10 & 11 Students

Written by Ms. Melissa, February 2025.

In Year 10 and 11, students are currently working on an exciting and insightful project titled *How Internet Culture Influences Us*.

This project is an intensive study that explores the profound impact of the internet on various aspects of modern life. Focusing specifically on language, fashion, and music, the project encourages students to delve into how digital platforms shape trends, communication, and social behavior around the world.

Through the study of language, students examine how internet slang, memes, and abbreviations have evolved and spread globally, influencing both everyday conversation and formal communication. In the realm of fashion, the project highlights how social media influencers, viral trends, and online platforms like Instagram and TikTok drive fashion choices, often transcending borders and cultures.

Music is another key focus, as students explore how the internet has revolutionized music distribution, access to global genres, and the rise of online music communities.

This project is part of the Global Perspective Celebration of Learning, where students not only enhance their research and analytical skills but also gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of global cultures. By investigating these trends, students are gaining valuable insights into how internet culture shapes identity, global trends, and the way we interact in today's digital world.

We look forward to inviting parents to the showcase soon.

Exciting STEAM Competition: Designing a Future City!

Written by Mr. Dickson, February 2025.

This week, our talented students from Years 3 to 6 embarked on an exciting journey to design a future city as part of our annual STEAM competition. This project encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, providing a unique opportunity for our young innovators to envision and build the cities of tomorrow.

The Project Kickoff

The competition began with students diving into the initial design stage, where they explored various aspects of city infrastructure. They considered essential elements such as transportation systems, energy sources, water supply, waste management, and public spaces. Additionally, they discussed the needs of the citizens, including housing, healthcare, education, and recreational facilities. This comprehensive approach ensured that their city designs would be both functional and sustainable.

Building the City Models

Armed with their innovative ideas, the students then moved on to the hands-on phase of the project. Using a variety of materials such as cardboard, plastic, and recycled items, they began constructing detailed models of their future cities. This creative process not only allowed them to bring their visions to life but also taught them valuable lessons in resourcefulness and teamwork.

Learning Outcomes

Through this project, students are gaining a wealth of knowledge and skills, including:

- Problem-Solving: Tackling real-world challenges and finding practical solutions.

- Collaboration: Working together, sharing ideas, and learning from one another.

- Creativity: Thinking outside the box to design innovative and sustainable cityscapes.

- Technical Skills: Applying principles of engineering and technology in their models.

- Environmental Awareness: Understanding the importance of sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Their future cities are not only a testament to their hard work but also a glimpse into the bright future they are capable of creating. Stay tuned for updates as the competition progresses and we reveal the winning designs! Let's cheer on our young architects and engineers as they continue to build their dreams!
