‘Three Parties Conference’
The core of learning lies in the child. Our school's unique ‘Three Parties Conference’ parent-teacher conference invites students to become an important member of the talks, with the family as the basic unit, and the classroom teacher and teachers to carry out one-on-one, face-to-face in-depth exchanges and discussions.
Unlike traditional parent-teacher conferences where the teacher speaks and the parents listen, the focus of the tripartite talks is on the child. This is not only an enhancement of the children's self-knowledge, but also a vivid embodiment of the concept of home-school co-education in practice, which lights up a bright light for the children's future growth.
When schoolchildren expect to ‘invite the parents’
The ‘Three Parties Conference’ is not comparable to a parent-teacher conference in the ordinary sense, it is a bridge of emotional communication between home and school, between teachers and students, and between parents and children, and a link of understanding and empathy.
At the beginning of the semester, our Primary, Junior and Senior Schools held a ‘Three Parties Conference’. On that day, the students, dressed in neat and tidy uniforms, entered the familiar but solemn campus side by side with their parents, full of anticipation and excitement for the upcoming meeting.
In the talks, children, parents and teachers sit around the table, communicating as equals and discussing issues of learning and life together. Children are no longer passive recipients of criticism, but become active participants who share and seek help. This change in atmosphere allows children to feel the power of being respected and understood, and they begin to have the courage to express their views, face their own shortcomings, and seek ways to grow.
Students as ‘facilitators’
of Three Parties Conference
The first part of the ‘Three Parties Conference’ is for the students to present to their teachers and parents their learning achievements, deep reflections, and personal goals. In this session, the ‘Growth Profile’ plays a crucial role as a bridge and core medium of communication, which is not only a record book full of the child's growth, but also an opportunity for spiritual communication.
In the course of the presentation, the scholars shared their new discoveries and understandings in the study of various subjects in an eloquent manner. At the same time, they also frankly analysed the difficulties and deficiencies they encountered in the course of their studies, as well as the specific plans they made to overcome these difficulties.
Parents are both listeners and speakers
During the 'Three Parties Conference', parents were not only listeners but also active participants and decision makers. They have in-depth one-on-one conversations with the classroom teacher and each of the classroom teachers, through which parents are able to gain a comprehensive understanding of their child's academic, emotional, and social performance.
During such interactions, parents began to realise that home-school co-operation is not the result of the joint efforts of home and school. Together with the teachers, they had an in-depth discussion on how to develop more effective home-school co-operation and how to give their children more precise learning support.
A series of home-school strategies aimed at helping students make progress have been developed through tripartite discussions among parents, teachers and students. These strategies not only take into account the individual differences of students, such as their interests, learning habits, psychological characteristics, etc., but also take full account of the resource advantages of both the home and school sides, such as the educational resources of the school and the care and support of the family.
On that day, the school specially honoured those students who have demonstrated excellence in both academics and conduct. The school and parents extend their warmest congratulations to them, and wish them to continue to shine in the future and become the pillars of society.
‘Three Parties Conference’
We believe that every child can be a success. Through the ‘Three Parties Conference’, our school endeavours to reach out to each child and promote home-school co-operation.
