Building upon the triumphs of the "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Lei Yu" productions, IG2 drama students brought to life a captivating rendition of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." This film endeavor not only exemplified the "learning by doing" philosophy but also allowed students to apply theories of performance, stage direction, script writing, and film editing.

Additionally, this production highlighted the correlation of transferable skills across diverse subjects. Given the novel's rich descriptive language, students immersed themselves in bringing vivid scenes to life, aiding their preparation for language analysis tasks in the EFL exam.

The film production underscored the values of independent learning and teamwork, with each student directing an act and crafting their filming plan. Collaboratively, they navigated the complexities of film editing from scratch, showcasing creativity, flexibility, passion, and resilience throughout the process.

Furthermore, the inclusion of non-drama students in various roles and editing tasks played a crucial role in the success of the production, fostering a sense of unity and shared achievement among all participants.

The first step

There were quite a lot of difficulties that we had to handle, specifically the last few days, since we had to join everything for the big day, and everything depended on everyone, if someone didn’t do the work, then we weren’t going to make it. Many of us were about to throw the towel, but we knew that we weren’t going to give up, we are not known for giving up, and we will never be known for that.”

One of the reasons that I love my team is that when the situation appears to be dark, they joined forces and created a sun to light up the sky, making anything possible and creating amazing memories.

Like any production, there were obstacles along the way. Completing the project on time was a significant challenge, as setting up scenes, filming, and editing required careful planning and effort. Despite these difficulties, the support of classmates and the guidance of Ms. Jing helped maintain motivation. Encouragement from other students played a key role in ensuring the production was successfully completed.

As we reflect on the preparation process, one of the most unforgettable and decisive moments was deciding what each person's role is. Playing a different role means that everyone's lines are more or less substituted by the emotions of different characters, especially the role of the first ghost who appeared and the role of Belle. It took a lot of time to memorize a lot of lines of both characters. When I acted, I was afraid that I would make mistakes, but when I played all of them, I couldn't help but exhale a breath and feel relaxed. What's more, the two characters have completely different styles. At the same time, I needed to adjust the language, speaking style, and speed, which made me feel very challenged, but the moment I saw the film, I felt that everything was worth it.

当我们回顾整个准备过程时，最令人难忘且至关重要的时刻之一，就是确定每个人的角色。扮演不同的角色意味着台词不仅仅是简单的朗读，而是要融入不同角色的情感，尤其是第一个幽灵和贝尔这两个角色。我花了很长时间去记住他们大量的台词。

在表演时，我一度担心自己会出错，但当我真正演完所有场景后，我忍不住长舒一口气，终于放松下来。更具挑战的是，这两个角色的风格截然不同，我需要不断调整语言表达、语调、语速，这对我来说是一项极大的挑战。然而，当我最终看到电影成品时，我觉得一切努力都值得了。

It wasn’t easy to get ready for drama. Students had to balance their own schoolwork with filming, memorising the script, and editing the film. Some students were scared to perform and there were problems with props, sound, and filming room. But the team kept going because all members were supporting each other. They wanted to make something amazing, and that kept them motivated.

准备这部戏剧并不容易。学生们需要在学业、拍摄、背诵剧本和影片剪辑之间找到平衡。有些同学对表演感到紧张，同时我们还遇到了道具、音效和拍摄场地方面的问题。然而，整个团队始终坚持下去，因为每个成员都在相互支持。他们想要打造一部真正精彩的作品，正是这种信念让他们不断前进。

从最初的角色分配到最终的电影上映，这次戏剧制作之旅充满了挑战与成长。台词的背诵、表演的调整、突发的补拍、道具与场地的限制，每一个环节都考验着我们的耐心和毅力。然而，正是这些挑战，让我们在一次次尝试中不断突破自己。面对时间紧迫的压力，我们曾焦虑、曾疲惫，甚至有过放弃的念头，但最终，团队的支持、彼此的鼓励和对作品的热爱，让我们坚持到了最后。

From the initial role assignments to the final film screening, this drama production journey was filled with challenges and growth. Memorizing lines, adjusting performances, reshooting scenes, and dealing with limitations in props and venues—every step tested our patience and perseverance. However, it was precisely these challenges that pushed us to break through our limits time and time again. Faced with the pressure of tight deadlines, we felt anxious, exhausted, and even had moments of wanting to give up. But in the end, the support of our team, the encouragement from one another, and our passion for this project kept us going.

When the film was finally screened at the IG2 Assembly, the laughter, applause, and praise from the audience made us realize that all our efforts had been worthwhile. The enthusiastic feedback from the audience, the amazement of parents, and the discussions on social media all proved the success of our work. This was not just a drama film—it was a journey of collaboration, creativity, and perseverance.
