Throughout his school years, Daniel was like a brave adventurer, constantly moving between different educational systems. From primary to senior school, he kept switching paths – bouncing between homeschooling, specialist music education, public schools, private schools, and faith schools. All these jumps from one system to another gave him firsthand experience of how differently schools can teach and what distinct "vibes" each educational environment carries.
Daniel最喜欢Whitman写的一首叫O Me O Life的诗:
“My favorite lines come from Whitman's poem ‘O Me! O Life!’:
That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.”
These verses embody Daniel's optimism through all of life's varied experiences.
Ms. Sisi Chen, his college counselor, shared her observation: "Daniel is everything you’d picture in a well-rounded student. He’s made pursuing excellence and spiritual growth his lifelong journey and true calling."
Recently, Daniel secured a full scholarship to attend The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), becoming the first student at FCG to achieve a triple crown of academic honors: full scholarships in Hong Kong, offers from Top 30 U.S. universities, and admission to one of the UK’s G5 elite institutions. His total scholarship awards amount to approximately ¥3.6 million.
Fueled by Curiosity
From Classical Guitar to New Horizons
"If I had to describe myself in three words, I’d pick curiosity, adaptability, and independence."
Music used to be a huge part of Daniel’s life. Back in middle school, he threw himself into learning classical guitar and even thought about making it his career. “But the more I got into music,” he said, “the more I saw how tough it is to make a living as a classical guitarist in China—the career path remained narrow.”
After carefully weighing his options, Daniel made a rational and mature decision: to keep music as a lifelong passion rather than a profession. He chose a more balanced path by transitioning to an international school, where he could continue exploring academic interests while maintaining his connection to music. By staying clear-headed about his options and working with what he had, he figured out how to set himself up for the future.
Adaptability & Independence
Building Resilience Through Constant Change
After transitioning to FCG, Daniel faced entirely new academic challenges. His foundational knowledge was shaky—as a 10th grader, his math skills were at a middle school level, his English had major gaps, and he’d never taken a chemistry class. Faced with these gaps after the transition, rather than feeling defeated, these challenges lit a fire in Daniel. He became convinced that with stubborn grit and relentless effort, he could turn things around and create his own success story.

At FCG, every student receives individualised learning plans and focused academic coaching. For Daniel, this support proved transformative within a single year; he closed knowledge gaps in IGCSE coursework and boosted his IELTS scores to advanced levels.
“My entire G10 was an intensive catch-up marathon. Days were spent practicing past IGCSE papers, nights cramming IELTS vocabulary on the ‘BuBei DanCi’app. I lagged behind in exploring majors, but winning the school scholarship taught me this: When you’re lost, push controllable tasks to the limit first.”
To master formula connections between Electric Field Strength, Gravitational Field Strength, and Centripetal Force, Daniel bombarded Mr. Bowen, his Physic teacher with series questions. “Instead of forcing rote memorisation, Mr. Bowen would excitedly derive the equations with me—keeping that spark of curiosity alive.”
“Economics teacher Ms. Chloe is not only dedicated to teaching us to accurately reproduce the knowledge learned in class onto the exam papers, but also meticulously identifies the inadequacy in my economic essays' arguments for both sides, providing a clearer logical chain to make my output more rigorous and organized.
During the preparation period for the economics olympiad, Ms. Chloe also offered me significant assistance: apart from guiding me strategically to study some A2 chapters in advance to cover the syllabus, when encountering more in-depth competitive market models than those in the curriculum, she would discuss with me how to apply calculus and differentiation to calculate supply and demand functions and find the equilibrium point of interests.”
“Whenever homework frustration hit, Mr. JC would wander over to chat about the good weather or crack jokes about classmates’ goofy smiles. Suddenly, the stress melted away.”
“There is a convergence in every subject. Lenz's law in physics, Le Chatelier's principle in chemistry, and the automatic stabilizers of economics are like interdisciplinary "patrol teams" — whenever the physical magnetic field, chemical equilibrium, or economic fluctuations slightly overstep their bounds, they quietly activate counter-tensions to bring the system back to a stable state.”
During the interview, one unforgettable FCG moment after another resurfaced in Daniel’s memory.
Economics Revelation
Finding Answers at the Crossroads
of Numbers and Humanities
"Ever wonder why some stuff that's cheap back home costs a fortune abroad? Given China's strength, shouldn't the RMB hold greater value? These questions initially sparked my curiosity, but I later discovered that macro-level international monetary policies in economics provide the answers."
Daniel delved into the diverging perspectives and theoretical differences among economic schools, such as the Keynesian advocacy for government intervention versus the neoclassical free-market school. He explored how Keynesianism rose during post-WWII reconstruction and how Friedrich Hayek's theories flourished amid the 1980s capital market boom. Daniel applied his economics knowledge to real-world issues, like using behavioral economics' risk preference theory to explain cognitive disparities in household decision-making. This journey not only deepened his passion and comprehension of economics but also strengthened his academic research and practical skills, laying a solid foundation for his future advancement in the field.
His fascination with economics drove him to actively participate in competitions and research initiatives. Collaborating with teammates nationwide, he tackled specialised topics like market analysis and qualitative business models, continuously strengthening his grasp of economic theory and practice. Through competitions like FBLA and SIC, he expanded his expertise while refining his practical abilities and teamwork spirit.
Between Spotlight and Study
A Tale of Two Passions
As head event planner for the student council, Daniel turned the "FCG Coming of Age Ceremony & Boarding Summer Ball" into campus legend—but not without hurdles. With initial funding falling short, he canvassed tirelessly to secure sponsorships from school administrators and local businesses. Team coordination proved equally demanding: mediating conflicts, redistributing tasks, and maintaining morale during late-night setup marathons.
“Leadership, I realized, isn’t about the spotlight; standing apart, receiving honors, and bearing burdens but stepping forward to take responsibility and stepping back for others to shine.”
Participating in the drama club was another wonderful experience in his senior school life. During the process of rehearsing the musical Hamilton, he and the club members faced the challenges of selecting songs and dealing with the difficulty of rehearsals together: the complex dance moves in the original musical were beyond their reach. However, they didn't give up because of this. Instead, they flexibly adjusted their strategies and simplified the movements - converting elaborate group sequences into interactive moments where actors leaped offstage to engage the audience. At the same time, by drawing on the experience of the adapted versions, they finally presented a visually stunning performance.

When asked about his dreams and ultimate aspirations, Daniel grins and said, "I want to become a development economist." He hopes to participate in formulating economic policies, eliminate the biases in financial investment within religions and traditional cultures. At the same time, he also wants to design suitable educational plans to enable the next generation of young people to make more comprehensive and rational economic decisions.
