As part of our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) theme "How We Organise Ourselves", our young learners in EY2 have been exploring jobs and professions in our community. Recently, we had the joy of welcoming a talented local artist, Ms. Zoe, who guided the children through a delightful art project: creating their very own rainbow night light. This rainbow theme is especially meaningful as it also connects to our Charity Month, symbolizing hope and support for those in need.

Artist Visit

Ms. Zoe's visit was filled with excitement and creativity. She introduced the children to the concept of being an artist and encouraged them to express themselves through colours. The children eagerly participated in the rainbow night light project, using their hands to paint and assemble their night lights. This hands-on activity not only sparked their creativity but also helped develop their fine and gross motor skills.

During the lamp-making process, the children practiced essential fine motor skills. They improved their grasping and holding abilities while using paintbrushes and markers, enhancing their hand strength. As they painted and coloured, they refined their hand-eye coordination, learning to control their movements with precision. The children also engaged in cutting and assembling the night light parts, which required careful manipulation and dexterity.

在制作彩虹灯的过程中,孩子们锻炼了多项手部精细动作技能。比如,他们在使用画笔刷和马克笔的同时提升了抓握能力,并增强了手部力量。在涂色的过程在,孩子们的手眼协调能力得到提升,动作控制也变得更加精准。此外,通过剪裁和组装夜灯部件,他们的操作能力和手指灵活度都获得了显著提高。



Rainbows Can Talk

As they worked, the room was alive with chatter and laughter. The children enthusiastically discussed the colours they wanted to use, each sharing their ideas about what their rainbows would look like. This collaborative spirit allowed them to engage their imaginations, creating unique stories around their colourful creations. When the night lights were completed, their faces lit up with joy and pride, as they admired their vibrant works of art.

整个活动过程教室里都充满着欢声笑语。孩子们踊跃的讨论他们想用的颜色,并分享他们心中彩虹的样子。在充满想象与合作的氛围下,每个孩子都沉浸在属于自己的彩色世界中。作品完成以后,孩子们欣赏自己作品的同时他们脸上都洋溢着自豪与喜悦。



Interdisciplinary Learning, Riding the Rainbow to Literacy

The experience didn't end with the art project. After creating their night lights, the children were inspired to express their thoughts and stories during our literacy lesson. They shared their ideas about their rainbows, connecting their artistic work to their learning. This integration of art and literacy allowed them to explore language in a fun and imaginative way.
