Our recent residential trip to Dapeng for Years 11–13 provided students with a valuable opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Despite an initial delay due to a typhoon, students set off with determination and enthusiasm, demonstrating resilience before the journey had even begun.
Throughout the week, the programme combined adventure with personal growth. Activities such as sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and coastal hiking challenged students to step outside their comfort zones, developing perseverance, problem-solving, and confidence. On land, team-based challenges, from sandcastle building to campsite setup, strengthened collaboration and communication skills. Camping overnight required adaptability and teamwork, as students worked together to pitch tents, cook meals, and share responsibilities.

Equally important were the reflective aspects of the trip. Each evening, students gathered for “Toot Toot” sessions, where they expressed gratitude and acknowledged the contributions of peers. These moments nurtured empathy, appreciation, and a sense of community—qualities as essential to education as academic success.
By the time students returned, they carried more than memories of sun and sea. They brought back strengthened friendships, increased self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of the importance of teamwork and resilience. The Dapeng residentials reinforced our commitment to holistic education, shaping character and preparing students for life’s challenges.
