Reading is Joy 看外教课堂,如何把二年级学生变成自信的小读者!

大家好!我是国际教师Cristian老师,我特别享受教二年级孩子们阅读的时光。

在我的课堂上,阅读可不是一件枯燥的事。我希望每个孩子都觉得读书有意思、自己能读得懂。

那我们是怎么做的呢?

Teaching reading to second graders is both a challenge and a joy. At this age, students are still developing the foundational skills that will shape their lifelong relationship with books. My approach focuses on creating a classroom environment where reading feels purposeful, enjoyable, and achievable for every child. I believe that young learners need structure, consistency, and motivation to build real confidence in reading.

译文:教二年级学生阅读,既充满挑战,又乐趣无穷。这个年龄段的孩子,正在培养良好的阅读习惯。我的教学核心在于,让每个孩子都觉得阅读是有目的的、快乐的,并且是自己能够做到的。我认为,低年级学生需要系统的指导、持续的训练和有效的激励,才能建立起真正的阅读自信。



My teaching approach is carefully structured to support students’ learning, so lessons are designed around helping students recognize and understand the essential parts of a book and class routine. 

我的课是专门设计过的,帮孩子弄懂一本书和上课流程是怎么回事。


First of all, activating prior knowledge builds curiosity and prepares students to connect new ideas with what they already know.Secondly, we explore a book’s cover elements (title, author, setting, and characters). Third, we help students become aware of the 5W questions—who, what, where, when, why, and how—to give them the basic elements of reading comprehension.

一开始,先让他们想想自己已经知道的东西,这样能引起兴趣,也容易把新的和旧的连起来学。接着,我们会一起看书皮上有什么——书名、作者、故事发生在哪儿、有谁。然后教他们用“谁、做了什么、在哪儿、什么时候、为什么、怎么样”这几个问题来理解故事,这是读懂书的基本功。


In addition, we focus on four main fluency areas: expression, rate, intonation, and phrasing. Students practice reading with emotion, keeping a steady group pace, using correct punctuation sounds, and grouping words meaningfully. We read together in groups, practice pacing, and use punctuation cues to add meaning. This is also where I model reading strategies, demonstrating how to pause, emphasize, or use tone to express emotion. Students read aloud, listen to each other, and give gentle feedback in a supportive atmosphere. I find it important to teach not only the mechanics of reading but also the emotional and expressive side of it.

我们还特别练习怎么把文章读得顺溜,包括:带感情地读、速度合适、语调有变化、知道在哪里停顿。大家一起读,互相听,也学着给对方提建议。我觉得,不光要教他们认字,还得教他们读出感觉来。



Reading brings many opportunities to share what we learn—what better way is there than teaching students to understand and recognize the structure of any story (beginning, middle, and end)? Students can understand the story flow and later learn how to summarize clearly to share with their friends.

读书能学到东西,还能跟别人分享。一个好办法就是教他们看懂每个故事都有开头、中间和结尾。这样他们就能理清故事顺序,以后也能学着把故事讲清楚,分享给朋友。



The last approach I focus on, though not the least important, is extending comprehension and reading through creative activities. Students participate in small group projects that help them apply what they have learned from the book. These activities can include sequencing pictures, acting out scenes, creating objects, connecting pieces, or making vocabulary posters. Not all students learn in the same way, so these projects are designed to engage different learning styles—visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and social. This approach ensures that every student has the opportunity to connect with the story in a meaningful way.

最后一点也很重要,就是通过一些好玩的活动来加深理解。比如排图片顺序、表演故事、做手工、做单词海报这些小组活动。因为每个孩子学东西的方式不一样,有的爱看,有的爱听,有的爱动手,所以得用不同的活动让每个孩子都能用自己的方式喜欢上这个故事。


In the classroom, these strategies translate into a lively and positive atmosphere. Students follow clear routines: before class, they prepare their desks and materials using a visual guide, promoting independence and responsibility. Positive behavior is encouraged through reward cards and sticker prizes, while expectations are communicated consistently.

在课堂上,用了这些方法后,气氛特别好,大家都很积极。孩子们上课前会按提示自己准备好东西,越来越自觉。表现好了有奖励卡、贴纸,规矩也一直跟他们说得很清楚。


I believe that by combining structure with creativity, I can foster not only reading skills but also curiosity, teamwork, and joy for learning. My ultimate goal is to help students see reading as more than just decoding words—it is a window to understanding the world, sharing ideas, and discovering who they are as learners and readers.

我相信,把有计划的教法和好玩的创意结合起来,不仅能让孩子学会读书,还能让他们有好奇心、爱跟人合作、学得开心。我最希望的是,孩子们能明白,读书不只是认字——它能帮他们看懂世界、分享想法,还能发现自己是个什么样的学习者和读者。
