Primary Choir Brings Festive Cheer to the British Consulate General

BY Mr. Nathaniel Brawn

Head of Primary Music

On Wednesday, our Primary Choir had the privilege of performing at the British Consulate General in Guangzhou. This was a very special opportunity and a memorable way to begin the festive season.

In the weeks leading up to the event, our singers have shown exceptional dedication. Even after ASAs officially ended, they continued to give up their lunchtimes and after-school time to rehearse, refining their sound and growing in confidence. It has been wonderful to see how far they have come since their performance at BSG’s 20th Anniversary celebrations earlier this term.

Their programme featured a joyful mixture of traditional carols and festive favourites, including Once in Royal David’s City (featuring beautiful solo openings from Athena, Sophia, Riya, Diya and Yihan), White Christmas (complete with a little lyrical nod to Guangzhou!), and Jingle Bells with real jingle bells and even a whip!

The students thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Consul General, who was warm, welcoming, and genuinely delighted by the children’s performance. To top off an already magical evening, the choir were surprised with festive goodie bags as a thank-you for sharing their music and spirit.

It was a truly uplifting way to usher in the Christmas season and a proud moment for every singer involved. We couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead for the choir as we move into the new year.

Year 13 Extended Project Qualification Showcase

BY Mr.David Slade

Head of Secondary

Slide Preview Up

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a nationally recognised qualification in England and Wales, equivalent to half an A-level. It allows students to choose a topic of personal interest, carry out in-depth research, and produce either a written report, a creative product, or an event. The project culminates in a formal presentation, which is assessed as part of the qualification. Universities value the EPQ highly, as it demonstrates independent learning, critical thinking, and academic skills.

We had the privilege of watching five of our amazing students deliver their assessed EPQ presentations to an audience of fellow students and parents. Each presentation showcased months of dedication, research, and creativity, and it was inspiring to see the confidence and passion with which they shared their work.

Their project titles can be seen below:

  • Go: To what extent will autonomous driving surpass human capabilities, and what areits limitations?

  • Mark: To what extent should illegal immigration be allowed into a nation: Aphilosophical, political and economic analysis on the United States.

  • Alex: Building a Functional Plasma Actuator: A Hands-On Exploration of Flow Control Technology

  • Lucas: Investigating chaos in the double pendulum.

  • Homan: To what extent can CRISPR-Cas9 be considered a feasible and ethical solution for treating monogenic disorders?

The event was a wonderful celebration of student achievement and a reminder of the depth of talent and curiosity within our school community. We congratulate all five students on reaching this milestone and look forward to seeing how their projects continue to shape their academic journeys.
