As the second term begins, learning across our Early Years, Primary, and Secondary stages is already well underway. Through play-based exploration, hands-on practice, creative expression, and academic focus, students across the school are building confidence, skills, and a strong sense of engagement in the new term.

Our Toy Shop Adventure!

Written by Ms. Kate, January 2026

Our nursery Tigers have happily entered the wonderful world of toys! Our new topic, My Toy Shop, is helping children explore and describe different kinds of toys while learning to distinguish between big and small. Through meaningful play, the children are building early language skills, developing concepts of size, and learning to express their ideas with growing confidence.

Learning is full of hands-on fun in Tiger Class. Inside the classroom, the children are becoming master toy makers! Using a wide variety of materials such as recycled boxes, paper, blocks, and craft tools, they are designing and creating their own toys, including toy cars and dolls. They are also learning to draw simple toys step by step, which supports fine motor development, hand–eye coordination, and early drawing skills while boosting confidence.

The children are expressing themselves by introducing their favourite toys to the class. Through these sharing moments, they practice speaking and listening skills while learning to appreciate each other’s ideas and choices.

Outside, our Tigers continue learning through movement and exploration. Games such as the Toy Scavenger Hunt encourage children to search, compare, and name toys in an active and engaging way, bringing new vocabulary to life through play.

From construction indoors to active discovery outdoors, our Tigers are fully immersed in exploring, comparing, creating, and expressing themselves.

Year 1 Tigers & Lions: Learning About Money Through Play

Written by Mr. Samantha, January 2026

This week, Year 1 Tigers had a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with our friends in Year 1 Lions as part of our learning about money. We have been exploring how money works, including recognising prices, paying correctly, and giving change.

To bring this learning to life, the children used fake currency to set up a pretend shop. First, the Tigers became shopkeepers and welcomed the Lions as customers. The children practised reading price tags, taking payment, and working out how much change to give. Later, the roles were reversed, and our Tigers visited the Lions’ classroom to become customers themselves.

There were many great learning moments along the way! Some children quickly realised the importance of giving change, while others were so excited to make a sale that they happily accepted 100 RMB and waved goodbye as the customer walked off with a 5 RMB fan. These moments sparked wonderful discussions about fairness, value, and careful thinking with money.

It was a fun, hands-on experience that helped build both maths skills and confidence through collaboration and play.

Secondary School: New Term Update

Written by Ms. Melissa, January 2026

Welcome back to the new term! We are delighted to see our secondary school community return and are truly excited for the year ahead.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all parents who participated in the recent Parent–Teacher Conferences. Your engagement and support play a vital role in our students’ success, and we greatly appreciate the time you took to connect with our teaching staff.

We are pleased to share that MAP testing for our secondary students went very well. These assessments provide valuable insights that will help guide teaching and learning throughout the year.

Student Council activities are now underway, and we are excited to announce the launch of the Debate Club, organised by Mr Dan. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills. Watch this space for more details in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, we are also excited about several upcoming events. Further information will be shared as plans progress.

Finally, a reminder to our upper secondary families that IGCSE exam submissions will begin in January. We encourage parents to spend some time talking with their students about exam preparation, deadlines, and how best to manage this important period.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to working closely with you to make this a successful and memorable year for our students.

Music Class Primary Stage: Exploring Instruments and Rhythm

Written by Mr. Dika, January 2026

This semester started with understanding and exploring how music is different from one place to another or how music has so many kinds or styles. So far, the Music class has been full of smiles, energy, and lots of music-making for our Primary Stage learners. In the past weeks or days the children have been learning the ukulele, and it has quickly become a classroom favourite. Not only that some of them exploring the sounds of the glockenspiel. They practised how to hold the instrument carefully, tried simple strumming patterns, and explored beginner-friendly chords. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each week as they play together and encourage one another. As for the glockenspiel, sight-reading music has been one of the major goal for the semester  and has been a challenge that the learners are taking up for their musical skills aquirement.

Along with the musical instruments, the children have also been working on rhythm building in a fun and creative way. Using Ta (quarter notes), Ti-ti (eighth notes), and rests, they clapped, tapped, and experimented with creating their own rhythm patterns. Some groups even came up with their own “mini rhythm songs,” which they proudly performed for their classmates!

To bring everything together, we sang cheerful folk songs such as “E Po I Tai Tai E” and “Jumbo Bwana.” The children enjoyed adding their own rhythm beats to the songs, making the performances lively and full of character. They added rhythmic patterns using body percussion while singing along to simple tunes which added understanding the concept of creating music in the classroom.

Overall, it has been a joyful learning experience, and we are so proud of the children's enthusiasm and progress in music class.
