Inspiration from over 10 sharing sessions with bestselling authors and storytellers; cultural classrooms woven with 5 different languages; 5 days of noon-time library challenges; and a cultural parade spanning 3 sub-schools… At ISASC, our annual "World Languages and Book Week" is a vibrant celebration of our deep-rooted reading culture.
10多场与畅销作家与职业故事人的灵感分享,5种语言交织的文化课堂,连续5天午间的图书馆趣味挑战,横跨3大学部的文化巡游……在爱莎科学城,每年的“世界语言与图书周”都是我们深厚阅读文化的一次集中绽放。
However, the true vitality of reading flows through "borderless" everyday moments. As captured in our photography competition — whether by the water, on horseback, or nestled among tree branches — reading has become an inseparable lifestyle for our children.
但阅读的生命力,更流淌在那些“无边界”的日常里。正如摄影大赛所定格的——在水边、在马背、在树桠间,阅读是我们孩子如影随形的生活方式。

Where does this school-wide energy come from and how we ensure readnig truly takes root in every child’s heart? Today, we invite you behind the scenes to see:
这份席卷全校的蓬勃活力从何而来?接下来的内容,我们将带您走进爱莎科学城校园的阅读幕后:
Behind the Scence
阅读幕后

How we turn our scientific leveled booklists into a "secret guide" for navigating the sea of stories?
我们如何将科学分级书单变成孩子穿越书海的“通关秘籍”?
How our library has evolved into a "central hub" for inquiry?
我们如何让图书馆进化为“探究枢纽”?
How we provide "holistic support" to our students through the home-school partnerships?
我们如何通过家校共育对阅读进行“全景守护”?

At ISASC, reading serves as the "compass" for our students’ exploration of the world.
To ensure this journey is both purposeful and profound, we have developed a systematic World Languages Reading List for every grade level. This curated library of 200+ titles is openly accessible across our home-school platforms. Complementing this, our "Parent-Child Shared Reading Guide" extends the depth of inquiry from the classroom into every warm moment of family reading.
在爱莎科学城,阅读是孩子探索世界的“指南针”。
为了让这份探索既有方向,也有深度,我们为每个年级系统制定了《世界语言阅读推荐书单》。这份涵盖200余本精选佳作的资源库,在家校系统中全面开放。我们还同步提供了“亲子共读指南”,让教育的深度不仅留在课堂,更延伸至每一个温馨的家庭阅读时刻。

Primary School: Inquiry in Action Reading is seamlessly integrated with the UOI. By synergizing our curriculum with the in-depth reading guides from the renowned UK authority The Reader Teacher, we have constructed a unique school-based support system tailored to every developmental stage. In September, as children explore "Who We Are," the list features heartwarming stories about identity and growth. By October, as their curiosity shifts toward the natural world, the readings guide them through the mysteries of life and the environment. Here, books become a natural extension of classroom inquiry.
在幼小学部,阅读与探究单元紧密联动。我们结合 The Reader Teacher 针对各年龄段的深度阅读指南,构建了独具校本特色的支撑体系。九月,当孩子们围绕“我们是谁”展开探究时,书单中会出现关于身份与成长的温暖故事;十月,随着对自然与世界的观察加深,阅读内容也引导他们走近生命与环境的奥秘。书本,成为课堂探究的自然延伸。

Secondary School:Data-Driven Growth The approach remains equally structured but adds a layer of precision. We utilize Accelerated Reader (AR) data to match books with students' reading levels, cognitive development, and academic needs. This ensures the challenge is "just right," allowing authentic growth to happen.
进入中学阶段,阅读的设计同样保持系统性。我们在关注学生兴趣的同时,引入 Accelerated Reader 的科学数据,帮助书单更精准地匹配学生的阅读水平、认知发展与学术需求,让挑战恰到好处,让成长真实发生。

A Global Perspective: From Early Years to Grade 12, our curated titles span far beyond core languages like Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese; they also include Spanish, French, and German. Regardless of their grade, students can hear voices from every corner of the globe through the flow of words.
这份阅读指南的另一大特点,是它的广阔视野。从幼儿园到高中,除中、英、韩、日等核心语言外,我们也精选了西班牙语、法语、德语等多语读物。无论身处哪个年级,孩子们都能在文字的流转中,听见来自世界不同角落的声音。

If the booklist is our map, then the library is the campus "energy hub."
Here, reading is more than just quiet page-turning; it is an ongoing journey of inquiry. Through "Reading Passports" and a Token incentive system, every book borrowed and every classroom discovery is recognized and celebrated. We’ve transformed reading into a rewarding experience that students genuinely look forward to.
如果说书单是一张地图,那么图书馆,便是校园里的“能量枢纽”。
在这里,阅读不仅是安静翻书的时刻,更是一场持续发生的探究体验。通过“阅读护照”和 Token 激励机制,每一次借阅、每一次课堂中的发现,都会被看见、被记录、被肯定。阅读,逐渐变成一件有成就感、有期待感的事。

▲ Students Embracing Engaging Library Challenges
学生完成丰富有趣的图书馆挑战
To further fuel this passion, the library acts as a bridge between students and the global literary world, regularly hosting renowned authors and storytellers to inspire our young readers.
Last year, fantasy author Kate O’Hearn and storyteller Barry Stewart Mann planted the literary seeds; this year, British author Matt Beighton and artist Keneilwe take the baton. Matt excels at hooking "reluctant readers" with high-stakes adventure, while Keneilwe brings the raw, ancient charm of oral storytelling.

When students meet authors face-to-face, the worlds within books are no longer distant. As Matt Beighton puts it: “Reading isn’t about filling a head; it’s about starting an adventure.” In these real-world encounters, reading becomes vivid, tangible, and alive.
当孩子们与作家面对面交流,书本中的世界不再遥远。正如 Matt Beighton 所说:“阅读不是为了填满大脑,而是为了开启一场冒险。”在这样的真实相遇中,阅读变得鲜活而可感。

A school’s reading culture ultimately takes root within the family.
To support this, ISASC hosts regular parent workshops focused on language development. In a recent session on "Raising Bilingual Children," our Head of World Languages and Library Team shared insights tailored to different age groups—covering everything from building early habits and parent-child interaction to the crucial role of reading during adolescence.
一所学校的阅读文化,最终要在家庭中延续生根。
围绕阅读与语言发展,爱莎科学城持续开展面向家长的主题课堂。例如,在最近的「双语孩子抚养」专题分享中,我们的世界语言主任与图书馆教师团队结合不同学段的特点,围绕阅读习惯的建立、亲子互动方式,以及青春期阶段阅读的重要性,与家长展开交流。

One parent shared a touching reflection after the session:
一位参与家长在课后这样分享自己的感受:
Through this partnership, reading becomes less of a task and more of a lifestyle—one that connects hearts and nurtures relationships.
这样的家校共育,让阅读不再是一项任务,而是一种连接情感、滋养关系的生活方式。

Reading is the starting point for Inquiry, guiding children to discover the world's wonders in text. It is also the cornerstone of achievement, empowering them to become their best selves through continuous challenge.
阅读是“探究”的起点,引导孩子在文字中发现世界的奇迹;它也是“成就”的基石,支持孩子在持续挑战中成为更好的自己。

When reading is systematically woven into classrooms, campus spaces, and homes, it ultimately equips children with the courage and capability to step onto the global stage. Rooted in Guangzhou with a vision for the Greater Bay Area, we believe reading grants children more than just knowledge: it gives them the freedom to cross cultural borders and the power to take action and shape the future.
当阅读被如此系统地融入课堂、空间与家庭,它最终指向的,是孩子们走向世界的能力与勇气。立足广州,放眼大湾区,我们相信,阅读赋予孩子的,是跨越文化与国界的自由,也是在未来践行行动、改变世界的力量。
