在华外同文，体育从来不是一门“副课”。我们一直觉得，孩子的成长不应该只发生在教室里，操场上、球场上的汗水与笑声，同样是教育很重要的一部分。所以，学校把体育教育放在了很重的位置，尤其是足球和篮球这两个集体项目——它们不仅锻炼身体，更能教会孩子如何与人合作、如何在胜负中站稳自己。

At HW, sports are never a “secondary subject.” We believe children grow not only in classrooms, but also on fields and courts—sweat and laughter are essential parts of education. That’s why HW prioritizes physical education, especially team sports like soccer and basketball. They build fitness, but also teach cooperation and how to handle wins and losses.

为了把这份重视落到实处，学校为孩子们搭建了从课堂到校队的完整路径。每周固定的足球课、篮球课，加上丰富的选修课，再到层层选拔出的校级代表队——每一步都有教练悉心陪伴、耐心打磨。老师们不仅传授技术，更在意孩子们在场上的判断、场下的态度。与此同时，每年校内外足篮球联赛如期举行，让孩子们在真实的竞技中感受拼搏，也收获成长。

To make this happen, the school offers a clear path from class to school teams: weekly soccer and basketball lessons, electives, and tryouts for varsity teams. Coaches guide students on skills, decision-making, and attitude. Annual leagues provide real competition for growth.

就在上周，孩子们又一次整装出发。小学和初中的篮球队、足球队前往佛山，和当地的学校进行了多场友谊赛。小学男女篮、小学女足、中学男足、中学女篮……每一个队伍里，都有孩子第一次站上对外交流的赛场。带队的教练们，不光是教怎么跑位、怎么配合，更多的是在赛前赛后陪着他们去理解什么是合作，什么是尊重，什么是不放弃。Sam教练在总结里写的一句话，特别打动我：“我们的目标不是赢下每一场球，而是让每个孩子都能在比赛中成为更好的自己。”

Last week, our elementary and middle school teams traveled to Foshan for friendly matches—boys’ and girls’ basketball, girls’ soccer, middle school boys’ soccer, girls’ basketball. For many, it was their first away game. Coaches taught positioning and teamwork, but also helped them understand cooperation, respect, and resilience. Sam Coach wrote: “Our goal is not to win every game, but to help each child become a better version of themselves.”

走出去本身，就是一种成长。当孩子们踏上陌生的球场，面对不熟悉的对手，耳边是对方主场观众的呐喊，那种压力是真实的。在这样的压力下，同学们还大比分赢得了比赛，这非常的不容易！而学校想做的，就是把这样的真实送到他们面前——让他们在风雨里跑一跑，在胜负里站一站。

Stepping out is growth in itself. On an unfamiliar court, facing unknown opponents with home crowds cheering against them—that pressure is real. The school brings this reality to them: run in the rain, stand tall in wins and losses.

回过头看这些比赛，最让我们欣慰的，不是那些比分，而是孩子们身上悄悄发生的变化。

Looking back, the most gratifying part is not the scores, but the changes in the children.

有的孩子学会了信任队友。小学篮球男队和女队在场上的默契，不是天生的，是一次次传球、一次次配合里长出来的。他们慢慢明白，一个人再厉害，也比不上五个人心往一处想。

Some learned to trust teammates. The elementary basketball teams’ chemistry came from countless passes and practices. They learned that no individual beats a team of five.

有的孩子学会了扛住压力。中学男足赛前只合练了三次，却能在落后的情况下咬着牙扳平比分。教练说，孩子们在场上学会了沟通，学会了调整，学会了不认输。这份在压力下还能冷静思考的能力，比什么奖杯都珍贵。

Some learned to handle pressure. The middle school boys’ soccer team had only three practices together, yet managed to rally from behind to a draw. The coach said they learned to communicate, adjust, and never give up. That ability to think under pressure is more valuable than any trophy.

未来，我们还会组织更多的校际交流，让每一个华外的孩子都有机会在真实的世界里，去交朋友，去磨性子，去长本事。我们始终相信，体育是最好的教育之一，而平台是最好的催化剂。当学校愿意为孩子多开一扇门，他们一定会还给我们一个更精彩的未来。

Moving forward, we will organize more inter-school exchanges, giving every HW child the chance to make friends, build character, and grow skills in the real world. We believe sports are among the best forms of education, and the right platform is the catalyst. When the school opens more doors, children will return a brighter future.
