Preparing our Year 6 students for the move to secondary school is an important part of the final term, and we have been incredibly fortunate to benefit from the wonderful relationship we have with our secondary colleagues. This strong partnership has allowed our students to begin experiencing life in Year 7 well before the end of the academic year, helping to build excitement, confidence, and familiarity with their next big step.
So far, the students have already taken part in transition lessons in Maths, English, and several Computing sessions in the secondary setting. These experiences have given them a valuable insight into what lessons in Year 7 will feel like, from working in specialist classrooms to meeting teachers from different departments and adapting to slightly different routines and expectations. The children have embraced these opportunities with enthusiasm, showing curiosity, resilience, and a real sense of maturity as they step into a new environment.
Last week, the transition experience continued with a guided tour of the secondary school, where students had the chance to explore key areas of the campus, meet some of the teachers they will be learning with next year, and gather important information about school life. To add a fun and competitive element, they will be putting their knowledge to the test in an upcoming house competition quiz. It has been wonderful to see the excitement building as our students begin to picture themselves as Year 7 learners, and we are confident that these experiences are helping to make the transition feel both positive and familiar.
