Soapbox Derby｜重力狂飙！爱莎科学城第三届肥皂盒赛车现场直击

This June, the ISASC campus welcomed a highly anticipated tradition: the 3rd Annual Soapbox Derby! Here, gravity is the only power, and creativity is the ultimate accelerator. Riding in "chariots" hand-built over a dozen weeks, Grade 7 students staged a pure, hardcore battle of speed！

六月的校园，迎来了爱莎科学城一项传统盛事：第三届肥皂盒赛车挑战赛！在这里，重力是唯一的动力，而创意则是最好的加速器。七年级的学生们坐上历时十数周亲手打造的“战车”，上演了一场纯粹而硬核的速度交锋。

Gripping their steering wheels, racers sought the perfect balance of aerodynamics and stability during their downhill sprint. The roaring cheers blending with the friction of tires instantly ignited the crowd.

参赛选手们紧握方向盘，在顺坡滑下的短暂几秒内，寻找着风阻与平衡的最优解。赛道旁的欢呼声与车轮摩擦地面的声音交织，瞬间点燃全场。

Yet, this thrilling showdown was more than just a game; it was evaluated with rigorous standards. Referees scored each vehicle on aesthetic design, driving stability, sprinting speed and others. Every second on the track was a real-world test of their engineering prowess.

这场对决的评判标准直观且严苛。裁判组紧盯赛道，从车辆的外观设计、行驶稳定性以及冲刺速度等维度进行打分。赛道上的每一秒，都是对学生前期工程设计的实地检验。

When asked about the highlight of the project, students were direct: "The most fun part is the engineering itself. For instance, we figured out how to reduce air resistance, it is something I never thought about when riding vehicles before."

在赛后采访中，被问及最有趣的部分时，学生们的回答非常直接：“最有趣的就是工程学本身。比如我们研究了如何降低空气阻力，之前我使用交通工具时完全没有想过这个问题。”

Such trackside brilliance didn't happen overnight. As the core showcase of the IB MYP Design class, students didn't merely craft; they thoroughly executed the IB MYP Design Cycle: Inquiring and analysing, Developing ideas, Creating the solution, and Evaluating. 

赛道上的惊艳，源自科创教室里的扎实打磨。作为MYP设计课的核心成果展示，学生们并非简单完成手工制作，而是完整践行了IB MYP的设计循环：探究与分析、开发可行方案、创建解决方案、评估。

This heavily tested their teamwork. As one student shared: "We divided tasks: two on the steering system, two on the brakes. We had to cooperate and constantly improve." From scattered wooden boards to polished cars, every tightened screw forged stronger team synergy.

这无疑非常考验团队协作。学生在采访中分享道：“我们组给彼此分配了不同的任务，比如两人去负责转向系统，另外两人去负责刹车系统。在整个过程中需要互相配合，不断改进。”从零散木板到精美赛车，每一次螺丝的拧紧，都是团队默契的升华。

Amid cheers and applause, the 3rd Soapbox Derby successfully concluded, leaving students with far more than just trophies. At ISASC, such project-based learning is the ultimate embodiment of "holistic education." By tackling the core challenge "How to build a high-performance soapbox car?", Grade 7 students broke disciplinary boundaries to study aerodynamics and collaborated to perfect brake systems through trial and error. In doing so, they gained invaluable treasures beyond textbooks: the courage to solve unknown problems and the joy of exploring the real world.

随着欢呼与掌声，第三届肥皂盒赛车挑战赛圆满收官，但留给学生的远不止一座奖杯。在爱莎科学城，我们将这种项目式学习视为“全人教育”的最佳实践。当七年级的学生们围绕“如何造出高性能的肥皂箱车？”这一核心任务，主动打破学科界限研究空气动力学，在反复试错中协同攻克刹车系统时，他们收获了课本之外最宝贵的财富：解决未知问题的勇气与探究现实世界的乐趣。
