CAS(创造·行动·服务)
EE(拓展论文)
TOK(认识论课程)
CAS由Creativity(创造)、Activity(行动)和 Service(服务)三个词语的首字母组成。

TOK(Theory of Knowledge)

TOK Exhibition TOK

Empowering Every Student to Flourish Uniquely through Holistic Education
Since its inception, ISA Liwan has adhered to the vision of "building a multicultural, integrated learning community for holistic education." We have established a comprehensive K-12 IB continuum framework: from the IBPYP (Primary Years Programme) and IBMYP (Middle Years Programme) to the IBDP (Diploma Programme), all of which are fully authorised by the IBO. Drawing upon the IB curriculum framework, ISA Liwan solidifies the foundations of student development across three essential dimensions:
01
Academic Foundation
A Spirit of Inquiry | An Active Quest for Knowledge

ISA Liwan
Inquiry-based learning approach: From the PYP through the MYP to the DP phase, the inquiry-based approach is consistently applied, transforming children from passive recipients of knowledge into active explorers of the world.
A progressively sharpened academic vision: As students advance through school divs, their academic scaffolding rises. Their horizons expand from broad transdisciplinary exploration to deep, refined focus in specific subject areas.
02
Responsibility Foundation
Social Responsibility | The Confidence to Change the World

ISA Liwan
Development of social responsibility: Progressing from 'understanding society' in the PYP, to 'integrating into society' in the MYP, and ultimately 'changing society' in the DP, our students fully practice the principle that actions speak louder than words.
Fostering international-mindedness: Rooted in situational learning within global contexts, our curriculum transcends geographical boundaries to cultivate global citizens with intercultural empathy.
03
Competence Foundation
A Synthesis of Creative and Critical Thinking | Cultural Confidence Rooted in China with a Global Outlook

ISA Liwan
Creative thinking skills: Capitalising on transdisciplinary themes in the PYP and interdisciplinary units in the MYP, students' innovative potential to think outside the box is unleashed.
Critical thinking skills: Refined through interdisciplinary units in the MYP and integrated subjects in the DP, students continuously build an independent, rational framework for critical analysis.
Multi-perspective approaches: By deeply engaging with the DP core, students break free from singular viewpoints, cultivating inclusive and global-minded thinking.
Nurturing cultural confidence: Through the contextualised adaptation and integration of the IB curriculum within China, students anchor themselves in their cultural roots while confidently engaging with the world.
Through a continuous K-12 IB continuum framework, ISA Liwan gradually shapes students into global citizens with multi-dimensional thinking capabilities. By the time students progress to the IBDP phase, they already possess a solid international perspective and critical thinking skills. Globally recognised as one of the most challenging high school curricula, the IBDP is highly regarded by top universities worldwide, giving its students a significant advantage in elite university admissions.
At ISA Liwan, how do we implement a progressive and comprehensive cultivation strategy during the IBDP phase, enabling students to climb academic peaks while flourishing as whole individuals? How do we place equal emphasis on knowledge acquisition and character development, blend critical thinking with an international perspective, and foster a symbiosis of self-breakthrough and balanced growth? Let us step inside the ISA Liwan IBDP curriculum.
ISA Liwan

ISA Liwan IBDP Programme
1
Tailor-Made Growth :
Constructing Unique Pathways

At ISA Liwan, we implement the personalised educational philosophy of "one timetable per student," crafting a bespoke growth path for every learner. The school currently offers over 25 premium IB courses, constructing a diverse matrix of subjects that ensures every student can discover the academic combination that best suits them and unleashes their unique potential.

2
Forward-Looking Strategy :
Seamless Transition via Pre-DP Courses

Embracing a forward-thinking educational approach, ISA Liwan offers a dedicated IBDP Prep Course from Grade 10, helping students smoothly adapt to the transition in learning methodologies.
The school’s systematically constructed Pre-DP curriculum facilitates a stable academic transition across three core dimensions: solidifying academic foundations, transforming learning approaches, and nurturing international literacy.
This strategy of "early planning and early adaptation" ensures a seamless bridge in academic skills when students officially enter the DP phase, whilst fully equipping them with the international perspective and spirit of inquiry expected of an IB learner.

3
Stepped Language Development :
Systematic Standardised Test Programmes

To support the standardised language assessment needs of our high school students, the school has designed a stepped language enhancement system spanning Grades 10 to 12, covering IELTS, TOEFL, and SAT. This coherent and comprehensive training system not only ensures that students achieve their ideal language scores ahead of the university application season, but also focuses heavily on cultivating genuine academic English proficiency, laying a robust foundation for future undergraduate studies abroad.

4
Cultivating the Core :
Holistic Education Beyond Scores

The true essence of education extends far beyond the figures on a report card. The IBDP curriculum demands balanced development across six subject groups, alongside the completion of three core components:
CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)
EE (Extended Essay)
TOK (Theory of Knowledge)
The values championed behind these core components aim to cultivate independent thinking, time management, innovation, and practical skills, alongside social responsibility and a global perspective. This equips ISA students with greater initiative, leadership, and social awareness in their future undergraduate studies, making them highly sought after by top universities.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
CAS is an acronym for Creativity, Activity, and Service. Guided by the core philosophy of CAS, IB students engage in a rich array of co-curricular extension courses and activities, deepening self-awareness from multiple dimensions, enhancing civic consciousness, and strengthening collaborative spirit.

In this academic year’s CAS projects, ISA Liwan IBDP students turned their attention to the wider real world, delivering tangible actions to foster visible changes in their immediate surroundings.
Some explored the phenomena of "information cocoons" and women's rights in the digital age, launching advocacy websites based on empirical research; others focused on youth mental health to create supportive spaces for peers to express themselves and feel understood; while another group gathered feedback and analysed data from daily campus dining services to propose constructive improvements for school life.
Meanwhile, students also expanded the possibilities of CAS through cultural and creative expression: they explored traditional Cantonese seasonal dietary culture to link heritage with healthy living, and authored bespoke IBDP-themed picture books to introduce younger peers to their future academic journeys in a more engaging way.
CAS is not merely a record of activities; it is tangible evidence of our students' capacity to observe the world, identify problems, take proactive action, and serve others, making CAS an essential testament to their authentic personal growth.
Extended Essay (EE)
The EE requires students to select a subject of personal interest, define a research topic, conduct independent academic research, and ultimately write an academic paper. Throughout the EE process, students delve deeply into their chosen topic, formulate arguments, and present compelling evidence, effectively honing the essential skills required for investigative research and paving the way for university-level research.

The curriculum begins with a systematic overview of EE assessment criteria and deadlines to help students outline a clear writing plan. During the topic selection process, students are guided to focus on subject interests, narrow down the scope of research, and master the techniques of formulating research questions through case-based teaching, ensuring the choice is both academic and feasible. In addition, the school library provides specialist training in database usage and literature retrieval, whilst reinforcing strict academic citation conventions.
ISA Liwan integrates EE guidance classes directly into the daily timetable, helping high school students master formal essay-writing methods through systematic academic writing training. This course not only guides students through the process of completing a 4,000-word IB academic paper but also focuses heavily on cultivating their research capabilities and academic literacy.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
TOK is a course that focuses heavily on critical thinking and the inquiry process. By exploring the nature, origins, and limitations of knowledge, it cultivates students' critical analysis and interdisciplinary understanding. It guides students to question cognitive assumptions and reflect on personal biases, thereby establishing a more rational framework of understanding across diverse areas of knowledge.

TOK Exhibition

The unique pedagogical approaches of TOK are vital to achieving these objectives, with the Harkness Discussion being a prime example: in this highly interactive, student-centred model, around a dozen students sit at a seminar table to engage in deep, egalitarian dialogue around central knowledge questions (such as: "To what extent is sense perception a reliable source of knowledge?" or "Is mathematics discovered or invented?").
This interactive model requires students to proactively explore and integrate diverse perspectives from different areas of knowledge and knower positions, articulate their views clearly, respond immediately to challenges, and learn to give constructive feedback, thereby enhancing verbal expression and argumentative skills.
The IBDP programme is more than an academic milestone; it is a transformative journey that enlightens minds and reshapes perspectives. The lifelong learning capacity and global vision it imparts provide our students with robust confidence as they step onto the global stage.

With immense pride and sincerity, ISA Liwan extends its warmest congratulations to the Class of 2026! May you embark upon the wider world carrying the wisdom and character nurtured at ISA. Step fearlessly into the future as cross-disciplinary inquirers, and navigate the waves of tomorrow as the creators of your own brilliant destinies!
