At ISA Science City, students from primary school onwards are required to take part in annual camp teaching. This is a teaching method that allows students to get out of the classroom and engage in practical activities, observe phenomena, search for answers and solve problems in a natural environment. It helps to develop students' practical skills and innovative spirit, improve teamwork and communication between students, and strengthen their physical and mental qualities. 

在爱莎科学城学校,从小学开始,学生就需要参与一年一度的营地教学(户外探究式学习)。这是一种让学生走出教室,在自然环境中进行实践活动、观察现象、寻找答案、解决问题的教学模式,有助于增强学生的实践能力和创新精神,提升学生之间的团队协作和沟通能力,同时增强学生身心素质。



This month, our primary school students were divided into three teams and carried out colourful camp teaching activities in three different locations. Now let's follow the teachers' delicate strokes and enjoy their growth and achievements.

三月,我们的小学学生分成三支队伍,在三个不同的地点开展了丰富多彩的营地教学活动。现在,就让我们跟随老师细腻的笔触,一同领略他们的成长与收获吧!


Grade 1-2

Mr Ben Lepp - G1&2 Camp Team Leader

School should be about new experiences that leave young learners with unforgettable memories. The recent outdoor & survival camping experience that ISA’s grade 1 & 2 students enjoyed in March fit the bill! Students that reflected on their experience were able to tell story after story about “sleeping in tents all night long that they set up themselves”, “learning to tie knots to help build a catapult that threw water on their friends”, or “learning how to filter water using sand, rocks and chocolate” (charcoal), were just a few shared memories, and continue to be talked about.

为每一个学生缔造难忘的学习体验也是一所学校应该做的。本月,爱莎科学城1-2年级的学生参与了一场别开生面的户外营地活动!相信他们在日后回首这段时光时,能够娓娓道来诸多精彩纷呈的记忆,诸如“在亲手搭建的帐篷中度过了难忘的一夜”、“学习结绳技巧,共同制作弹射器,与伙伴们戏水玩耍”或是“掌握用沙子、石头与木炭过滤清水的技能”。这些都将成为他们共同珍藏的片段,且将长久地记于心间。



The real learning experience wasn’t just the fun they had, but in being challenged to do things as a group that they thought would be impossible. For example, when students saw a completed bamboo catapult, they couldn’t imagine that they’d be building one. But through thoughtful instruction from their group leaders and perseverance from themselves, they learned the skills necessary to build one. Once their project was completed, launching water at their friends was much more fun and fulfilling than if they had just been given a completed catapult to play with. Students learned that the process is more important than the final product!

真正的学习体验,并非仅在于过程中的欢愉,更在于孩子们作为团队面对挑战、完成看似不可能的任务时的成长与蜕变。例如,当孩子们目睹一个精美的竹制弹射器时,他们或许从未想过自己也能亲手制作。然而,在小组长的精心指导和自身的不懈努力下,他们不仅学会了制作弹射器的技巧,更在完成后向朋友发射水柱,那份成就感与乐趣远胜于直接玩耍成品。在此过程中,孩子们深刻体会到,过程的价值往往超越最终的产品。

This pattern was repeated throughout the two days of our Grade 1-2 camping experience and as educators we know they will carry many memories and a few new important skills with them for the rest of their lives.

在这为期两天的露营活动中,类似的体验层出不穷。作为教育工作者,我们深知,这次活动将在孩子们的成长道路上留下宝贵的回忆,同时赋予他们新的重要技能,为未来的生活增添无限可能。



Grade 3

Mr Andrew Davidson - G3 Camp Team Leader

Grade 3's trip to Huizhou was an exciting adventure filled with lots of learning. Firstly, I want to say a big congratulations to all our Grade 3 students. They showed kindness, empathy, bravery, and good manners. Their behaviour was exemplary, and I am very proud of their growth and courage.

三年级的惠州之行,无疑是一次激荡人心的探索之旅,同时充满了深厚的学习内涵和教育意义。首先,我要向每一位三年级的学生献上称赞:他们展现出的善良、同理心、勇敢与礼貌,无疑树立了行为的典范,作为老师的我深感骄傲,为他们的成长与勇气喝彩。



During the trip, our students faced different challenges and overcame them. They tried archery, climbed walls, found their way in orienteering, walked on tree-tops, roasted marshmallows on a campfire, and slept in a dormitory. The students were brave and did a great job supporting each other.

在这次旅程中,学生们勇敢地迎接了挑战,并一一克服了困难。他们尝试了射箭技艺,攀登了墙壁,体验了定向越野的刺激,还在山林间行走,感受着与大自然的亲近。篝火旁烤制棉花糖的乐趣,以及在宿舍中共度夜晚的新奇,都让他们乐在其中;而学生之间相互扶持,共同面对困难的场景,更是展现了他们的勇气。

All of Grade 3 students and staff would like to thank Mr. Li, Ms. Yoyo, Mr. Taffy (Pookie), Ms. Luna, Ms. Irene, and Ms. Tiffany from Keystone Activities who did such a wonderful job organizing and taking care of us. We appreciate their efforts very much!

G4-G5

Ms Jasmine Ramkeeson - G4-5 Camp Team Leader

In keeping with our aims of being inquirers and explorers, Grades 4 and 5 participated in an experiential activity-laden campsite and beach activity break in order to enhance their inquiry skills, develop resilience and maximise their learning experience.

秉承着“探究者”与“探索者”的精神,四、五年级的学子们积极投身于营地与海滩的丰富体验式活动之中。这些活动旨在进一步提升他们的探究技能,锻炼应变能力,使学习体验得以最大化地丰富与深化。



Many activities, may have been a first time challenge for many of our students. As they climbed and reached the top, they discovered a level of resilience in themselves that was brought to the surface by perseverence and determination. In our scavenger hunt in Dapeng Fortress, students worked in teams as they searched for the information required to complete the hunt. They explored the old city and learned some wonderful historical facts along the way.

其中,许多活动,对许多学生而言都是前所未有的挑战。然而,当他们克服重重困难,最终攀至顶峰时,那种坚韧不拔的精神与毅力便在他们身上熠熠生辉,令人赞叹。在大鹏古城的寻宝游戏中,学生们以小组为单位,携手寻找完成游戏所需的关键信息。他们在探寻古城奥秘的过程中,不仅收获了宝贵的历史知识,更在团队合作中增进了友谊与默契。

They worked in teams and cooperated on the task of building their tents for the first night on the campsite. There was lots of excitement about sleeping under the stars in tents – which helped to bond friendships through shared experiences, communication and

cooperation. In addition, for many students, the opportunity to develop their seaside water skills through surfing, made us all proud. All students had so much fun as they developed their balancing skills on a gliding surfboard and then put their newly-developed skills to the test as they rode on the waves.

夜幕降临,学生们齐心协力,共同搭建起营地的第一座帐篷。在无垠的星空下,他们兴奋地躺在帐篷中,分享着彼此的经历与感受。这一夜,他们不仅收获了友谊,更在交流与合作中得到了成长与锻炼。此外,冲浪为众多学生提供了发展水上技能的宝贵机会,这无疑令我们倍感骄傲。学生们在冲浪板上练习平衡,感受着海风拂面的惬意,每一次成功驾驭海浪的尝试都令他们欢呼雀跃,尽情享受着冲浪带来的乐趣。



Across the three days, we witnessed students’ confidence levels in their own abilities, soar. The skills they learned and the realisation that they have the ability to master any skills with hard work and perseverence, made us all very proud. Most of all, the smiles, the laughter and the memories, will last a lifetime.

在这短暂的三天里,我们目睹了学生们自信心的显著增长。他们不仅学到了技能,更深刻认识到,只要付出努力与坚持,任何技能都能掌握在手。这份成就与骄傲,深深感染着我们每一个人。而最珍贵的,无疑是他们那灿烂的笑容、欢快的笑声以及这些日子里的美好回忆,它们将永远镌刻在我们心中,成为无法忘却的宝贵财富。





We believe that the children have gained valuable experience in these unforgettable outdoor learning experiences and will surely add more beautiful colours to their future path. Let's look forward to more camp teaching in the future and see the children harvesting in exploration, growing in cooperation, transcending in challenge and writing their own wonderful chapters.

相信在这些难忘的户外学习经历中,孩子们一定收获了宝贵的经验,也必将为他们的未来之路增添更多绚丽的色彩。让我们期待未来更多的营地教学,见证孩子们在探索中收获,在合作中成长,在挑战中超越,书写属于他们自己的精彩篇章。
